Great videos lot o good info. Quick tip. Arrow wraps. I use the arrow wrap to check brace hieght. I have mine set so back of bow is inline with end of wrap. That way every arrow becomes a possible brace hieght checker. Means i can adjust on fly in woods with out haveing to pull out bow square.
Squirrels..? Damn, you must be one hell of a shot! 😄👍 I can hit rabbits out in the open all day long, but that's generally because they're a little thicker in width and don't stand very high off the ground, so the angle works perfectly on virtually any set up.. Squirrels are nimble little things! 😄
I do hold smaller rest bows similar to Howard Hill how he uses a flatbow type longbow in that the finger extends up a bit on the arrow when not shooting, however my Actionbow by Actionrod 8200 has a wider shooting rest then most longbows have but not as wide as a center shot recurve.
Will get a video made on how I do them real soon as I'm getting ready to make a couple new strings. I use half a cat whisker and some yarn and sandwich them together. Then stuff them in the string.
I LOVE your vids. You explain things so extensively. I love your bow too. But how fast is it? How many feet per sec does your longbow this Northern Mist Classic puts out with your heavy hunting arrows? Thanks
Thanks, glad you like the content. I have no idea how fast any of my bows shoot as I never chronograph any of them. I can yell you this though. My arrows blow right thru the deer, bear, hogs and stick in the ground on the other side about 9 out of 10 times. Only time they dont is when I hit the offside shoulder. And that is using one of the widest broadheads out there.
@@SamkoTradBow Thanks for the answer. I shoot recurves, but I love how forgiving you said your Northern Mist longbows are. Always thought recurves are faster, but seems like your longbow is quite powerful. Hmmm. Thanks
@@mrflytyer5819 recurves are typically faster but all that matters is the right arrow set up. heck my daughter shot thru a 550 pound hog with a 27 pound compound and a properly made 450 grain arrow when she was 11 years old. speed doesnt matter at all. its all about arrow set up.
great question! I have not! all the places I hunt an unstrung bow is considered cased except Canada. I have a very old kathy kelly designs longbow soft case that has a cut out to allow it to Velcro around your quiver that I bring on the Canada hunts. But I cant not find that case anymore.
@@SamkoTradBow It's definitely been a challenge to find one. I have a recurve case that my 56" Super Shrew fits in, but the case is really too roomy. I'd love to find something more for a longbow that you can leave the quiver attached. Appreciate all your videos! Good stuff!
I'm assuming you use the regular adjustable GN quiver in lieu of the longbow model? Do you have any comments and/or feedback regarding their Kickback or Kickback Extreme since most of my bows are recurve, although do have a Bear Au Sable. Enjoy your videos
I actually use the longbow model that is non adjustable. Always been happy with it so never found a need to go to the adjustable model. I have not used the kickback model by have a couple buddies that do and they love them. Especially if you have a longer draw and long arrows.
Your nock set point is way higher than what I typically set my nock point which is usually around 1/8th of an inch above center, but I notice that your wood shafts are pretty fat. I shoot 1916s at 35 lbs overdrawing to about 40 lbs with heads 170 to 200. Fly great bare shaft tuned. Lots of good info. Thanks for sharing.
I figured, I’ve been listening to your stuff for a while. You know your stuff. I just could see a new guy adjusting brace for comfort and then being on the next being like guys why is my arrow flight all of a sudden crap lol
WOW, watching this video is motivating me to get a trad bow. I would be worried about losing speed and accuracy going from Mathews compound bows. That's an awesome setup you have there sir!!
I have a few hunt follow along videos. But if you are looking for vids of me shooting animals only one I have is a bear hunt video I posted about 6 years ago. I spent a whole year filming my hunts and even started a video production llc. After 1 year carrying camera gear in the woods i sold it all and stopped. I hated it. But i do occasionally shoot some follow along hunts on my cell phone. But will never carry a camera, arm, mics, etc in the woods ever again.
I have a stringer in the stupid flat seatbelt style since I need it to string up a bow that is too strong for me by a tick. I do want a better stringer that is longer so it can string up both my bows not just my one piece recurve 54 inch 45 pound OLEENE Ariobow and not have pain in stringing up a bow. this is what I am thinking of www.shatterproofarchery.com/product-page/traditional-archery-bow-stinger not just me but getting one for my dad and one for my mom for Christmas to help with there stringing of bows they have or in dads case the 45 pound old all fiberglass Brown Bear from Bear archery will have on his birthday For me I might just modify my stringer. I also on my Fast Flight compliant bow, the recurve use an 18 strand since it was hard to find a string for the bow, I wanted a 16 strand but most of these 16 strand fast flight strings stopped to the 57 inch bows as 53 inch strings. I also use 2 brass knocks not for being lazy but to help in low light at begging and end of day as well as make it easy to tell where the top and bottom via the 2 knocks should be especially if the serving string is longer to where serving area is even or nearly even when a single knock is on the string since I go arrow above the knock. I do not like the arrows on the side of bow so for that I will use a back arrow style as I would like to use a side belt quiver but my size of 5 foot 2 inch prevents the belt side style from working all that well. I use at least for my Recurve and will with future bows all bows besides my fiberglass flatbow where I use a felt Air Hokey pad on the bottom and sides are fur rest bottoms, a Bear fur rest for these bows as the side plate is bigger in size then most hair rests and due to side being actual leather unlike the Wolf fur rests will rarely need replacing. for grip I got some fake vinyl leather looking tape to fix the old vinyl leather on the Longbow, the recurve fits the hand so well a grip is not needed. Sorry for the long post but this is my set up for now.
I stoped using bass nock points because due to my anchor point, they would always cut my lip. I got tied of looking like i had herpes after a day of stumping.
When someone actually has "in the field" experience, this is what it looks like. Thanks for all your help.
Thank you. Very much appreciated
Thank you. I need a basics in archery course I guess. 16:43 lol Love it.
My friend, you define transparency and class!
As cool as the new compound bows are and look there is something really cool about seeing those traditional bows like going back in time 😄 🤘
Compound bows are 😒. Longbows are where it's at
@@Kmecha84 longbows are cool but recurves are sexier.
Would love to see a video of how to setup your string silencers. That's a really neat idea.
Zip tie idea is genius. Nice setup. Northern Mist is top notch. Wish I could shoot a longbow.

I have a traditional recurve bow. I am looking for a quiver. Awesome video.
Lots of great quivers out there. Check out great northern quivers and Selway quivers.

Will do soon.

Awsome setup! i just noticed mister Sam i also do the same finger pull 😊 , my instructor says its mediterranium way ehehhe cheers!

2 pieces. I like having them separate.
