Here's everything you need to know about livestreaming with the new GoPro Hero 7 Black. From setting it up in Facebook to configuring it with RUclips and other RTMP sources. Plus, actual tests while cycling using cellular service around the city of Amsterdam and the nearby woods. I show how well it works, and where it doesn't work so well.
Note that only the GoPro Hero 7 Black work with livestreaming, and not the Hero 7 Silver/White, or any previous GoPro units. You can technically stream some older GoPro's using Periscope, but that doesn't seem to be the path forward unfortunately.

Ha this was funny, I'm looking at the GoPro Hero7, I'm an American living in Amsterdam, and I want to use it for streaming my cycling. Never had there been such a relevant video for me.

I wish I found this 5 hours ago. Because 5 hours later I'm still sitting here trying to get this stupid feature working, which is supposed to easily stream straight to RUclips without setting up rtmp. Then, at 7:50 in this video, I see where I'm supposed to put that rtmp server name and boom, works in 3 seconds. Why can neither GoPro nor RUclips tell me this!?!??!

Hi, how can you use live stream from Facebook outside if you don't have WIFI? did you use 4G connection for live stream?

if you set it up the night prior and close the app will you need the numbers and code from youtube again the next day to set it up or will it save that info ?

Hi, my friend said GPS gets overlayed onto video or can be recorded separate. All i wanted was GPS overlay on there already. It seems the downloaded software that you have to render on also isnt picking it up. I recorded some with GPS and and some without.
Wham I try to set up live stream to fb it telling me it got disconnected.

You can use the GoPro mic adapter, but it's $60 and is gigantic (it's the only one that works, no 3rd party ones work with it). Then you'd plug in a mic from there.

Removed it and installed it again, the menu appeared, All data entered as shown here, but when i click the "Activate Broadcast" button, on gopro 7 displey i didnt see preview and gopro will "hang"...

Same thing here, I'm in Switzerland now and watching this video as the GoPro is charging. However, the sound is not good at all. I knew that part and will use my ZOOM recorder with a mic and the dead cat. But yeah thanks for the video, it helps a lot and saves time.
Can u lock ur phone once the rtmp stream to RUclips is up and you put it in your pocket?
Great instruction .. But .. I could not start the stream .. Neither using the Yotube function nor RTMP. I set the url and key, the camera shows that the stream is in progress, the Gopro App shows that the broadcast is in progress, and on RUclips a static picture by default. Help please.

I have to mount my hero7 upside down but when I'm streaming if course the video is upside down and useless. Is there a way to fix this? I've tried all 3 settings on the landscape lock setting. It doesn't seem to do anything for streaming.
Honestly I think the drop in audio quality impacts the watchability far more that 720p does for me. When you switched from streamed footage to recorded footage the increase in audio quality was massive. I'd like to see GoPro do something about that before they worry about adding 1080p. That's my opinion at least.

So the gopro creates the rmtp whatever then u just paste your stream key after the link and it knows to go live to the app where u got the stream key from?

I am having trouble with the WiFi process. I get everything up the gopro connect to FB. It then returns to the gopro camera setup start page. I am using an iPhone. So gopro app signs on to camera wifi, then when it needs to go to FB there is no wifi or hotspot available. Can you stream from the ap to FB via the cell connection. Looks simple just not working for me.
mine says remove hero7 black from the camera screen. connect to your camera again, enabling bluetooth. then setup your live stream again, no matter if i select facebook youtube or other. thats after i press setup

The gopro live keep disconnecting my phone internet, everytime I try streaming, I have no connection, even my hotspot stops, the app stops my internet at ALL.

Mine did that, you may have to contact GP; they will have you install the update, even if the camera is updated; however mine never worked, just like yours; even the GPS stickers didn’t work when I had GPS on...they are warranting my GP 7, I should be getting it next week
Do you have to keep your phone screen on gopro app or can you change to something else like GPS?

You can, though honestly it won't fix much - since it's the stream quality and not the GoPro mic that impacted it in this case.
Why there is no option in the application for live which your showing it to us? it’s only photo option and video option in the application
What do you do when you don't have a wi-fi around?
Meaning GoPro needs my wifi's camera for the phone-camera connection.
Also GoPro needs a wi-fi in order to connect to the internet for the livestream.
If I turn on my mobile hotspot, my Wi-Fi turns off automatically losing the connection to the camera.
I can either have GoPro connected to my camera, or the hotspot on, but no camera connection.
Any idea how to solve this?

Question....I’m not sure what you were talking about hotspot. If I do hotspot on my phone is that the hotspot you’re talking about or an actual separate hotspot device. I’m wanting to go live while I snorkel. If my hotspot is in the boat it should work?

How much data from your phone would it rougly cost to stream 10' at 720p?

What encoder did you use for youtube? It doesn't look like you had to connect via HDMI to anything, so I am curious. I need to live stream for some engineering tests we have coming up very soon and I cannot for the life of me figure out what RTMP encoder to use. Studio 5 no longer supports gopro after V5. I tried OBS but cannot get it to connect, and support told me I needed a HDMI, which would not work for me. I need to stream wirelessly, which it does look like you accomplished!

I'm not sure where to turn for answers. Been working on this all day. The goal is to ride my bike while streaming on twitch with a Gopro Hero 3. My phone is an Android Galaxy S6. Just testing it at home right now. Every time I connect to the Camera I lose my internet completely because I leave that network to connect to the Gopro. How to get past this? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for this tutorial. I think I have everything except one thing . . how can you be out on a bicycle riding along and be on a wifi network? I have cellular data, is that what you are referring to? Cuz any wifi network that you connect to on a bicycle, you will soon be riding away from.

For the most part, live streaming audio quality is pretty bad. The recorded audio as you heard is much better.
Where do you store your selfie stick when not using it? Is it a GoPro Shorty?
It seems like it shouldn’t be that difficult for GoPro to update a quick link for RUclips and other social media platforms, so hopefully we do see that soon, also anyone can chime in, but how could they update or upgrade for livestream to be at 1080p, like what prevented them from being able to launch it with 1080? And does anyone think it could be done through a firmware update? Or is this something that will be out of the question for the Black 7 and have to wait for a Black 8?
Yup, I agree in terms of adding the quick link to RUclips and others. Other cameras do it, and the coding is relatively trivial since they've already got RTMP onboard. 1080p is interesting, and something I brought up with the engineering team when I met with them. They didn't say it wasn't possible, but they didn't say it was either. It was kinda a meh shrug sorta answer (in person). I suspect technically it's totally capable, but wonder if there's other factors at play here that are more business-focused (such as their super-high end broadcast suite of tools for GoPro to TV broadcasts).

Thanks for your information. I have tried to live stream on RUclips by using Go Pro 8. After click Go live option, camera shows live and go Pro app shows live. I had used Rtmp URL followed key from my youtube encoder. While iam going to my youtube channel its offline. I can't see my live streaming video. Could you please help me?

Hey man, great video. Just curious, is it possible to stream with the Gopro though Streamlabs? For example, I still want to stream with the Gopro, but add alert boxes and chat boxes through twitch. I'd also want to cycle through the camera and another app that show's my current speed, maps, etc. using the Streamlabs screen capture.
