I’ve never had a brass nock fly off of my compound bow in 26 years, couldn’t imagine it happening on a trad bow.
Me either. Never once.
Like that you hunt with a bow on your quiver... Thanks for the chuckle... love your channel
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the channel.
Another great video Jason, well said. I shoot a brass nock also and sand it with a file too. Keep them coming. Thanks.
Thanks. Yep amazing the life span you can get out of a glove ot tab when you sand that brass nock.
Using one nocking point and nocking under is what I do for the exact same reason its fast. I recently read hunting the hard way by Howard Hill and he nockrd the exact same way. Besides it makes what ever pack of brass nocks you buy last 2x as long lol.
Did not know that hill shot that way as well. Thanks for the info!
I plan on having a set up just like that someday I'm left handed too. So just found out guns that shoot bolts or "arrows" are going to be allowed during our 30 day long archery season here in in Maine.... on my bow I tie bobber knots for tie on nocks. They look clean and never move.
Bobber knot works great. Sucks about the xguns in your season though!
Index mark on knock is finally explained.
I use a brass Knock stop inside my D-loop incase the D-loop fails in the field.
Thats a grwat idea to stop the d loop on a compound! Gonn tell my buddy Joe about that idea. He worries about his moving. Thanks for the great tip.
I’ve always used brass as well. I just kiss it on the bench grinder after I crimp. I just ordered another 100 string nocks from kustom king today actually. I go through a lot of bows and strings haha! I’ve had the same glove for years and it’s still in great condition. It makes a big difference when you clean the edges off that brass. Good video! Northern Mist baby!
Yep sure does make a difference. I didn't know kustom king sold nocks in 100 packs. That will be my next order. Thanks for the tip! Can never have enough nocks!
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast they come in packs of 5 so I just ordered 20 packs. You can get them by the hundred from the footed shaft or 3 beavers I think. Kustom king is right around the block from me so I like to give them my business when I can!
@@jnewell712 never heard of 3 beavers...lol must be similar to 3 rivers!
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast yup you got it 🤣
@@SamkoTradBow I just get the 12 piece sets from KESHES, my set has 9 in it now having used 4 of them well 6 as 2 for a backup string but I found 2 more nocks that were missing the inner leather lining part that I found inside an old bow sock now used on the backup Dacron B-55 string for my 54 inch single piece OEELINE Airowbow that is 45# @ 28 inches. I currently have a Fast Flight Flemish Twist on the 54 inch single piece OEELINE Airowbow that is 45# @ 28 inches and will get another when that needs replacing but have a lesser fast string I can use in the wait time. An old time trick I learned as a kid is to use a small piece of tin can as the nock then cover completely with fishing line or serving string after the nock has been put on the bow to protect the hand from cuts, often using the lids off the can for a serving nock.
I am using a brass nock or two if the nocking point on the string especially if the serving string is more in the middle of the arrow or the nock is skinny. With the nock or two below the arrow as well I like the nock in that spot have gravity help when setting the arrow on the bow so I am always having to hold the arrow in place as much really just letting the top finger rest on the arrows nock. I like to pinch the brass knock so the sharp points are closed into the knock so they are closed into the knock in kind of a teardrop shape but with the nock so the crimp side is facing away from the bow so both are facing one way at least on the string. Any after hang at end after set up I use a file on if they are sharp especially if bother helped put them on since my brother does not follow the facing away rule if he helps me set up my nock and is the one that puts them on. I like nocks in low light/poor light conditions of too bright light just to help me feel the spot out rather then needing to see more with using serving string/fishing line in using the fishing and then only below to have gravity and finger resting above help as well as able to take more types of arrow nocks then others who use the between two sets method as this limits the types/sizes of knocks a person can use. I do not ever like one above but in an archery class in the 2002 for kids, I used a knock above as well as one sometimes two below as that was how the bows were set up and only in the second class did I find out I am left hand, got a bow between those classes at a grage sale for $20--$25 a Bear Grizzly in rather good condition that was right hand, though I knew the bow was 47#--48# @ 28 inches so as a 12 year old I was not going to be able to use said bow until an adult, now my brother has said bow since he is both eyes dominate so he just shoots the side that is more common and he that my brother pulls 45# at his 26 inch draw for that bow.
Always used a brass nock even after they were falling out of fashion and always will continue to use them.
@@caseysmith544 yep me too
@@SamkoTradBow I have to with the set of brass nocks I have to double them one on top the other due to how skinny they are. They are not that wide but I could go with just one probably and be okay if the serving line is not even or really close to even. I will always have to do this on one brands string a Legend, I get the Propel and this due to the even when strung problem of the serving line from that brand.
Great video
Thx for all the great content
Welcome. And thank you.
I do the same thing (grind the sharp edges off) but I also try to clock them so the “open” end is away from my tab as it rolls off my fingers.
Great idea on clocking it!
Gosh, that’s a beautiful longbow.
Thank you. Northernmistlongbows.com
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast Oh I’m tracking! I’ve been listening to your podcasts for a while. If I ever switch from recurve to longbow, that’ll be the one. Thanks as always for the great vids
Have you had a chance to try the black eagle instinct traditional arrow? They're the only micro diameter shaft traditional arrow i'm aware of but i tried them and they're like darts! 100 grain outsert up front and you get quite a bit of foc. Very cool arrows!
Have not. But I think John fro tactisaddle.com is currently testing them out for himself as we speak!
@@SamkoTradBow awesome, curious to see what folks think of them. So far I'm enjoying them!
@@Chriskelly19067 John said they bare shaft very easy.
Another great video. Can you tell me about your quiver? Looks like a Great Northern but with 6 arrows - did you buy another gripper or did you make your own?
It is a great northern and I male them into 6 arrow quivers. I replace the foam and add a piggy backer that wedges the 6th arrow into a notch in the frame. I jave a few videos on it a few years ago. On my channel search 6 arrow quiver and it will pop up for you or search great northern on my channel.

I remember you talking about feather to nose and how you like leftwing helical. Does it align better to your nose using left wing? Im lefthanded and fight getting the feather to the nose even after i adjusted the distance of fletch on the arrow as i use rightwing offset feathers. 18 yrds and under i seem better feather to nose but longer distance its harder to contact feather to nose for me.
For me left wing and left handed shoot points the back of the feather down under my nose witch I like. I don't use the feather as an anchor point so I don't want it touching my nose. Now when I shoot right wing feathers the feather does hit my nose more as it curls up.
@@SamkoTradBow yes i can visualize that as im lefthanded trad archer. I ancor to my cheek bone also the fletch touches my nose, tells me to let the string slide out of my fingers. Thank you
@@bradlauber9097 that's like a built in clicker! Probably works fantastic.
@@SamkoTradBow yes it does!!! Like a clicker for sure.
What about nock point placement? High, level?
I run mine 1/2 inch above center. But its a personal thing and best to find what height shoots best for you.
Do you have a facebook and or instagram page as well?
Yes. @jasonsamkowiak
If you are leaving this video a thumbs down would you tell why? I'm just curious.
I'd love to know too! But I fear the reality is its just how things are on youtube. I know one of the thumb downs is from the same person that give every one of my videos a thumbs down as soon as i publish it. Must of pissed him off at one time or another.
Great information like always and no way it should receive a single thumbs down.
@@johnlevora thank you.
