In this short clip John Danaher compares Jiujitsu to Judo and wrestling. He says that Jiujitsu doesn't care about takedowns. Jiujitsu cares about what happens 3 seconds after the takedown. In Judo as soon as you hit the ground the match is over and you are out. But in Jiujitsu as soon as you hit the ground thats where the fight begins.

BJJ should care more about takedowns. BJJ is always evolving. Maybe it’s time for intensive wrestling takedown drills to be incorporated.
It's never going to so long as the scoring system remains as it is. They're only worth 2 points no matter how much amplitude you get, and you can't push guys out of the ring for points like in wrestling. Why work so hard for 2 points to just get put in someone's guard?
If you love takedowns so badly go watch wrestling or Judo matches. Jiu Jitsu is all about the ground game. 😊
@@kommisar.thank God there is no bonus for things such as amplitude. way to kill a sport
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
@@vibovitold Why would that kill the sport?
I love the snap zooms on Johns right ear over his right shoulder
The Terrance Howard of bjj
Without the rep
Arm bar ÷ 1 x 1 + Heel.hook = 2 !
He always acts like the very normal things he's saying are very profound because he repeated it 3 more times in varying and pretentious ways.
He's a philosophy major, were you expecting different?
Yeah my thoughts exactly, load of pointless waffle
You can't care about the outcome if you can't take someone down..🤔🤷🏾♂️
Mikey Muscemeci has won multiple world championships without ever once even attempting a takedown in any of his matches.
You realize that jiujitsu athletes train takedowns?….
For starters, you can get taken down yourself (even if you do practice take downs). You don't care what happens next? No ref to put you back on your feet
they can take down people, of course
This video would be better without the zooming in and out.
What you guys don’t seem to realize is that you cant always take everyone down. And even then, fighting for the takedown often results in getting you tired, and I believe to intentionally get tired before we even hit the ground is stupid.
This is for all you Guard-Pull haters out there
In my style of jiu jitsu, I work up on my feet and on the ground. I work takedowns and groundwork equally, and both of them are very equally important. I have to get someone to the ground and keep them there, wherein I control and manipulate their body.
Till you get suplexed and now you're unconscious lol
Totally missed the point.
If you’re getting suplexed, you probably didn’t have the skills to stop it from happening in the first place.

@@kommisar. Wahhhhhhhh
Bo Nickal vs Gordon Ryan, he let him took him down, with a supplex, and submitted him like a baby. He tapped like chicken.
Yeah John idc how profound you attempt to make this sound. Takedowns matter and will matter even more in the future. Especially in self defense when a throw/suplex can render you unconscious if you don't handle it correctly.
He's talking about competitive BJJ, not "real fighting".
you're not listeing. A takedown is valuable if you can transition to something from it. If the other guy just pops up again, it's a waste of energy
@@goneinsixtyseconds Was about to say this. A throw is like a punch: unreliable, sometimes your opponent will be out after just one or they will take 20 of them and still be coming at you. Meanwhile there is no shrugging off a choke.
True. It still helps to know takedowns. You wanna be like GSP in the UFC or Kron Gracie.
Good to see that people are seeing through his bs
Bs? how so
ehh i tend to disagree depending on the ruleset, for example they award takedowns w points or they penalize for pulling guard.
The only rule sets I'm aware of in any sort of submission grappling is in ADCC and catch wrestling, the latter of which no one watches or cares about anyway.
If executed correctly
The throw or takedown is all ya need to end the fight..
But it also depends on what scenario he’s referring to..
Street or sport.. two very different situations
He's referring to sport and only sport. I don't know why anyone would think he's talking about self-defense.
in certain wrestling styles, what happens after also matters 🤔
Very little really.
I love this guy he is truly a genius but irl the pavement and your body care alot about the throw lol!!!
He's making a correct observation more so than defending it. In a real fight, the takedown could end the fight. A sub or choke could end it. Or a knockout punch. Considering that bjj is a grappling art, it should care about takedowns. Fights dont start on the knees or on the ground.
Ahh yes John, 1 question, how do We acheive that outcume? Oh wait, takedowns
You mean all those guard pullers never won any matches?
Such a weirdo, oh ok doesnt care ok Ken……..Boxing doesnt care about your X guard. It cares 0.6 seconds after ur jaw breaks. God he loves the sound of his own voice.
Yeah, because we can all watch all those boxing vs. BJJ matches where the BJJ loses with a broken jaw.... Have another potato chip, warrior.
@@kommisar. LOL
