    Sergiu, thank you for your content! Just a suggestion: test headlights at 20 meters instead of 3 meters. Testing them at short distance is misleading because the real problem with LED headlights is lack of throw-so that would be great to test. Thanks!

      Thanks, Sergiu! Happy new year! I’m curious if it makes sense to modify the LED bulb that goes into the halogen housing in order to improve the long distance focus of the light. Have you seen something like that in your experiments?

    • @Kowalski301
      @Kowalski301 Год назад

      It does not matter what distance you measure, because of the inverse square law of light. If you have a lux value at any distance, you wil always know the exact lux value at ANY distance. The only thing to be aware of is limitations of the lux meter, so the best is to measure at a distance where you have the highest accuracy of the meter.

      does super yellow ( and stock my late 60's charger did lighting wise doesn't stay stable as the voltage changes a lot idling vs max-RPM's aka 10v to 14~vdc looks cool to me on the outside like it's a halloween 👻movie car but driving after awhile it's nice to have steady 14v and modernist LED's/laser/blues but doesn't look right for my-car/older models same for angles eyes lighting but i kinda like it RGB for the win lolz 😂) aka 1950-70 USA 🇺🇸 dodge/GM ( or more extreme is probably the 1920's-ish? yellow/dim ) lighting vs modern 6000k/blues-ish tinting makes a difference in dazzling/blinding/reducing-visibility others ( colour only difference as my OEM-60's isn't as bright and use's 50-60A's @ 12VDC i know i tested it the lux parts im not sure as i didn't do any testing as i was more concerned about upgrading the battery to LIF/lithium and the alternator 320A ect vs 40-90~A equipment ) driver's and or yourself rare conditions but can happen , like the snow storm/blizzard in wyoming/I80 i drove in once and because of the high beam/bad light on a 1980's-2010 car afternoon-midnight sorry i forget the details
      id guess that dim vs super bright LUX will make a difference in seeing out and chances of dazzling others and or yourself if the conditions are right for it

    Projector housings have a metal flap that shields light to make that clean cutoff line. So basically you only get about 50% of the total light output of any light bulb. In reflector headlights they have a shroud built into the light bulb or placed very close to it which efficiently reflects light on to the the usable half of the reflector.

    Hi Sergiu, like the way you do it, the very important part that is missing is electronic interference. I did test some very bright led bulbs that developed radio interference in a way that the radio lost completely the signal, as there was no antenna! On the other side, led's with active cooler might also develop a plain's engine noise level...but that you loose the radio signal, not worth it but worth testing. Keep the good and clean work, all the best

    • @a.f.1587
      @a.f.1587 3 года назад

      Good point. Unfortunately, he does not really point these issues out. Most of the cars also throw canbus error codes when using LED lights, since they do not draw that much current as the standard bulbs, so the car thinks the bulbs are burned out. Yes, you will get more light and a nice cool white light, but for what cost? Interference in FM radio receivers, and canbus errors. I think he should mention these things in all of his videos regarding LED retrofit.

    Sergiu bravo pentru teste dar lucrand in domeniu ma asteptam de la tine sa testezi becurile conform cerintelor ECE R112 deoarece acolo se vede daca aceste retrofituri indeplinesc cerintele, adica sa lumineze cat trebuie unde trebuie.
    Cred ca tu stii ca farurile se omologheaza cu masuratori in anumite puncte define in standarde, nu aleatoriu.
    La ochi par bune aceste LEDuri dar in teste amanuntite, facute inclusiv de SAE, se pare ca nu indeplinesc cerintele standardelor. Lumineaza prea mult sau prea putin in anuminte puncte cheie. Nici LEDurile OSRAM sau Philips nu indeplinesc conditiile de omologare si nu sunt conforme R112.

      Ai mare dreptate cu ce zici. Led-urile de multe ori dau doar senzația de mai multa lumina, dar iluminarea practica pe drum e mult mai proasta. Un exemplu bun pe care l-am văzut e cu localizarea hotspot-ului care la multe led-uri e situat mai jos fata de unde ar trebui sa fie. Asta înseamnă că ai mai multa lumina mai aproape de mașină și păcălește ochiul care nu se mai adaptează pt vederea la distanta și în final, deși lumina e mai intensa, tu vezi mai prost pe drum.

    Very informative and detailed review as always! Thank you for all the effort you put into your work!
    However, I measured totally different thermals with these LEDs. I measured 153°C on the hot spot in room temp, while testing these bulbs - that is 130°C delta above ambient!
    The measuring point in your thermal imaging was way above the CSP LED chips which are the hotspots. My amperage was similar to yours, the fan was working. It burned a black spot on my wood table during the test, after about 1 minute, from 2 centimeters.
    The packaging foam which gave you that thick smoke would not burn at the 48°C that you measured.
    I would not suggest people to put these LEDs in their cars, as it is possible to damage the plastic headlights. The total heat output is less than from a Halogen bulb, however the beam is more concentrated, it might melt some headlights.
    Be careful!

    • @azsha1000
      @azsha1000 2 года назад

      @@alexpascu1985 I did not try this. My theory is that the LED chip has a much narrower angle, (something like 120° instead of 360°), thus a more focused beam. It burned my wooden desk, it was smoking and the wood turned black.
      On the other hand, the 153°C that I measured (in open air, not inside a closed headlight) is way over the usual 120° max temperature for CSP LED chips, so they would fail very quickly.

Niciun fel de probleme cu ele din punct de vedere al răcirii sau al luminozității. • @SergiuGabor
      @SergiuGabor  3 года назад

      Lumens are a bit more difficult to measure. Basically, lumens is the total light output of a source in all directions. Lux is the amount of light which falls on a surface. In this case, the lumen rating is irrelevant because if the light bulb is designed poorly, it can not project all that light output on the road. So, in my opinion, the amount of light illuminating the road is much more important than the total light output of a bulb.

    This is the second of your videos I have watched (the first one was the H3 LED comparo), and again I was not disappointed by the very good scientific method and video presentation...I would like to comment on the voltages you choose...the 12V is a nominal which is OK for discussion but doesn't represent the typical operating conditions very well...and on the other hand, the 14V is a bit high, again not simulating the typical conditions so well...I suggest you perform tests at 12.6V (V of a fully charged lead-acid Bat, so this would be a without engine running and no Charging Sys output), and also a 13.6 (typical system V when engine is running, and Chg Sys is on-line, pulling up buss V).
    Maybe I missed you measuring Wattage at 14V, but you might find that W at 13.6V might come closer to the specified 50 (I expect W vs V could be a non-linear curve also!).
    The submersion test was pretty non-realistic test IMO (I'm sure the cooling fan didn't appreciate it, but I suppose then the whole thing was "liquid cooled", and it didn't need the fan!!)...a more realistic test might have been being sprayed from a misting bottle to simulate an under-hood condition with a compromised cover, but I understand you were doing a "worst-case" test... Thanks for a very good presentation, and Greets from Connecticut!

    I bought the Bevinsee V35 HIR2 version of these leds for Toyota Yaris Cross projector lenses to replace the halogen bulbs. It works good enough and especially the thermal management is very good - they really dont heat very much. But the HIR2 version has not correct dimensions in compare to the normal bulb - the LED chips are higher that the hot spot of the normal bulb, so the focus is not very good. Also I am seeing some reflections and it can be a problem for other drivers.

    During operation, an automobile's nominal voltage is 14V, and drops to a nominal 12V with the engine off. Since headlights are normally used with the engine on, testing should be performed at 14V. This will also increase the measured wattage.
    Measure the wattage at 14V and it should be close to 50W.

    Frumos video chiar imi doream asa ceva. Ce vreau sa mentionez este ca cele mai bune LED-uri de pe piata la ora actuala sunt HIKARI Ultra dar nu cele cu varianta 2020. Varianta Hikari Ultra sunt cele mai bune de pe piata la ora actuala din toate punctele de vedere. Chiar asa dori o asemenea comparatie intre pocnitoarele acestea Chinezesti prezentate in acest video si cele Hikari Ultra. Sincer daca vei face acest video intre cele 2 cu siguranta vei face cele mai multe View-uei in segmentul video cu becuri. mult succes si astept acest video

      Am văzut câteva clipuri cu LED-urile Hikari și arata destul de ok, problema e ca sunt foarte puternice 12000 lmn, e imens ca flux luminos, te înhata băieții în secunda 2. O alta problema e prețul, nu știu cine se încumetă sa dea aproape 600 lei pe un set.

    • @karoliningame
      @karoliningame 3 года назад

      @@christianpopescu385 12000 lmn nu au atat am eu Hikari Ultra si stiu ce vb. Au in jur de 10.500 lmn. Si stai tu linistit ca nu te inhata baietii datorita cum bat ele. Sunt reglate perfect fara sa orbeasca participantii la trafic nu degeaba au acel pret. iar daca tu spui ca 600 lei este mult pe o pereche de led-uri care sunt cele mai bune din lume, atunci vezi ca te inseli sunt philips si alte marci mult mai scumpe si nu se compara cu Hikari Ultra. Si inca ceva. In momentul cand folosesti asemenea lumini recomandat ar fi sa schimbi farul. Adica sa ai far de tip proiector nu reflector. Reflectorul lumina este imprastiata neuniform asa cum apare pe video. Dar chiar si asa Hikari ultra s-a dovedit ca nu orbeste. Sunt multe chinezari cu 50-100 de lei care orbesc participanti la trafic si acolo te inhata mai degraba baietii. PS Hikari ultra se bat cu multe becuri Xenon Aftermarket chiar si OEM. Iar spre surprinderea ta doar un bec Xenon OEM costa 50-80 euro. si sunt mai slabe sau egal fata de Hikari Ultra. De exp masini din grupul VAG. Si inca ceva de mentionat este ca nu iti da in bord sau stiu eu unde nici un fel de eroare fata de chinezarii. Si tot aici problema intalnita la grupul VAG. Hikari Ultra chiar si asa merita si 200 euro. Si candva au costat acest pret. iar ca si incheiere un set de Hikari Ultra cat te tin aceste becuri nu cred ca rezista masina. Fa tu un calcul cu becuri obijnuite halogen sau xenon la cat timp trebuie sa le schimbi si ai sa vezi ca te costa mai mult si nu ai calitatea Hikari. Iar pentru cunostintele tale HIKARI in Japoneza inseamna LUMINA. Stiu multe despre istoria HIKARI am fost in Japonia la ei si pot vb multe. Si nu este deloc marketing chiar sunt uimit

    • @christianpopescu385
      @christianpopescu385 3 года назад

      Ai dreptate, Hikari sunt LED-uri de o calitate mai buna decât cele chinezești. Eu am CSP uri de peste 3 ani și sunt foarte ok, reglajul l am făcut intr- un service bun. Ma saturasem câte seturi de Night Braker și Xtreme Vision am schimbat. Ideea e ca și Hikari și cele chinezești sunt ilegale.

    • @karoliningame
      @karoliningame 3 года назад

      @@christianpopescu385 mai documenteaza-te. Si nu vorbi daca nu sti. Adica eu am Hikari si manualul si scrie clar ca sunt legale. Problema vine la masina. Daca masina este prevazut din fabrica cu halogen iar tu folosesti LED acolo este o problema si nu HIKARI este problema. Pe langa faptul ca internetul este plin am mai fost si la ei in Japonia si stiu ce vorbesc. PS crede-ma ca si tu ce folosesti sunt niste pocnitoare asta din descrierea ce ai spus mai sus

      Din ce văd, nu-s chiar așa cum le lauzi. În majoritatea top-urilor din anii 2019, 2020 sunt pe locul 10, plus ca în unele nici nu apar. Din recenzii sunt niște kit uri led Cree medii, dar sunt multe altele peste. Revin la faza cu legislația, absolut toate kiturile led Cree în România și în 90% din Europa, cu excepția Olandei, din ce știu eu sunt ILEGALE. Sa nu-mi spui ca dacă mașina vine cu dotări led din fabrică, care s sisteme complexe de iluminare cu led și tu pui niște banale Cree, fie ele și Hikari, modificarea e legală.

    This LED can be perfect for a cars like Japanese Cars, I don't have any dust covers at the back at my Toyota Auris. I can bet it will not loose that much efficiency. Another aspect when we drive i think air also cools front of headlight so it still will have lesser temperatures, probably also that "closed" space is not 100% sealed like you did on that two glasses, because halogen bulbs are more hotter probably there is a little space for heat for that last i'm not sure. Real drop of efficiency at normal use we should except at 6-10%, all depends from construction of the Headlight.

    Why is it that lights placed in reflector headlights produce so much more light (lux) than the same light in a projector headlight?

    • @Mario-1230
      @Mario-1230 3 года назад

      The light in the projector headlights is more even without a brighter spot of the reflector headlight. If you measure the light output in any other spot light output from a projector headlights should be higher. You can see this effect in this video with halogen lights more clearly.

    Testele de la început cu intensitatea le-ai făcut cu led-ul abia pornit sau după ce s-a încălzit? Adică din valoarea aia mai scazi pierderea de 30% sau e deja scăzută?

    • @SergiuGabor
      @SergiuGabor  3 года назад +1

      Este deja scăzuta, deoarece până îmi pregătesc treburile pe acolo are timp sa ajungă la temperatura normala de funcționare. In general durează cam 15-20min până fac măsurătorile.
