I hadn’t heard of him either, but how ‘bout this? “Jimmy Wayne is a former foster kid turned award-winning country recording-artist whose songs and story highlight his mission to raise awareness for children in foster care...In 2010, Jimmy walked halfway across America (from Nashville to Phoenix) to raise awareness for kids aging out of the foster care system.”
That’s just a LITTLE more than talking the talk More than just walking the walk. Just became a fan. My reaction- the harmony between D & Smokey was a lot better. But the background harmonies? Deluxe.
Wow. We adopted our son from foster care when he was 11. We are beyond proud of the man he is today. I had no idea that there was a country artist with that “pedigree”!
Daryl sold that house a couple of years ago. Today it was announced Daryl's House, the club, is closing. Of course he bought the most expensive house in Charleston, NC not long ago. It was for sale for 11 years because of the price and the history of the place. For years lots of people have taken their pictures in front of the gate into the property.
I know Jimmy Wayne. His backstory is unbelievable. He spent most of his childhood in foster homes or living on the street. He worked for a time as a prison guard. A couple of years ago he walked across the country to draw attention to foster kids. He wrote a book about it called Walk To Beautiful. I've sat several times and heard him tell his story for 30-40 minutes at a time. He and his sister would have their names on Salvation Army Angel Trees at Christmas time. Truly inspiring. You should definitely hear his songs "I Love You This Much," "Do You Believe Me Now," "Stay Gone" and "Kerosene KId." Beyond powerful. Amazing guy.
Jimmy!!! Thank you!!! Jamel introduce me to your music with this song, and I am telling you you got a ton of new fans from this video. I am so grateful that I found you! 🔥🔥🔥🧡🧡🧡
Jimmy Wayne Jimmy... I’m not sure he had a choice, your voice is overpowering in a good way. It seems he could see it and let you take the lead, we all LOVE Daryl! But your voice is freaking sick!
Jimmy was a prison guard and a part-time wedding singer before he decided to move to Nashville and pursue his dream. Lucky for us that dream was realized.
If I'm not mistaken, Hall and Oats had a lot of folks wanting to remake "sarah smile", but they would not agree to it.... that is until Jimmy came along. With that being said, they actually played and sang backgrounds for Jimmy on his remake. I would say that speaks volumes of Jimmy and of Hall and Oats for the backgrounds. One of my most fav. covers of all times!!
In 1976 I found myself pregnant and the father backed out of getting married 1 week before the wedding we had planned before we ever slept together. I was a virgin at that time. Needless to say I kept my baby girl and let him go on his way. This song was popular at the time. I named her Sarah (as in the Bible spelling) and it was "You an me together, Sarah. That beautiful Sarah died unexpectedly in 2012 from an accidental overdose in 2012 leaving a husband and a 2 y/o little girl behind. This song has always had so much meaning for me!!!
Jimmy Wayne I didn’t see you responded! You’re an amazing vocalist, and this performance definitely made me a fan. I honestly consider this one of the best collaborations on Daryl’s House, and one of the best covers ever. You rock!
Look him up. Jimmy is crazy talented (as you just heard). Singer, songwriter, NY Times bestselling author, & a fierce child advocate who uses his many talents to raise awareness for kids in & aging out of foster care because he's been where they are.
My man is not invited to the cookout. He is the cookout. He has seasoned the chicken. He has barbecued the ribs. He made the mac and cheese and collard greens. You are invited.
Yeah when he first started singing I was all confused for a second. Damn that was good though. I've watched a lot of the "Live From Daryl's House" videos but I've not come across any with Jimmy Wayne before.
Jamel thank you for show casing Jimmy Wayne. I had not heard his voice until now, but I read his book Walk to Beautiful. Everyone should read it. It is honest and open about life as a underprivileged child of a drug addict in the South. It takes place not far from where I live and is all too familiar. Jimmy Wayne is an "old soul" and caring human. Thank you for sharing him. You are a special human too. My husband and I love your channel. Keep on keeping on. Love and Peace.
Jamel, you must know that when you stop and look in stunned silence directly into camera because what you just heard is too beautiful to be understood by us mortals, that all of us are out here looking right back at you shaking our heads up and down and saying Yes, I heard that too... and I don't know what to do right now. I can't move.

Jimmy Wayne is from Kings Mountain, NC., Cleveland County, NC. I worked at Dept. of Social Services and he and some of his band came to our big room and did a small "thank you concert". His childhood and his sister's childhood were troubled. Biological father abandons him, his mother was troubled, served time in jail. He and his sister were in the "foster care system" and YES, he was thankful for DSS's help. He sings beautifully doesn't he. So, Jamel_AKA, to answer your question, this is a true story, a good story about problem childhood and someone who went above his problems, made something of himself and appreciated the system that helped him. Just Be A Good Human, yes, that a start!
Can you imagine singing Sara Smile w/ Daryl Hall? I have to say Jimmy Wayne did it ultimate justice! I went straight to find out about Jimmy Wayne & his personal story broke my heart! 💔 Thank God he went down the right path! Im so proud he 'made' it! Much deserved! Ear candy! That was fine! I love Daryl’s House. Everybody in the room was enjoying the music. There truly is something indescribable about playing/jammin’ together. Magical things happen. Especially with great singers and musicians like this. Thanks for sharing this one. Enjoyed it!
He should have been singing "Daryl Smile" cause the way Jimmy sang his song.... Daryl had a proud look on his face the whole time. Oh, and let's not sleep on Daryl hitting the falsetto notes on the harmony!!!!!
Wish Daryl would bring his house back as a youtube feature with all kinds of oldies and wonderful artists of all musical genres. Jimmy done put the goosebumps on me!
I was sitting down to lunch when I played this video. I wasn't watching because I was eating. The vocal started and I thought it was Daryl until I heard Jamel say "Jimmy Wayne!" I was so surprised to see Daryl singing back up and Jimmy Wayne singing lead. I've seen Daryl's generosity on Daryl's House before, so I wasn't so surprised to see him play in the background like that. Great version of this song. Thanks, Jamel.

This is one of my Daryl’s House favorites, but my absolute favorite is “She’s Gone” with Rob Thomas. The arrangement is spot on, and the guitar playing can bring you to tears.
I worked at a country radio station for nearly 40 years. For 20 of those years our station put on a free concert in the city that averaged 80 thousand fans on one day of free music, a classic car show and arts festival. One of the memories that will stay with me the longest is Jimmy Wayne, on a nearly 100 degree day, jumping off the stage and dancing through the crowd singing. He was jumping over fences and singing on top of picnic tables. It was awesome. This song shows his softer side but the man knows how to rock too.

You don't get invited to jam at Daryl's house if you're not a badass.

Wow! Never heard of him, but very impressed, beautiful voice! 🤗
I swear he sounds just like Daryl in this version.
I’ve seen Jimmy Wayne several times, and this brother sings from deep down inside his soul! If you can’t feel that, you’ll never feel real music! 😎
You're not alone Jamel. I've never heard of Jimmy Wayne either, but that was so beautiful. Gonna watch it again right now!!
