    Canada has an awesome flag, the Maple Leaf Forever, our flag is the most recognized flag in the entire world. This is Canada's third ensign since Confederation and this one is for keeps, and on February 15th 2015 the Maple Leaf Flag will be 50 years, what a great flag! what a great country!

      bizbutton we had a canadian ww2 veteran in town who refused to fly the maple leaf. Always a red ensign. He wasn't pleased at all when they replaced the flag. I think he was a prisoner of war or something. I think my grandfather thought the same way, being a veteran as well. I fly a red ensign on my front lawn. To respect the Canadians who died in ww1, ww2, and Korea, and the commonwealth as a whole.

    The old flag of Canada was very beautiful but the new flag is beautiful too.
    The old flag was the British Red Ensign with the Union Jack and the Arms of
    England, Scotland, Ireland and France the Homelands of the most of Canadians
    they come from Europe.
    The new flag is now the symbol of the free great Nation of Canada with the National
    Colors Red and White and the National Symbol of Canada, the Red Maple Leaf.

    For those who don't know, the flag started to become a more serious topic when Canada was to be the peacekeeping force in Post Suez Egypt and the Egyptians objected to the idea of Canada acting as peacekeepers while having the British Union flag on the national flag due to Britain being one of the main belligerents.
    This coupled with dissatisfaction with the Red Ensign among Quebecois Canadians led Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to request a campaign to create a Canadian flag that united the people by the 60s.

      _"Being Canadian is being British"_ No, it absolutely is not. The Queen _was_ the queen of the United Kingdom and of Canada separately, both in law and in constitution. Canadians and Britons do not have the right to move to and live in each other's countries; neither legislates for the other or represents the other internationally. Whatever relationship they had in the past, they are entirely separate now. If you want to be British, in your own words, LEAVE: Britain is that island off the coast of France. it isn't Canada.

      The Dominion of Canada was ESTABLISHED to be the homeland for the United Empire Loyalists (British Americans who fought for King George III and the British Empire againsg the British American Rebels in the American Revolution) and their descendents and for British immigrants and their descendents. The Dominion of Canada should have NEVER gained it's independence because it was never set up to do so. For Canadians who support the independence of the Dominion of Canada from the United Kingdom of Great Britain should have MOVED south to the United States where they belong. Canada should have stayed how it was from 1841-1867 when it was caled the Province of Canada minus the French Quebecois anti-English bigots and anti-Canada seperatist and nationalist traitors and the Anglo Canadian anti-Canada and anti-Monarchy republican traitors. The French Quebecois seperatist and nationalist traitors should be STRIPPED of their Canadian citizenship and be DEPORTED from the Dominion of Canada back to the Republic of France. The Anglo Canadian republican traitors should also be STRIPPED of their Canadian citizenship and they too should be DEPORTED from the Dominion of Canada to the United States of America. The Dominion of Canada should be the North American part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The Dominion of Canada should have been transformed into a Province of the United Kingdom of Great Britain just like how Martinique and Guadeloupe where transformed from Colonies to Departments of the Republic of France. The term of the United Kingdom of Great Britain should not just be applied to England and Scotland, but should also be applied to Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The United Kingdom of Great Britain should be comprised of six provinces which should be 1)The Province of England, 2)The Province of Scotland, 3)The Province of Ireland, 4)The Province of Canada, 5)The Province of Australia and 6)The Province of New Zealand. England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand should be to Great Britain what California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois and Pennyslvania are to America. The Republic of France is not just comprised of Metropolitan France (Mainland France) and Corisca, it is also comprised of Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana for example. The United Kingdom of Great Britain should not just be comprised of just of England and Scotland (Mainland Great Britain) but also Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Dominion of Canada is LOYALIST and ROYALIST land and all French Quebecois seperatist and nationalist traitors and all Anglo Canadian republican traitors should be deported to both America and France ASAP. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN AND LONG LIVE THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN.

      PANTSMONSTER66 What you are and what I am does not matter whatsoever. I did not say we were British. We were Canadian even when we we had British symbols to identify us. In both world wars Canadians, serving King, Canada and the Empire bore British unit identification, used British traditions and flew the British Flag, even the Canadian Red Ensign which Canadians in both world wars fought under was a Canadian symbol, it was designed in Canada in 1868 a year after Confederation in 1867.

    The greatest honour that we can give to those who've died for our country is to continue growing and developing as a nation. The most pressing thing now is to make life better for Canadians, and to fight for justice around the world. In keeping with this idea, we can ensure that captured ex-child soldiers are not treated outside the law by foreign countries, while being denied their right of citizenship at home.

    @Prairielander I'm all for honouring our heritage; but I'm also all for proclaiming our independence and multicultural reality. The Canadian Constitution recognises that we were founded by more than one nation, and the discontent in Quebec can be traced to the reality of English domination. The old flag was a potent symbol of that dynamic.

    We're both entitled to our own perspectives.
    I simply disagree on your take of an Ensign.
    You don't have to speak as if I am some old-money Lord from Westminster's second chamber - I know the Empire is of the past.
    The Empire has no connexion to what I was referring to.
    Indeed, Canada has evolved. But if this is the case, then why did the Liberals choose an even more exclusive flag than the Red Ensign to represent the Federal Government?

    It was and is our true flag ... the committee that imposed the Liberal Party rag could not change that. The Red Ensign and The Maple Leaf Forever! I like O'Canada as an anthem but it just does not strike the same heart-felt chords. Both should be the official anthems of this country which would be more historically correct anyhow.

    • @NMeyer0

    • @1812AndMore
      @1812AndMore 9 лет назад +9

      Nat Mey The Red Ensign had the Coat of Arms OF Canada and the Three Maple Leafs entwined. It also represents Canadians with Irish, and French blood.

    • @NMeyer0
      @NMeyer0 9 лет назад

      Yes but the point is it doesn't represent Indian-Canadians, Vietnamese-Canadians, Syrian-Canadians, Brazilian-Canadians, Italian-Canadians, Greek-Canadians, etc. etc. The sole Maple Leaf came to represent Canadians of all backgrounds. That's why the Red Ensign was a relic of the British Empire's outdated tradition. It's not relevant except in a historic sense to the Canada of today.

    • @1812AndMore
      @1812AndMore 9 лет назад +13
