Sweet, back in the "old days" we had to sculpt those individual faces! Much nicer, even faster, this way.

The skull and the faces need to have interlocking shapes designed into their form. If a positive shape is on the skull, you must have a matching negative space in the face pieces so they lock together perfectly each time. Also, remember to allow room for the magnets. You need magnets on the skull and magnets on the faces to hold everything in place. We used wax to hold the eyeballs in place inside face pieces. I realize this answer is complicated, but I hope this helps. The best advice I can give is simply to practice! Try to figure out a system that works for you. If it works, it's right.

I was curious how many faces you got out of a liter of the resin? I've been thinking of doing something similar but the resin and replacement trays aren't cheap of course.

Hi Dennis, I'm sorry, I don't recall. I know resin and trays aren't cheap, but I can tell you that buying the Formlabs and printing everything ourselves saved a SUBSTANTIAL amount of money instead of going through a vendor. I think overall it was about a quarter of the cost of going through a vendor! We printed over 300 faces and props. With our own printer we were free to experiment, make mistakes, and print extra things as they came up, and run on our own schedule. If we had sent everything though a vendor, we would have been far more conservative with what and when we decided to print. Resin and trays aren't cheap, but overall it was DEFINITELY cheaper in the long run! Keep us posted if you decide to do your project!

Hey, how do paint the faces so they can match exactly as the other faces?

Hey, This video explains exactly what I was looking for :-) I do have one question unanswered about the in betweens of the facial expressions. Can I assume that they are done the same way as the key expressions?

You know you could just use j750 3d printer just like laika instead of formlabs 1+
