Excellent. Definitely my favorite test. This packs a lot of performance into a short run time. LED K is my choice. On my wishlist at Amazon too. Light output is overwhelming while also covering a wider area to truly fill the reflector in the daytime. I need that in clear turn signals which can washout incandescent bulbs in the sun. Not a fan of LED A because of the solid all metal top emitting no light from the tip, where it's needed in the blinding tropical sun. This test is the best of it's kind. Bravo Sergiu !

I'm also a quality engineer and appreciate the thorough objective testing. In my own experience, the Sylvania ZEVO bulbs in the US (It should be the same as OSRAM Premium) has higher output then the standard Sylvania/OSRAM LED bulbs. The ZEVO/Premium bulbs have a higher specified power and a metal heatsink to help dissipate heat. It would be nice to see both the standard and higher power OSRAM bulbs included in future tests.

I've bought some ZEVO indicator LEDs for my car, they pale in comparison to the old philips xtreme vision Leds, the Philips are twice as bright as incandescent bulbs, while the Zevo's can't reach incandescent level of brightness. (although they come very close)
They are reliable though, I've had this set for more than 6 years, and they still work fine!

From my experience, the point of high wattage LED is to imitate the resistant of an incandescent bulb. But, when you continuously blinking them around 3-4 mins, the bulb hotter and the resistance goes down (Ambience Temp around 30 C, Humidity around 90%RH) leads to hyperflashing. When I choose LED, this is one of my criteria. I've also test that large aluminum body for a heat sink though but it doesn't last longer than 4 mins. Now, I've got the active cooling bulb (not the one you test) and I test it around 20mins and it's fine. I recommend you to test this topic for next time.

Hyper flashing is one thing but most important is that the bulb won't turned itself off due to overheat. There was once in an accident and the bulb failed due to overheat. Been using the led bulb I tested above close to a year and its still working well. Perhaps if the test could include if they hyper flash or turned off overtime would be great.

Hi Sergiu! Thanks for your videos: like so much how do you dig into technical details.
I wanna to share with you some of my experience dealing with LEDs: found that in automotive/motorcycle applications most of these low-power (watts) bulbs are rated/advertised for 12V, and when stressed for some time with the usual 12-14.5V involved in battery-powered circuits they starts to fail after few months (flashing, burned chips). So I think would be useful if you include on your test pool a check for the presence of IC voltage regulators embedded on the LED bulb, providing a protection against voltage variations.
Don´t hesitate to contact me if you need further information on this aspect and the brands I´ve found they included a voltage regulator on it´s designs; in some cases they are rated for 12-24VDC with a constant power output.

I went for Osram "Premium" LEDriving BAU15s for my Octavia mk3 and those are working just fine (the ones with the metal surroundings). Those aren't brighter than stock incandescents, but look crispier and don't give any error messages since those have been coded to be LEDs. 😊 Of course those still could perform better and most of all - be cheaper...

I will be getting the Philips for my rear indicators that have a reflector housing. The reason the big brands went for indirect light is that they know this is going to be used as a replacement part for halogen reflector housings and the fact that the brightness from the regular bulb is already good enough, any more and it becomes blinding and distracting to the people sitting behind you in a turning lane.
I simply want the crisp blinking that LEDs give but not to blind the person behind me and distract them, don’t need them rear ending me bc they’re not focussed.
Plus those two bulbs do the best in the temperature/overheating test and I want my indicator bulbs to be reliable, since if they fail I won’t know and that would cause big trouble on the road.

    • @Kurosaki0Ichigo

@@User-cb4jm I just installed LED J, and before fitting them I did a Lux measurement of my incandescent bulbs as well. My incandescent indicator bulbs, where 50lux at 1.5m and these LED Bulbs 130lux at the same distance. So almost 3x times as bright.
The reason I decided to go for bulb J: it's only € 6 for a pair, and based on how they do in my headlights. I might be able to run down, which LED indicator bulb would not be to bright.
Actually I think LED M might come closet to it.

Amazing and very detailed video! The results for the Philips X-tremeUltinon Gen2 is very interesting. I bought my Philips X-tremeUltinon Gen2 a while ago. And from the moment I installed it, it was significantly brighter than my incandescent W16W. I liked them especially because they utilize the existing reflectors resulting in a "fuller" look.
PS 2012 Corolla both front and rear turn signals.
PS Also, I changed my 2003 Corolla's brake lights with the Philips X-tremeUltinon Gen2, and they were significantly brighter (might I say too bright when braking). I suspect it was because of the specific Corolla housing because it was so large.
PS I'm no engineer, but I just wanted to share my experience.

I just got my X-treme Ultinon gen 2 as well in PY21W. I’m puzzled with the results in this video because the led is clearly much brighter than my stock incandescent bulb with only 1500km of driving. If the result (lumen) is accurate, I don’t see any reason to go with brighter alternatives because it will just blind every drivers behind you at that point. Not to mention the philips will probably last much longer because it run much cooler.

Two bulbs are € 6 and I'm going fit them in my front indicators, hopefully they won't die to quickly. But I think with indicators it shouldn't be a big issue, that they get hot. As it's only used a very short time period. I wouldn't want to use them as rear lights..... then the high temperature probably will kill the bulb very fast.

i bought a few types from your last reviews on the reversing lamps and I put some in my indicators but they were too bright :-) even behind amber lenses so I bought amber bulbs and they are perfect. the reversing bulbs were changed too and it is like have headlights in the back of my chariot :-)

Some cars have reverse polarity and so some but not many leds are non polar. For these reason I bought the E in your test before it was done.Unfortunality it was far too bright at start up -28W (fell to 9,5W after some minute)and lose from its socket as you also experienced.

Old Philips indicator LEDs were VERY good. I've had a set for almost 7 years in my car, it's much, much brighter than a incandescent bulb (at least twice as bright).
I've been using Philips brake, reversing, and indicator LEDs for nearly a decade in my car, and they all still work great, VERY bright, VERY reliable, GREAT light pattern. It's a shame Philips decided to stop making them, they were expensive, sure, but they were extremely well built too.

    • @Sugurain
      @Sugurain 10 месяцев назад

      @@petrvalkoun4539 Actually, they don't.
My car is an old fiat from early 90s, with very inefficient tail lights, their reflectors are not concave around the bulbs (it's literally a square box that doesn't focus the light whatsoever), and instead of being painted with chrome paint, the reflectors are painted with cheap, low reflectivity, silver paint.
By fitting it with such efficient LEDs, the light output from the tail lights is around the same of a modern car using incandescent bulbs now.
Modern cars fitted with LED tail lights from factory actually dazzle A LOT more, the light output in those things is unbearable!

Thanks for the testing, Sergiu! What I find lacking is the cost. Most of the upgrades if not are actually not justified in cost as far I can tell by your purchase prices. For example W5W set of 2 bulbs is just 1$, where set of LED retrofits of Osram and Philips are $10. Makes me believe that if you do not look for the tuning and upgrading aspects, it's totally not worth to upgrade or change to LED, because often incandescent bulbs are reliable enough and always the cheapest option in my honest opinion. What do you guys think?

    • @Sugurain
      @Sugurain 2 года назад

My car is 22 years old now, it's a cheap economic car from Fiat which did not have reliable electrics when new, imagine now, two decades later.
Brake lights specifically, would burn or stop working every 6 months or so.
Indicator bulbs drew so much current from the thin wiring, that the whole car lighting would dim whenever they lit.
Headlights had those classic glass lens with patterns to focus the light, terrible efficiency.
To make things worse, my country decided to make mandatory to turn on headlights during the day on highways. This caused the bulbs to burn quicker, and even to overheat and damage the reflector of my headlights. More electric devices turned on = more load on the alternator = more fuel consumption.
LEDs were a blessing, sure they are expensive, but (provided you bought them from a decent brand like Philips) they:
-light up faster (better reaction time from other drivers = more safety)
-light up brighter (better visibility = more safety)
-Consume 1/5 the power of incandescent (less stress on the alternator = better fuel economy)
-Barely get hot (extends the life of the light fixtures of the car)
-Much, much longer life span (if they don't burn in critical situations, like when you need them at night, or during high speed travel = more safety)
To me, if you like you car (wants to keep it forever), and/or wants a little bit more safety, and have the money to upgrade to decent LEDs, then do it.
If your car is modern, decently designed and put together, and you're gonna replace it anyways every 2-3 years, don't even bother.

I have an e39 btw...

So I tested Bulb J some time ago and my results are the complete opposite: my incandescent indicator bulbs only do 50lux at 1.5m, where bulb J did 130lux and being crazy bright. Which makes me believe, some of the cheaper bulbs would be a better option.
Because the goal isn't to blind everyone with your indicators, but make them look better by adding LED light.

I'm very appreciate your work! But from my experience, test for hyperflash can be very, how I can say it, usefull. Why? I tested bulbs on my cars and on one it's working and on another not (have hyperflash). Cars are from same brand. Ford C-Max and S-Max. On C-Max they works and on S-Max no. So they works until I didn't start engine :D

I wasn't expecting such bad results from Osram and Philips. But did you used a Headlight from a VW Golf? The Indicator Housing is so small, that any Bulb with side and back facing LEDs would perform badly. I would love to see bigger housings with reflectors inside as addition, if it's possible to you.

    • @SergiuGabor

@@SergiuGabor even the raw output test (non focused light in all directions) is not fully comparable to a bigger reflector (maybe focused light in "nearly" one direction (maybe because there you could see and measure if the LEDs are in the right spot/focus point, in this case I think both would perform much better)).

I bought Philips bulbs anyway (for 2021Highlander) and they look great - brighter than the original light, but not blinding, i.e. perfect. The housing/reflector shape definitely matters - those in my car seem to like the rear-projecting LEDs like the Philips ones.

Interesting test, but not done completely right. The indicator lights are very tricky due to, as you said, the type of the housing. Best is to shop by specific car. In my case BMW. I have an e92 pre-LCI where I’ve changed the front turn signal bulbs w i-JDMtoy. It was designed for the car and works great. On my girlfriends BMW F20, I’ve changed the rear lights w Philips X-tremeUlinon Gen 1 (not 2) and they are bright as hell. I was a bit worried that she will blind the person behind. Also as a side effect people started to respect when the indicator is on and let us do the maneuver. On the front I put again I-JDMtoy and they are also crazy bright. Slightly orange / pink tint when light up.
None of them gave us a hyper flash on either car, just the typical BMW flick when the car sends a test signal. Nothing that was not correct by simple coding. I’ll be installing the Phillips on an Astra H, so I’ll update the comment.
Also on the F20 replaced the brake lights with Phillips X-tremeUltinon Gen 2, great result. Brake lights is much sharper, color wise and function wise.
