    omg thanks for the recipe euy! my bf and i were craving this sooo bad. i called my mom but when she explained it in lao i couldn't picture it in my head. plus i dont remember any names of vegetables in laos lol. its always good to see a visual!!

    The turkey berries (mak kaeng) add a touch of bitter taste, but you only taste it when you bite into it. Some people don't like it. If you can't find it, you can leave it out and just increase the amount of other veggies.

    Tommy Li, I usually put the fungus in my 'aw gai' too, but I didn't have any when I made it. It still tastes good without it.

    Nana, what can you replace the turkey berries with? Is there any comparable substitute? Are they only sold at Laotian markets?

    Jet, I have never tried using firm tofu for this dish. To be honest, I don't have a lot of experience cooking with tofu as substitute for meat. I think it will turn out fine, but I really have no idea. Please let me know how it turns out if you do try it with tofu.

    What if you don’t have the lemon basil? Can you use reg basil ?

      Julia A2LA Regular sweet basil doesn't work well for me. It's very different taste from lemon basil. You can use fill instead if you don't have lemon basil.

    Search for my "mok pa" video and use chicken instead of fish. You can use any meat you want.

      You can use dill if you can't find lemon basil. There is an annotation stating that, but it may have been blocked by an ad.

      Mandy Vilaysack the turkey berries won’t be in season until later in the year. You can leave them out if you can’t find them.

      Christy Phomata sticky rice will be better, but if you don’t have sticky rice, you can use jasmine rice also.

    Sis I am curious since its a chicken is a hen don't you have to wait until the chicken is soft than we can add all the veg, and how long do I have to wait until the chicken (HEN) is soft until I can put all the veg and seasoning?

      yes, cook the hen until it gets soft. In the video I cooked it for about 15 minutes. You can pinch the hen to see if it's soft enough for you.
