. . . keep up the good work . . . you will become addicted to driving your A2 . . . i have now decided to find the £'s and get my diesel A2 back on the road !
Nice work there !, i bought an 05 A2 1.4 tdi in same colour as yours with 117 k miles in mid June 2024, it’s now nearly at 119k and so far i’ve replaced oil level sensor & front discs & pads along with new brake light bulbs which cured the flashing amber ignition coil lamp in the cluster .. but i still have an ABS/ ESP lamp on which points to the n/s/f abs sensor .. so i have that to replace & will see if that extinguishes the warning lamp 🤞🤞 Despite all that she’s a proper hoot to drive, extremely light & i get around 56 mpg, extremely compact & agile, goes extremely well, she doesn’t hang around at all being a torquey turbo diesel coupled to a paperweight Aluminium body / space frame 💪😎👌
I just fixed a 1,6 FSI with misfires. Had to replace an injector, which is hard to find and a real pain to reach for it sits in the back of the engine under the intake. But removing the whole intake train gives you the opportunity to clean everything from throttle body to EGR- valve and flap- control. I'm happy I'm through.
When I get a misfire fault I'll normally switch the coils around, then if the fault moves to a different cylinder I know that's the problem. Great update though, thanks
So far i've done the front shocks and rear wheel bearings on mine. Also added some stop leak to the power steering fluid and it seems to have fixed that.
@@JJonCars I noticed in their video the fluid appeared red in colour. Standard fluid is green so its either been topped up with the wrong stuff or someone has tried some stop leak. The lucas stuff is red and I topped up the 10% recommended. My leak was only on the passenger side
Good to see you are fixing the issues and enjoying your A2. I hope your chair survived and no scratches on the A2! I try to avoid starting mine just to move it away from the garage door so I push it but always on the A pillar with the door open. That way I can jump inside hopefully smartish before it disappears down the drive and into the street!
I'd not realised the slope that came out of the garage haha. Chair and A2 are in good shape, though that wing is actually quite scratched up anyway due to I think some very clumsy bonnet removal/replacement throughout its life 😄 Cheers 👍
JJ - love your channel! Been one of my favorites for a few years now, and I'm really enjoying your journey with this A2. We never got these in the states, but I'd definitely have one if I could. Not a bad little runabout to have, and looks very cool in a quirky way. Keep up the great work!
Ah, thank you! And thanks for commenting and saying so. It is a shame it didn't appear in the US, but given how this lightweight eco car didn't even do well in Europe I imagine Audi made the right financial decision in selling it only over here 😄
I have a 2005 A2 Tdi SE, I've had it for 11 years now and it's my daily driver while my other two are for weekends. While the bodywork is mainly Aluminium (the bulkhead is steel), the components are from the VW Polo and some parts can be hard to get hold of. I have had to get front wishbones and track control arms replaced and now the near side shock absorber is leaking - the car is 19 years old after all. Hopefully replacing consumables is all that is required as I love the car. Tyres can be another issue, as only a few manufacturers support the size I need because the only modern car that uses the same size is the Nissan Micra. It's a great car and great to see that you are saving one from the scrap heap. My fear is always of someone driving into the back of mine as it would be an instant write off.
@JJonCars no, they are 15" Audi alloys unlike the 16" typically fitted to Sport models. The tyre size is 185/60 x 15 and I originally changed the variety of no name brand tyres to Continental tyres but they are now £150 each! So I have changed to Dunlop"s on the front, still a chunky £110.
Quick tip, for checking coilpacks, so you don't change a working part: Change the coilpack you suspect of being bad, over to one of the other cylinders. Delete all codes, and drive the car again. If next time the fault comes up, as another cylinder, you are 100% sure that the coil is bad. If one is bad, and the other ones, are the same batch/year, change all four, for the best result.
I've now got a TDI 90 with 246k on the clock. Still runs like a charm. Thinking of selling the petrol one as it had a few issues. Been loving the extra hp and turbo tho lol
Thanks for great content - crazy to think that A2s are now becoming a cult - modern classics. i was in the grounds of a Stately Home - Heron Haus - in Germanys summer of 2002 and saw a cluster of A2s getting photographed for a catalogue or brochure
Small jobs, especially just investing time reconnecting and cleaning offer great satisfaction when they work! Glad the G40 worked out and it does appear to last. Here’s to more cheap fixes and happy motoring!
The second "e" in "Pflege" is not silent. :) It is not the same sound as the first "e", though. There are online English German dictionaries which include pronunciation audio clips, if you are interested. :)
I've had mine for 3 years.1.4 petrol SE 170k.no oil leaks, everything works.ok,I've replaced every wheel bearing and basically all the steel bits.I don't think our 6 year old Fiesta will last as long.
Many moons ago, I used to go over the top when cleaning my car, which included removing the grill and light clusters and other bits - and cleaning up and waxing the usually hidden bits of bodywork. That was a bit anal TBH, considering that cars I owned at the time were only worth a few hundred quid! Nowadays, I'm older and not so physically able, the more expensive car I have does not get any pampering!
I think you need to drive it more.mine was neglected and the cat was blocked so give it a good blast.its a 21 year old car?I've had a Morris Morina,Fiat X1/9.Lancias so these cars seem immortal
Very satisfying video. I always enjoy sorting all the niggles left by a previous owner, kinda like training the car to behave and work like it should. Makes it your own.
Ah, I bought it years ago, I don't think the exact one is for sale any more. If you do a search for bluetooth OBD scanner on amazon you should be able to find one similar
@@JJonCars I’ve bought a few however not compatible with A2 sadly. If you get a chance you can go back on your orders and click on it to see if it’s available
I don’t know if it’s just me but, when you do little jobs to make bring cars back to life abit, it’s very satisfying
Yeah 100% agree Sam, have really enjoyed the process!

Have you seen the recent Car Throttle video? Was it a similar steering rack leak to what they have?

Have you got unusual wheels on the car, is that why the tyre size is hard to find? Glad to do my bit to keep another A2 going :) Cheers!

Nice one. those diesels do seem to just run and run if looked after. And as I say, I think the TDI is best suited to this car given its economy focus

A2 Brute.
Really sorry JJ...can't resist a ridiculous dad joke 😂

How many cans of Coke Zero did you get though 😂
Haha... honest truth, I think I only drank half a can 😂

Can't help with a 1.4, think that's starter motor size on my clk 500 😉
Haha yep probably 😆
Way better than CarThrottles junker
