I had an 04 Laguna estate 1.9dci, that would get 70s on the motorway doing the limit. It was a 75 litre tank and could do about 1200 miles on a tank motorway driving.
The 2000s diesels where peak efficiency without all the fancy electronics and batteries. I have an ioniq 2021, and it will do mid 60 early 70s around town (admittedly the Laguna would get 40s around town, which is still decent for the time). My hybrid ioniq is the opposite, 70s around town but 45ish on the motorway.
So it's all about having the right tool for the job. I also had a 16 VXR and 19 Leon cupra estate in between the both averages sub 25mpg over their lifetime with me 15-20k each.
The only issue (economy wise) with the ionic is the size of the tank, f'n 45litres. I detest filling up, I drive every car down brim to vapour, I hate filling up so much.
One of the first things I do (within the first month, is see how many miles it will do after zero. The old diesels would get you 60 miles, new cars your lucky to get 20. My current car I start to panic at around 15 over.

1.71.9 for petrol, which would be better the "cheap" E10 fuel is taking the piss. Drive 5 mins off any exit and you'll find a supermarket selling E10 for 130s maybe 140s. That's is a massive difference if you're filling the tank.40 x 40pence is 16 quid a tank.
I'd rather drive a more rounded saloon and take ten mins extra and save 16 quid than these things and eco them.

Seems like too short a test for any MPG accuracy, due to different pumps clicking off at different times. Much longer distance and filling up at exactly the same pump would be more accurate.
Both of these are fantastic cars from an engineering point of view. Too bad that the design principles in them weren't adopted more widely. But I suppose it's the triumph of marketing and finance depts over engineering.
Lightness through small size and material choice, aerodynamics, fuel efficient drive-trains, accepting modest performance.

  • @w0nderb0b

I'd assume Honda wanted to have the high efficiency tires designed with the car, but they may have chosen a quiet tire that sacrificed fuel economy?

I did the same maths and also got 59mpg (so I rounded up to 60mpg) at the start.
So unless we are both stupid(very posible) being told its 74mpg does not bode well for a mpg challenge. 😅

Have you already done a video where you take it to a mechanic and pretend to be surprised that the car you've bought broken and old is broken and old? Don't forget to pretend to be surprised about the prices of parts.

Car throttle will eventually close its doors soon I reckon they will have to face facts that 20k views or 200k views still isn’t enough for them when before they could get a million views

battery at 65%, and the engine idled for an hour... 85kw battery for an hour is similar to "250kw/hr at the power plant" ... bill of EV battery recharge cost adds up to an equivalent of 18.5US gallons to that of 43 miles, your getting 2.32mpg/us or *2.02mpg/uk with idling the engine*. the worst fuel economy their is and doesn't know past the free charger station again. 1.93mpg/us w/electrical grid costs at point of actual industry cost not a lite use toaster, so that was a $63 drive of $1.60/mile. bozo thinks their saving money just because they don't pay the electrical bill, evicted from residence "no reason" drives to another place... plugs it in and... every month the land lord gets that bill of $70/day that they charged the battery, eviction... again and again. till the room rent bill goes up by 2k/month because that bill has taxable income added to it.
