Excellent choices. I am currently looking to spoil myself up to £10k and all of those cars are on my list. You did miss the Citroen C6, Alfa Romeo Brera and the Lexus GS450h though. I think it will be the XK for me….
All great choices! The C6 is a proper Citroen in its coolness and weirdness. The Alfa is gorgeous and you don't really see them. And the Lexus has been on my list in the past too :)
I'm window shopping almost full time as I plan changing next spring! Like you, I like quirky. Looking at CLS Shooting Break - but that could change once I have had another cuppa!!
I'm currently looking at a Volvo C70 facelift (2010-13) because I want a convertible but then at the same time I'm looking at a Saab 9-3X because I want to put a Tentbox on it and go camping ahaha. Don't really know what to do because they're both great!
This is very weird you should bring up the Saab 9-3X - very rare car... and it's the next review video that will appear on the channel! :) Agree that both cars are great. You'd be surprised what you can get some tent boxes on the top of - I saw one today literally on top of a Smart car, though I guess a C70 maybe not given its roof haha
@@JJonCars Ah I’m looking forward to that! In the Smart car Facebook group there are a couple of people who have 1 person roof tents on their smarts but they say it can be scary when it’s very windy ahaha as mine is already bad enough in strong cross winds! I was also looking at the Volvo V50 but for around £6000 I’d rather have the Saab as they feel more modern and quirky to me.
Really enjoyed this vid JJ and it's good to hear somebody else has the same malady as I do. My next car, which I referred to on a previous post, might fit into your criteria but is going to be well outside the upper price limit you set. That's the only clue I'm going to give you, except to say that I checked your back catalogue and you haven't reviewed one of these on the channel. Cheers.
I do the same sort of window shopping for cars as don't have the space to get any more yet. I know you are a big Saab fan and I am too with my trusty 93 that I've owned for 14 years. Can't fault them. Jags are on my list too and also like the XKs for that sort of money you can't go wrong.
I can see you in a Citroën DS23 Pallas. Absolutely brilliant car with a suspension that is out of this world. Engine power wouldn't bowl you over, but this car is all about comfort. Unfortunately, these cars cost a fortune now, if they are in decent condition. You might like a Citroën C5 III (X7) as well. Very sleek looking and super reliable. The suspension is much more clever than that of the DS23, but it is also a lot stiffer. Still a very comfortable and very safe hydropneumatic suspension, but the car's ride is nowhere near the "magic carpet" ride of the DS23. While we are at it, have a look at the Citroën CX as well. As quirky as it gets with Citroën. Definitely a unique look, inside and outside, and a suspension that is closer to the DS23 than the C5 III. You'd probably would have to be cautious about rust with the older Citroëns but should have zero issues with a C5 III.
You make a very good point about Citroens in general - they can be so very quirky and different. I don't have too much experience with them, though I did get a lift to a car show last year in a BX, and I was super impressed with the smoothness of the ride in that thing. The hydropneumatic suspension is awesome. If I do another one of these videos I'll definitely be putting a Citroen in the mix :) The DS is a beautiful thing and must have seemed like a spaceship when it came out. And I remember CX's around when I was a kid.
I normally use Done deal in Ireland, cars are much more expensive here and tax is also more expensive so owning a second car would have to be a classic really if I was looking for something affordable. If I could buy something as an extra car, I'd probably buy an older Suzuki Jimny or a Fiat 595 maybe 🤔. I spend half the time looking at bikes as do looking at cars 😂. But I'd love a classic mini with a motorbike engine something like a V twin V Strom 1000 engine would be ideal 😂
I really should say that this video is not sponsored by AutoTrader 😂 I forget that about Ireland, it reminds me a bit of how the Netherlands do it and a lot of other European countries. I think we have it quite good in the UK for car ownership costs and prices even if we do love to moan about it. Jimny is a good shout, for messing about down the lanes, and the 595 for a fun B road car. Mini with a motorbike engine - your two passions rolled into one, perfect 😄
@@JJonCars I have checked Auto trader when I dream of importing really clean example bikes into the country, but it's a lot hassle what with import taxes. We definitely pay a it more, but on the up side motorcycle ownership is actually super cheap here 88 euro for the year for your tax regardless of engine size and we have no MOT/NCT which is good and bad, but i think really it's good for something like a motorbike that you'll only use at the weekends you don't want to have to be doing the MOT/NCT on it. Yeah, I've always dreamed of owning a classic mini even though I'd struggle to fit in one 🤣. I'd be half tempted to move to the UK simply for the benefits in car ownership, but I guess we can't have it all I'd miss this place too 🙂

Cool video!!! I'd love to see one for quirky cars under 5k, even though some of these picks also met that criteria. I also think the YS3G Saab 9-5 is kind of quirky, in a good way. There's a Saab enthusiast living in my village and they seem to have two YS3Gs in their household. I wonder how servicing one works nowadays...
Cheers Janne :) I may well do another vid with the sub 5k category. I know that at least in the UK there are specialists still that will service your Saab. So maybe there are some in Norway, and presumably a few in Sweden at least!
I've always been a big Lexus fan but the gs450h hybrids are well within budget and give decent mpg around town. My brother had a couple they drive really nice
The SAAB at least here in Sweden reached its lowest price some years ago. Now it’s getting difficult to find them under €10k. While the older 9-5 can be had for a fraction of the cost. Another rare car at least here would be the Volvo C70. We love Volvo here and V70 and S80 are everywhere but C70 are not common. But they seem to be increasing as well although all cars are increasing because of inflation.
That is interesting as SAABs can still be had relatively cheaply here in the UK. Is it the first gen soft top C70 you like, or the one with the metal roof?
We're definitely allowed to not be sensible 😁 370Z is a good call, and if they were just slightly out of budget, there's always the 350 :) I looked at 350Zs for years and years, test drove one... but never actually pulled the trigger.
