Ive been a rockhounding, youtube watching, amateur lapidary, rock shop owner now for 20 years plus! Your set-up is amazing!!!! Your content is even better! I have a ton of folks I follow and will be sharing your channel with them. They will welcome you with open arms and hope it helps build your channel even more to enable more awesome videos!
Thank you, and thanks for watching! I’ve enjoyed watching your videos and following your adventures. In fact I just put together a high speed sander that was inspired by one of your videos 😁.
I wish it were as nice as what you use but honestly it’s just a 3/4 HP, 3440 rpm motor that I mounted horizontally on a board attached to pole that is part of a roll around cart. I extended the motor shaft and added a 7” buffing pad holder at the end. When I use it I have to roll it outside due to the dust it kicks up 😩.
@@spwinaustin You might want to try mounting it shaft down so you have to hold the rock up to it like the Richardsons, doing so offers a lot of benefit like a rock not being thrown if it catches.
Wow! What an awesome setup! Thank you for making this video. I love what you are doing on here - hands down the best channel in my "rock lineup"! If I recall, you are a hobbyist at this, as am I - and I thought I was insane with my 15 tumblers! I think this is what makes you stand out so much - not looking at promoting or getting to one million subscribers - just making rocks shiny and taking us all along for the ride. I just wanted to let you know it's appreciated - the time and effort (and skill) you put into all of this does not go unnoticed. Again, thank you, and I am looking forward to what's to come out of the new shop!
Thank you James for your kind words, I appreciate it! I enjoy all aspects of the lapidary arts but tumbling is still my favorite. I have some videos I’ll upload soon that show some amazing polished stones. I know my videos are very basic and stripped down compared to some other RUclipsrs out there but I make videos that I would enjoy watching. I’m glad you like them as well so thanks again!
Wow! Just amazing Scott! It's everything I could ever dream of and so well organized! I'm glad you enjoy doing the videos, because I look forward to them so much. It's so much fun to tune into RUclips and find a new video you've done. I hope you don't ever burn out. One thing that I think is amazing is the fellowship of the rockhounding community. So many great people out there! It was such a treat to see your shop and all the wonderful tools and rocks you have. Thank you so much!

I’m trying to release them every three days now after putting them out every two days for several weeks. If you like agates you’ll love the tumbling videos coming out soon.
Thanks for making this Scott! Next time Cathy gives me lip over the several cabinets full of rocks and my noisy tumbler/vibrators I’ll make her watch this video for perspective…..

Thanks for sharing your shop with us. Great video. I live in Arlington and have just finished my 2nd batch tumbling, I'm in love...lol. It is a work in progress for sure! Thanks again for the tour and the info.
I love your new shop set-up! Thanks for sharing it is always great to get ideas for my own setup. I don't have as much room but I enjoy what I do and am a hobbyist as you. I started out wanting to rekindle a childhood desire to polish rocks and then wrap them with copper wire so I started with a Loretone 3-1.5 tumbler and then got the Thumler A-R2. Now I have a 6" trim saw, a hi-tech 8" slant lap. I have changed out the Thumler barrels to Komestone 2.5 lb barrels since I was tired of the lids coming open. I just got a Raytech vibe 5 but have not tried it yet. I hope to build a tumbler to run the Loretone 4 lb barrel I have. It is just exciting to talk about it all. I hope to rejoin the lapidary club to have access to other equipment but also fo the social aspect of the hobby also. I love your idea of using the money to buy rocks and then video the whole process to share, I look forward to watching that series.
It sounds like you’ve got a good setup going there! It is a very addictive hobby, that’s for sure. Part of the fun is building your own equipment and tumblers are actually pretty easy. You can get most of what you need off of Amazon. A couple of my “Fan Appreciation” videos are already out and the rest should be done soon. The one involving tumbling Zyamara agates is shaping up to be awesome! Be sure and stay tuned for that one. Thanks for watching!
You need a generator or a solar powered system, supplying batteries like a power bank that run a recycling system for all your used water and filters out any sediment and it could power the small tumblers and saws and anything else that you’re running. Thanks for sharing your home and everything great work dude love this content right here all things considered these are just thoughts
Hi Scott. Thank you for all the awesome videos of your lapidary work. They are so very helpful! I was curious to know what brand of wheels you're using on your HP cab machine? I searched through your videos but have been unable to find the info myself. Thanks!
That is brave of you to step in front of the camera. I haven't done that yet. Your shop is way too clean, neat, and organized. I've been collecting and cutting rocks for many years and have buckets strewn all over the two car garage. You don't have nearly enough slabs. I try to keep my hoard around 5,000, but I also have my saws running most every day. Like you I like to try cutting new and different materials, so keep adding all the time. I use the plastic tubs like you do as well. Unlike you, I probably have more than a ton of finished rocks, most of which is wrapped up in buckets. And yes, I get a number of comments about that. There's only so much room in the house to have them all on display. I only have 1 tumbler, but I don't pay enough attention to it, so haven't finished a batch for quite some time. I also have a Highland Park 18" saw, but I've worn out the split nut, so I've ordered a new one and am waiting to get that repaired. I do have a noise question for you. On the 18" saw, how loud does it run when cutting? Mine is loud enough I need to wear head phones. I'm curious if yours is that loud? I found an app for my Iphone that measures decibels. Mine says 81 decibels when cutting, which is loud enough to cause hearing damage. The next toy you need is a high speed sander. That will make a mess in there for sure. Great brave video. Now go make a mess and some noise! Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for watching Stephen, I appreciate it. I was enjoying one of your recent rock polishing videos last night. As far as the saw noise, I haven’t measured it with a SPL meter but I can say without hesitation that it isn’t so loud that I worry about my hearing. I have my feed speed set to the slowest position so that probably helps.
Love your shop setup! Nice to see how well organized everything is. You also have an amazing selection of rough material. Do you have a room where you display all your finished work?
I see you found the new shop video!😆 I don’t have any area currently setup to display the different pieces but I plan to come up with something in the future. Thanks for watching!
Scott, what a setup that you got there! It looks really great! I wrote you before asking advice about the Ray tech Tumblr vibe 10 mine broke down a few weeks ago and I was going to make repairs on it because I have an electronic technician background but was unable to because the unit is sealed to keep it from being shorted out from water. After watching you show what you got new in your shop I want to ask you for advice on it. The new Raytech AV- 18 heavy duty unit! One of the things that you did to yours was put on a different bowl! I haven't purchased one yet but I plan to and I will be getting back to you on what you need to do to convert it. I appreciate all your help and I enjoy watching all your videos.
Hey Bob! So far I absolutely love the AV-18. It is definitely a better build quality than the Thumler’s UV-18. I didn’t care for the bowl that came with it though so I decided to just use the Thumler’s bowl instead, which has always worked well for me. You will really like the ability to adjust the strength of the vibratory action on it!
@@spwinaustin The lady I talked to at Kinsley North told me that it was made for polishing metal. I don't have the bowl like you have so I will have to order one of those separately once I get the machine in. I probably will contact you if I have any problems for some help if that's okay. I'm fairly new at doing this and I also ordered an 8-in all you need Hi-Tech Lab Machine and also the 10-in Trim Saw with Vice- Dual Blade Hi-Tech. Thanks again for all the help!

Hey Peter. Luckily my garage was wired with 3 separate circuits so I was able to divide the load. I should not ever have an issue with tripping a breaker anyway because I normally don’t have too many machines running simultaneously. I sure hope your tumbler lasts longer than mine did!

Ok, lots of questions- what’s the sq footage/how many garage spaces? What do you do with your car/cars?? I’m also in Texas, is your garage air conditioned? I’ve tried to do other crafts in my garage in the summer and it’s just absolutely miserable!! Looks like the raytech is hanging in there! Also, a link to the blower?
Hi, thanks for watching! The lapidary side is just a single car bay with a slight partition, made more functional with the use of big shelves. The other side is a standard 2 car garage. Truck stays outside 😉. It does get warm but since it faces south the heat isn’t too bad. I use fans to keep cool. I thought about adding a mini-split but haven’t done it yet and probably won’t since it isn’t unbearable even when the temperature outside is around 100 degrees. I found the blower on Amazon a while back but I noticed it no longer available. However another viewer commented how they were able to find the exact one so perhaps it’s back on the site? Try searching for a hand held blower. The Raytech Adjusta-Vibe 18 is my new favorite. It is built better than Thumlers 18 in my opinion.
First of all thanks for watching! Now, I’m sure you can get good results with the mini-vibe if you use the right type and size of stones and put in the effort. I think a larger barrel in general will give an even better shine due to the added weight of the rocks that are circulating. Think of it like pushing harder while sanding something. It also will get the job done quicker. Also, I like to tumble larger rocks and oddly shaped ones, which the mini-vibe hopper either cannot handle or will jam. The great think about the mini-vibe is its reliability. I’ve had issues with my motor based vibratory tumblers 😩.

Hi Angela, what can I help you with today? How would I message you? You can find me on Facebook I suppose.
@Scott Wilkins I looked and there are so many I wasn't sure which one was you.
I never thought of that!😆 If you can find a Scott Wilkins with a picture that shows a selfie of a guy in a bicycle helmet and glasses that should be me. I took it many years ago in west Texas while mountain biking.
@@spwinaustin ok I will try that lol thank you
