Thanks for this, I'd almost forgotten all about this rare dish. Hardly anybody seems to make it anymore and I haven't eaten it since I was a child. It's brought back lots of foodie memories, so thank you for sharing and I look forward to making it myself.
This will be one of the dishes my mum will make for my daughters 3rd birthday this coming weekend. My mum is making it due to it being a current pregnancy craving. My family call it Nam Kee Sai though. As in sand

Cooking with Nana Thanks for the reply Nana. This dish looks interesting, I am going to try to make it this weekend. Do you think I can use my dehydrator to dry the cooked rice?
freestuff67 I honestly have never tried using a dehydrator to dry the cooked rice, but it seems like it would work. Please let me know how it turns out.

Is there a taste difference in roasting cooked and uncooked rice? Just wondering if I can just use store bought ground rice to make this?
