Why I Stopped Drawing For Myself In Art School

Sometimes I ask myself, am I being more creative after going to Art school or not? I really don’t know. Going to art school seems to be a must for art students. It is a safe choice. I want to be around professionals and another creative minds. But at the same time, am I being more like everyone else? Am I more confident about myself? In this video, I talk about my self-reflection after going to art school. I think art school is helpful but we need to remind ourselves what makes us want to pursue art in the first place. I had a lot of fun planning, filming, and editing this video. Hopefully, you find it helpful and entertaining.

I'm just starting art school this year and this video made me cry bcuz I relate so much to what you said Art used to be fun .... a way for me to relieve stress but now sitting at my desk just to work on another project feels like doing a math homework in 9th grade again like it feels like a burden rather than a hobby i love art i love everything about it I'm really good at it or that's what ppl say to me but feeling the requirement to meet the expectations ppl set up is hard like what if I'm not good enough to be here will i ever get a job am i doing the right thing should i choose another major all these questions come to my head and i can't seem to find the answer to any of it

I feel you. I think no one actually figures it out in school easily and it’s ok. School is the place we can get as lost as we want. People who look like they figured everything out always have other things to worry about too. So it’s unnecessary to compare with others. It takes time to be comfortable being yourself. The stress I have experienced is usually coming from my own expectations and family’s. After all that I realize that there is no point to stress myself out and make life harder. If I can’t finish the presentation before class, then just accept it and take the loss for that day. I learned to accept that I can’t have everything I want. Sleep, college life, perfect work. It is ok to not have perfect work. Just make sure you don’t lose the passion at the end of the day. Time will take care of everything else.
