No matter how many times I see this explained it still amazes me.

U saved my job today bro
I learned to make my hook on the roof stronger than the weight of what I was about to lift
    Thanks for sharing

Great demo! So simple in concept but not obvious till it's explained. Thanks!

When he asked "how much load is on my snatch block" I guessed it was 240 but having no experience with or knowledge of snatch blocks I couldn't have explained why. It seemed like it weighing more just made sense and know I know why.

This is great. I will save it for all of the off road videos that use snatch blocks on the anchor claiming there is mechanical advantage. Thanks for the demo. One note, the winch force or power is not increased. The load limit it is able to pull is increased by the mechanical advantage. There’s a slight difference but important to understand.

Now if my physics professor explained it like this I would have excelled that semester! Great video, thanks for posting.

This is a great help. The pulley must be connected to the moveable load, not the anchor point (for a single pulley). I would of had this wrong. Thanks

It doesn't *have to* be if all you want is change of direction. It must be if you want mechanical advantage.

Very informative from this I realize I could have done a recent job of clearing a fallen tree in a better way I used the snatch block only to change the direction of the pull, thanks.

I had no idea a loads weight doubled. One being gravity and the other being load weight

the only thing that makes this a "snatch" block is the fact that you can open it up to allow you to put the line on it rather than having to thread it through from the end of the line. In all other respects it's a regular pulley, and all regular pulleys will act as your "snatch" block acts.

What would the scale read if the scale was placed between the weight of Subject of 120lbs and the hook of the bottom pulleys in the second example setup? .... I have not measured it myself and I plan to do the research myself and prove it ..... there are a lot of idiots playing with youtube audiences nowadays thus I never take things for granted when I watch videos .... even the 911 twin towers videos are wrong as 3 highrisers or very tall buildings were "demolished" but we only see 2 airplanes .... thanks for sharing your video and for allowing comments.
