Billionaires usually own corporations that don't pay their full-time workers well enough to keep them off Taxpayer assistance. Billionaire owners of corporations don't pay Federal Taxes and often, neither do their corporations.

He has mentioned IVF, but I suspect if you asked my husband about our fertility journey, he would say we had tried IVF, when in fact we only had the same intrauterine procedure that the Walz's had (and we gave up because IVF was the next step and I didn't want any more technology.) It was his wife who brought up the IU insemination, but I suspect she knows the terminology than most men.
Frankly, it doesn't matter to me. I've been through the heartbreak of fertility treatments (which never worked, so I'm now a "childless cat lady" instead.) He obviously knows the pain people who have gone through fertility treatments go through. He's going to make sure that no one interferes in people's choices for building a family. And that's the important part!

Re:Branko comment on embellishing resume - um... 24 years of training with weapons of war. You might be surprised to learn that soldiers are actually given weapons before they show up in the battlefield, and they are taught how to use them before they ever see a combatant. There is recognition that there is a difference between wartime and civilian weapons. Automatic machine guns are strictly regulated because you don't need 600 rounds per second to take that deer down, they are wartime weapons. I don't agree with a lot of the assault weapon craziness because they don't really answer the problems with high capacity semi-automatics and frankly a bolt action rifle in the hands of a skilled operator is more dangerous than an idiot with an AR. The background checks system needs to be updated and made more robust to deal with the kooks before it is an issue.

      What's the alternative, though?
I write, not to be combative, or to present myself as "Debbie Downer," but I invite us to think this topic through to its logical conclusion, setting emotion on the shelf...
For me, I cannot - and my family cannot - afford to be a "single-issue" voter this time. We, The People, _do not have that luxury._ I would never tell anyone how to vote, but, for me, this is not the year to "Ralph Nader" up the proceedings, then cry about it later.
Let's face it: Whether Harris or Trump end up in the White House, the Military-Industrial Complex wins. Even if Jill Stein somehow won the Electoral College in November and got in (and even she knows she won't), she would need a Congress that also weren't warmongers / war criminals. That is not going to happen, at least in her lifetime. A President Stein / West / De La Cruz would have every veto against an Israel / Ukraine military aid bill or defense budget overridden, in droves, by the Democrats and Republicans in the Congress. (It is the Congress who has the "power of the purse," not the President. It is a Constitutionally-mandated check on the Executive Branch.) And, you guessed it! The Military-Industrial Complex wins AGAIN. So, what's the point? Seriously. What is... the _point_ of all of this?
While I certainly understand and empathize with the emotion involved, especially as many of these protesters have family being killed _by the minute_ by this oppressive pariah state, I am not willing to sacrifice (a) the bodily autonomy of women and girls in America; (b) the ability to combat, however incrementally, the climate crisis; (c) voting rights / access reform for BIPOC and the poor; (d) LGBTQIA+ rights / freedoms; (e) the prospect of a stable, growing, "bottom-up, middle-out" economy; (f) the United States Department of Education; (g) substantive police reform; (h) "common-sense" gun legislation; or (i) the democratic Republic as we have known it in the United States, for this single issue. TOO MUCH is at stake. Trump getting back in the White House, and implementing even ONE of the provisions outlined in the terrorist organization called The Heritage Foundation's *_lunatic_* manifesto labeled "Project 2025," is not worth the gamble.
What I opine, based on 40+ years of observing politics in America, is that progressives need to play "the long game," as conservatives mastered long ago. Ideally, if the people of the United States would stand up, organize, and elect people with either Green Party - or better yet, NO political party affiliation, starting at the local level (county auditors, commissioners, ombudsmen, city council, etc.), then work their way up to mayors, judges, state Congress-people, etc., people who reflect and represent *_our_* values, and not the corrupt interests of lobbyists, then we would have true democracy in this country, from the bottom-up and the middle-out. *We can do it...* but not overnight.
In the near term, for this election year, progressives, I'm afraid, are stuck with the choice: "Either the Dems or Donald."

Outwardly, that's exactly what she's done. Privately, who knows?
To have been a "fly on the wall," in the Situation Room or the Oval Office... One would hope that Vice President Harris, behind closed doors, pleaded with Biden, Blinken, Austin to *stop this madness* and use the _considerable_ leverage the U.S. has to get the Knesset and the Prime Minister (read: "king") to relent. That'd be great if we, the electorate, could know if she had done this... but we don't.
Because we do not know, and politics (read: "cowardice") prevents Ms. Harris from saying that she went against her own administration on this - if she, in fact, had - then, we are at a disadvantage. An informed electorate is key to a functioning democracy.
If only we had something... a "Fourth Estate," if you will, who could investigate such matters, using a practice the ancients once called "journalism..." If only.

*1 of 2. This is how you always need to vote:*
We must fully criticize and _always vote_ *against* (& less authoritarian than) both the Republican *and* Democratic Parties- including *Kamala Harris, Tim Walz,* AOC, all of the squad, Bernie Sanders, Edward Markey, Mark Pocan, the justice democrats, & all other democrats. Vote in every single election- at all levels. And also _endorse or anti-endorse,_ in all elections you can, for outside your voting jurisdiction.
For _all_ public positions. And this same strategy applies against the one or more party-monopolies in _all_ countries worldwide.
Real progressives will never be Democratic Members or Democratic loyalists. Never vote for _any_ Republican member or loyalist either.
If no candidates for a position fit that bill:
    -Where _write-ins_ are permissible, always write-in an anti-authoritarian person;
-Where write-ins aren’t permissible, always vote uncommitted or leave the ballot blank.
This will continuously reduce the power of _all_ authoritarian parties in the party monopolies: Until our task is complete.
Repeat strategy for all new authoritarian parties that emerge.

I see someone woke up on the cranky side of the bed. I salute your principled approach, we should vote our beliefs, even if unpopular. The only way a third party is going to rise is from the local level first - Mayors, State reps and such. You need to get people on board with your thinking and build consensus so the non authoritarians can take positions of influence. So instead of dropping page long rants, perhaps try a Democrat slogan on for size - GO DO SOMETHING!. HARRIS/WALZ 2024!!!

It's ridiculous that the wealthiest nation in the world is bragging about free school lunches. Poverty struck villages in Asia and Africa have that.
