  • I just published the annual Headphones Awards video (👉🏼 • Headphones Awards 2024... ) and there were loads of fantastic options for wireless headphones. But of the 80+ pairs tested...one stood out above the rest: Fairbuds XL.
    🟢 Modular, user-repairable design
🟢 Made from recycled materials & e-waste neutral
    🟢 40 mm dynamic drivers
🟢 IP54 dust and water resistance
    🟢 ANC & transparency
    🟢 Bluetooth 5.1, SBC / AAC / aptX / aptX HD
    🟢 30 h battery (26 h with ANC), USB-C
    🟢 Multipoint
🟢 Custom EQ options in the app
These headphones are really the template for what all headphones should be: user repairable and modular. This means you can disassemble and replace individual components of the headphones yourself. You don't need to pay to replace the entire headphones, only the parts you actually need. If you have worn out ear cushions, a faulty cable or an old battery etc...you can simply order a replacement and fix it yourself.
It's not just the independence and flexibility this gives you, it's the environmental impact that's really key. A modular design like this is far more sustainable - the headphones can have a longer lifespan, incorporate recycled materials and parent company Fairphone invest in CO2-reducing projects. They also recycle the same amount of e-waste when you buy Fairbuds XL - so they're e-waste neutral. They take the environmental impact seriously...and EVERY headphones company should follow this example.
They've proven you can make a great-sounding pair of modular, user-repairable wireless headphones that doesn't compromise on the specs and features. There's really no excuse for all companies to not be doing this.

Imagine being this considerate & level headed as a corporation.
    But they aren't

Fairphone is not a corporation. They are an activist company that does most of their things to take attention to a problems in the industry. No company would make a phone or earbuds with an advertising - the most sustaiable gadget is in your pocket.
But still, these fuckers removed 3.5 mm jack from their phones, БЛЯТЬ and i bought their fairphone 5

100% Agree. This can be applied to a wide range of product categories.
There's just one thing keeping us away from products being designed like this: Corporate greed

Why not just get IEMs or open-backs wired ones?

That’s actually incredibly helpful! Not sure if they’re available in the United States but that’s a neat idea.

I've seen them on Amazon.com - although the green colour was quite a bit more expensive (maybe import fees). There's no 'USA' country option on Fairphone's website either. The black colour was reasonably priced though, so it looks like you can still do it in the US if you want!

I wonder about the sound quality 😮

I actually think it's pretty good! First impressions putting them on and listening was great. Later as I started to compare them with others, I noticed the quality didn't quite match up to a lot of the competition - but it took a side by side comparison for me to notice that. Most people won't have loads of other headphones as a reference point, so I think the average listener would be quite happy
