  • @paulsonj72
    @paulsonj72 7 лет назад +26

    Pretty much what started it all is that when Neil Armstrong was fired(head coach before Ditka) George Halas personally told his defensive players that there coaches would be back next season. So when Mike Ditka was hired he inherited a defensive staff and could not hire his own defensive assistant coaches. When a new head coach has to keep a previous staff and hire his own there can be problems. And FWIW it was the defensive players who wrote a letter to Halas to encourage him to keep the defensive staff as they felt they were getting better.

    The whole feud was one-sided in my opinion. Buddy Ryan was pissed off at the fact that the late George Halas named Mike Ditka the head coach of the Bears and not him so his grudge in many ways was with George Halas and not Mike Ditka. So Buddy Ryan took out the animosity and made it a personal grudge against George Halas through Mike Ditka.

    I know some critics will say that Buddy Ryan underachieved as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, but man,...I enjoyed watching Buddy Ball! I honestly can't recall too many football games in which the Eagles lost badly. Of course, I remembered to this day the 20-6 loss and blunder against the Redskins. What can I say, Joe Gibbs coaching style at that time was only 2nd to Bill Walsh. Buddy Ryan at that time was going up against a genius head coach and Buddy did not X and O too well. At that time, the Eagles were touted as the best team no one wanted to play against during the 1990 playoffs. And shortly Buddy got fired. To this day, I still wish that the Eagles did not fire Ryan. It may have not made a difference against the Cowboys becoming a dynasty, but it would have been much more exciting than the coach Kotite debacle Eagles fans had to endure. The Eagles definitely lost most of their identity without Buddy Ryan after 1990. That period was hard to swallow for a lot of Philly fans. But oh well.

    Because of Ditka's petty jealousy of Ryan, he abandoned the "46" defense as soon as Ryan left - and never got near a Super Bowl, again. That team should have won at lest three more, in a row. FACT: The following season after the Super Bowl win, the Bears actually used the "46" defense 27 times, with no play gaining positive yardage, 9 sacks, 8 turnovers, with 5 forced fumbles and 3 picks with two for TD's. Tom Landry once stated that he had three great defenses - the Doomsday, Umbrella and Flex - and he didn't change them until the NFL caught up with them. But not Cementhead Ditka...............SMH.............

    Buddy should have remained in Chicago; but I can give Buddy Ryan pointers for perusing his dream of wanting to be a Head-coach in the NFL. But he was a better Defensive Coordinator, versus Head-coach. He should have been inducted into the Hall Of Fame, as a Defensive Coordinator. Because Ryan and Ditka assembled the best defense there ever was, and they won a championship in 1985, together. Ryan and Ditka needed each-other.

    Mike Ditka would DESTROY Buddy Ryan. If you are a football fan, watch highlights of Ditka play. He was a BEAST. For someone my age (born in 1987), I have only known Mike Ditka as a football coach, and a television analyst. I knew he played for Bears and Cowboys at end of his career. But i never really watched him play. After watching him play, he was an undeniably GREAT, tough, dominant, and smart football player. Buddy Ryan seemed to be a very good coach and tactician, but he does not compare to Mike Ditka.

    Years later Ditka made a statement by asking a question: "How many super bowls did either win without the other"? Regardless of whether Buddy had stayed, the dilemma of the 80's Bears would have remained even if the defense continued as the best in football! Everyone seems to forget that the key to the Bears repeating as the 70's Steelers had, centered around the QB position! Opponents knew that without Jim McMahon at QB, the Bears' offense was 1 dimensional & they would stack against the run! Even with a (Greatest of all-time) RB like Walter, their opponents knew Steve Fuller & Mike Tomczak weren't going to beat them throwing the football deep! Ditka's ball control offense was taylor made for defenses bringing everyone up near the line of scrimmage! Because of that fact, at least 2 or more defenders could shadow Payton on every play! Only a QB capable of going deep (accurately & consistently) kept those linebackers & defensive backs honest! If Jim McMahon had stayed healthy (all season) from 84' to 90', the Chicago Bears have a legitimate shot of equaling or eclipsing the 70's Steelers mark of 4 Super Bowls in 6 years!

    It isn't Ryan's fault that they didn't win a Super Bowl. they did have great teams. Just were just in the wrong division. That NFC east was pretty tough. Once everyone figure out how to beat the 46 defense, the fix was in. Miami used the short passing game, and Joe Gibbs used max protect version of the Don Coryell offensive to beat the 46.

    Two authentic, arrogant warriors who only know war, not emotions. With Buddy & Mike, you always knew where you stood, that moment. No falsity. No deceit. No games. If you weren't ready to fight and suffer, you didn't get their respect. This internal battle is nothing different than our generic human history. It's always a battle. The more honest the warriors and generals, the better for all, even the losers. Our world is losing this fighting spirit more every day. The shadow of woke weakness is infiltrating every aspect of secular society, even our professional warriors: our nation's military. Arrogance is destructive, just look at George Patton, Donald Trump and George Soros. There is evil all around. We'll always need courageous, selfless, un-woke warriors to defend virtue. When we lose the warriors, we lose. Period.
