Finally the answer i was looking for, and still took to 6:30 to get the answer. Looked at many different explanations, and no one explained why the snatch block gives you a mechnical advantage (usually a single pulley does not give you a mecahnical advantage). Its because the other end of the cable (attached to the bumper in this case) is taking half the load.
Great explanation! We do a lot of double-pulls. The double line pull seems to be easier on the equipment. I've snapped a synthetic winch line and had one winch fail. That's no fun in the woods. Cheers!
There has been numerous tests done about the friction, and all the findings show that there is extremely minimal of any heat generated, and the smooth anodized finish agains the synthetic winch lines is non-abrasive.
When I get around to replacing my steel cable with nylon I'll be sure to grab one of those gold rings. Looks lighter and seems to have superior design-- Simplicity.
Winches and snatch blocks my dude M88a2 has 70 ton cap and 2 snatch blocks would multiply your pulling power to yank that big wet monster out of there.
@@BoldCanyonOutdoors I am looking for a 10 meter or 15 meter winch extension line (rope) for hi lift jack winching. I do have a snatch ring as well as a snatch block. The rope must have a loop on both sides. Joseph (South Africa).
I’m in the USA, but you’d need to find a company that makes winch line and have them make an extension with loops in both ends. Or use something like this and add a loop: www.ironman4x4.co.za/product/synthetic-rope-9-5mm-x-27m/
Well, that all depends on how stuck you are. I would recommend going with at least an 8000 pound winch for that size a vehicle. recommended that your winch is always stronger than the weight of your vehicle. However, 5000 pounds of pull is better than nothing if that’s what you have, you can make it work.
First you said it doubles the the power of the winch then you said it doesn’t and then you went back to saying it does then finished with saying it doesn’t 🤔or am I high ? Maybe I am just high never mind 😅
It’s gives you a mechanical advantage that helps you move twice the weight at half the speed. What I was trunk to say was a 10,000lb winch is a 10,000lb winch…NOT miraculously a 20,000 lb winch
Unfortunately you don’t understand because it was explained incorrectly. The only true statements are that no amount of snatch blocks will increase the pulling power of your winch and adding a pulley distributes the weight between two sides. But adding a pulley to an anchor will never create mechanical advantage. It will only serves as a change of direction in any system. It seems to me that all the off road videos just repeat what they have been told. Reality is that if there is any mechanical advantage happening it is taking place at the winch itself that is acting as a pulley as well (Magic). Or as in the last scenario where the snatch block was attached to the load, creating a 2:1 with potential 4:1 again if you count the winch as a pulley (magic). Watch this video that explains mechanical advantage so will understand. ruclips.net/video/yRSGnE9aTi0/видео.htmlsi=7ZcBzK4eAkFamAqx

This is the most helpful explanation of a snatch block ive seen yet !..2 thumbs up for explaining this !!

Oh yeah! It’s awesome to have all the tools, but they only seem to break when you’re miles away from the garage!
Hey John!!!
Maybe you could identify where you locate the ring/block matters (on the load or at anchor)
Nice practical explanation. 👍
Will it work to lift logs??? To build a house???or rafters?
Knowledgeable and well spoken! Great editing too, got a new sub
Hey- thank you so much for this explanation.
Thvank you! I am, just now, learning about this.

Don't those gold ring type devices cause damaging friction against synthetic ropes?
There has been numerous tests done about the friction, and all the findings show that there is extremely minimal of any heat generated, and the smooth anodized finish agains the synthetic winch lines is non-abrasive.
Great post, very honest and informative.
Thank you.
Cheers 🍻...
At 2:26 he says the pulley is pulling "down this direction". Doesn't he mean pulling up?

I need visuals. Show this in action the whole thing not just close ups
Take a look at smarter everyday snatch block video

Well put
Excellent explanation!
Thank you!

So if my vehicles 6500lbs and I have a 5,000lbs winch, if I have a snatch block and hook to myself the winch should be able to handle it?

Don't forget about suction if you are stuck in the mud. There are tons of variables
Great video keep up the great work. Cheers

Let me know what you need clarification on…or we can just say it’s magic!
