Hello, a few lovely people have pointed out that Rio produces the flower that was used by Agatha for the summoning spell (which is a very cool theory/observation) however, having watched the scene a few times over, it doesn't look to me as though it is the same flower? It looks to me as though Agatha is holding some kind of leaf or flat object in the summoning scene? Maybe it's even a dead flower? Or if it is the same flower, it is somehow flattened? Any thoughts?

I think the flowers were from Sharon's body. Also, I think there were some flowers in the forest if you look into the scenes.

The tarot of death looks to me of Santa Muerte ( the Lady Death of Latin America & Mexico…. If you notice the robe design, the flowers, and her crown all of which is Her.) She follows rules same as Rio does ( “No cheating!” She says to Agatha ) she's sometimes impatient but lets her intentions known, which is funny because Agatha is always avoiding and deceiving Rio’s intentions 😅

“She is my scar” is brilliantly worded. Excuse me but I didn’t expect Marvel to edge on poetic.

"Excuse me but I didn’t expect Marvel to edge on poetic."
[Let's for argument's sake accept that Rio is Mistress 💀]
🧠And I didn't expect Marvel to be so philosophical, but Thanos' motivation; his goal is to obtain all 6 Infinity Stones & use them to eliminate ½ of all life in the universe certainly is.
Marvel's ability to blend philosophy and poetry into their stories is indeed one of the reasons their characters and narratives are so compelling. Thanos' motivation, while extreme, touches on deep philosophical themes, and his relationship with Mistress Death adds a poetic layer to his character.
🤓The connection between Thanos, the philosopher, and Mistress Death, the poet, beautifully illustrates the blend of philosophy & emotion that Marvel often explores. It's these intricate layers that make the MCU so rich & engaging.

🤓 I've never realised how philosophical MCU movies are.
      *NAME MCU MOVIE* *PHILOSOPICAL THEME*
*Thor: Ragnarok* This movie explores themes of power, responsibility, and the roles of gods and heroes. It delves into the idea of leadership and the burdens that
come with it, as well as the concept of destiny versus free will. It also invites us to ponder the different roles and domains these GODS, Gods &
      gods have within the MCU.
*WandaVision* The series raises profound ethical questions about identity, reality, and the consequences of one’s actions. It examines the nature of grief and how
it can shape our perception of reality, as well as the moral implications of creating and controlling life.
*Avengers: Age of Ultron* Vision’s character indeed brings up fascinating questions about consciousness, emotions, and the essence of a soul. The movie also touches on
themes of artificial intelligence, the ethics of creating life, and the potential dangers of unchecked technological advancement.

So much in this episode made me cry. The effort Lorna Wu went to to save her daughter's life. The words in the song. Lorna and Alica's faces side by side as Alice played her mother's song.
And these lines from Lilia as well. Lilia is a girls girl. "Look what you've done" and "Sad is better than angry".
I imagine Agatha's episode and Lilia's will make me cry too. Especially all the pain Lilia has been through living through the witch trials. This is by far the best MCU series yet.

If not for the hug and look in the woods of the road, the jam session with the Lorna Wu's version of Down the Witch's Road would have been the best scene. But the chemistry between Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza was enough to cause a fusion explosion, the kind that creates stars and black holes. Anyone who says that this is subtext does not know the difference between text and subtext. This relationship between Agatha and Rio is text, bright burning neon letters flashing across the sky text. Let's give Marvel credit for something something right for a change. (Okay, they've done other things right, but this one just stands out.)

I think the flower she "produced" was actually what Agatha laid on the ground for the summoning. And later when Agatha told Rio she was too early, she meant that she hadn't gotten her powers back yet. In the first episode Agatha convinced Rio to wait until Agatha got her powers back to continue their fight.

So, here's my crackpot theory. What if Rio was Mrs. Hart the entire time? In Wandavision, someone had used a black heart to signify the Harts coming over for dinner on Wanda's calendar, but then Lilia used the same symbol as short hand for their green witch. And then it would explain a few things. It was odd that Agatha's random neighbor was going to have the magical umph to open the door when she (to our knowledge) wasn't a witch and it's been emphasized it takes 5 witches to open the door. It would explain the "I didn't know you had it in you" line with the wink to teen while looking at the corpse. It would explain Agatha's indifference to her seeming death and also Agatha's indifference to learning her correct name. And then, also, Aubrey Plaza mentioned this character shape shifting in interviews.
I get this is either a completely stupid theory or it's totally what's about to happen. haha.

"It would explain the "I didn't know you had it in you" line with the wink to teen while looking at the corpse."
🖐Agatha specifically chose Mrs. Hart to fill the role of the Green witch in her coven, because:
      1) of her green thumb. Without Mrs. Hart the coven wouldn't have been able to summon the Witches' Roads portal.
      2) she chose Mrs. Hart because she didn't want Rio in her coven.
My theory is that "I didn't know you had it in you" applies to Teen, where Agatha discovered that Teen somehow is connected to the Darkhold.

Lilia’s prediction of who would be needed in the coven had all the other names written out but the name of the sixth witch was not written out, it was simply a drawing of a black heart (the ink all the names were written in was black). Which makes sense it would be ambiguous that Mrs. Hart (given her last name) or Rio, who after Agatha mused that Rio didn’t have a heart, Rio replied “Yes I do. It's black, and it beats for you” in episode 1. But it would also make a ton of sense if a second witch had been drawn to The Hex like Agatha, and Mrs. Hart was Rio all along. Whether Rio was masquerading as Mrs. Hart or not it seems likely that Rio is actually Blackheart the offspring of Mephisto in the comics, and they may be combining Lady Death and Blackheart, or perhaps Rio is just Lady Death. Either way it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next.

    • @TrickyD

      @@jeffreycarman2185
"but the name of the sixth witch was not written out,"
🖐Lilia’s list only had 4 names:
      1. Agatha Harkness
      2. Lilia Calderu
      3. Jennifer Kale
      4. Alice Wu-Gulliver
The black heart isn't a name, but a symbol Agatha would easily recognise.
🕵‍♂Besides Teen can't be the 6th witch since he had a sigil cast on him, which makes him invisible to witches so he can't be on the list.

Great breakdown as usual :) Loved Ep4. The tension between Agatha and Rio all along the episode had me on the edge of my seat but that last scene had me malfonctioning for a whole day. No joke, I had to stop working regularly to come back to that (non)kiss scene. Because not only is it *so* well acted, but the atmosphere of the road, the lights and the soft music make it an haunting scene. Agatha is throwing herself at Rio, she is finally revealing her true feelings and desires she had bottled up for decades or centuries and Rio, obviously wishing nothing more than to reciprocate the gestue, finds the strengh to bring her back to earth. She says that one thing that Agatha needed to hear, knowing full well that would break the spell of this instant. Rio, your love for Agatha humbles us all.
I like the idea that Teen giving a branch of Baby's Breath to Sharon's grave is a reference to Rio's powers. That she may have brought Nicholas to life and that would make her his second mother. Yet she doesn't seem as affected as Agatha. Is she too wearing a mask, like Agatha usually does, and is she concealing how much his death affected her? Or is death so familiar to her that she doesn't perceive it like an end? I want to believe Rio was involved in Nicholas conception : hell yeah for magic baby Nicholas with two badass mothers ; having Rio (Death?) as your mother would certainly provide some ability preventing you to truly ever die right? Right?! That means we would still have hope!
Last observation : I don't think Rio is part of this coven. Agatha says, when the trial starts and Rio is smiling excitedly that "She is a tourist". I think she is simply sticking around to collect her bodies. Meaning she won't have a trial and that she may leave as she pleases, unlike members of the coven. Which may validate the theory that it was Rio who was with Agatha when she first completed the Road "I stray not from the path ; I hold Death's hand in mine" = so when Agatha says another witch left the Road with her last time, if she is speaking about Rio, it means nobody from her coven except her made it out alive 😅

My theory is that they were deeply in love and Agatha told Rio she was going to go for the dark hold. Rio told her it comes with a price but didn’t tell her what it was. So when she got the book at the price of their baby she disappeared without a trace and put a sigil on herself so Rio couldn’t find her and that’s why when Rio saw her for the first time she was so soft with her because her mind wasn’t there. Then when Agatha broke from the spell she was so pissed, because she hid and left her. It’s how she said “you hid behind all that magic and the dark hold but now you’re vulnerable.” Like she was pacing around waiting for her to pop back up. I don’t think she wanted to kill her in the first episode but I do think she was going to kidnap her.

Actually, burning was never the punishment for witchcraft. That is a common modern misconception with no historical basis. Witches were occasionally drowned but usually hanged. Burning was a punishment reserved for heretics. (The church's only punishment for heresy was only excommunication, but heresy was also a civil offence so civil magistrates tended to burn heretics who didn't immediately repent after their excommunication.)
Also note that witch trials were very common in pagan antiquity but mostly died out during the middle ages, because the Roman Catholic Churches official position was that witches did not exist. At the Council of Paderborn in 785 AD it was declared that the belief in witches was heresy and that everyone involved in witch hunting or witch trials that resulted in killing accused witches should be treated as common murderers. The belief in witchcraft and the prosecution of accused witches however made a major comeback during the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther and John Calvin both believed witches were real and that the old testament demanded their death. (Catholics tended to stick with the Vulgate and interpreted the word as "poisoner" instead of witch, viewing it not as anything supernatural but just murderers who used poisons instead of violence to kill.)

Lillia a woman of mystery? I think she is one of the most transparent characters in the whole group. Possibly about 400 years old. Born & raised in the Mediterranean (Italy or Sicily) just shortly before the Black Plague spread. She had a Maestra who was taken from her too early and left her without total control of her divination power; unable to stop revealing people’s unfortunate end, and thus why she kept getting chased away from village to village. Also because of her lack of control it is hard to tell about who she is talking about, when she talks about (past l, not distant future, or distant future); and I’m sure that is what she seeks in the Witches Road (control over or release from that power).

🖐If Wanda had already placed a sigil on Teen to keep his identity as Wiccan hidden, it would raise questions about the necessity of the events in *WV* and her actions in *Dr. S: MoM.*
The idea that the Darkhold tempted her with the possibility of finding her twins in another multiverse suggests that her motivations were driven by a deep sense of loss & desperation. It adds complexity to her character and highlights the emotional turmoil she was experiencing.

In the Tarot, the Death card means not just literal death but also transformation. This can be literal reincarnation, or, more likely, the painful end of something with the beginning of something new (e.g. a relationship), like the expression "When the wooden door closes, the steel door opens."

so the flower rio offers agatha is the one that agatha herself put down for the summoning spell, she didn't produce it herself. and also, agatha threw the flower away after snatching it, rio picked it up at some point and wore it in her hair during the trial (cute and gay). it was on the seat that agatha sat on, she didn't pull it from her pocket, she picked it up before sitting down.

Crazy theory, but hear me out: I don't think Rio has ever been on the witches' road before. I think the one other witch that left the witches' road with Agatha the time she walked it, was Nicholas...as a baby inside of her. I don't think she knowingly traded Nicholas for the dark hold, I think Mephisto impregnated her with Nicholas so he could claim him for himself as a powerful warlock to serve as one of his agents. I still think it's very possible that Teen is Nicholas, and that when Rio said "that not isn't yours", it wasn't because he wasn't Agatha 's son, but because his soul belongs to Mephisto. Don't even get me started on how I don't think Agatha has EVER been a villain in the MCU. If you rewatch episode 8 of Wandavision, you will see that Agatha never struck any of the witches first, she pleased with them not to attach her because she couldn't control her power, she begged them to help her, and she wasn't purposely draining their power from any of them. If you rewatch Wandavision, you'll see that WANDA was always the villain and Agatha was a sympathetic witch trying to find out what was happening to her and nudge her out of her delusions until Wanda got so out of control torturing people for her own fantasies, Agatha had no other choice but to get tough with her. Why do y'all think the people of Westview still loved Agatha and hated Wanda all those years later---enough to play along with her delusions and buy her groceries & look out for her? It's because they saw her as someone who was trying to save them, not hurt them, unlike Wanda.

💅Witch please, Agatha toyed with her tormentors because she knew full well what was gonna happen; her Darkhold gift'll kick in & destroy every witch that blasted her.
Agatha’s actions and her pursuit of the Darkhold in *WV* certainly paint her as a power-hungry witch. Her willingness to sacrifice her firstborn for the Darkhold suggests a deep-seated ambition & a willingness to go to great lengths for power.
🤔The complexity of her character makes her fascinating. While some may see her as a sympathetic figure trying to understand Wanda’s powers, others view her as a manipulative and power-hungry witch who knew exactly what she was doing.
🧠But in the end it doesn't matter what Agatha said, only her actions count and the fact that she automatically kills any witch who blasts her paints her as pure evil.

@@TrickyD I absolutely see Wanda as a villain. Edit: I am basing my AH opinion on what we have been shown so far.
Also this is going to be deeper than I wanted to think about it all but I don’t think either of them started as a villain. We don’t know what Agatha actually did in the new Marvel canon. We know what others say about her. Do we call them both morally ambiguous because we understand their behavior or are we horrified by the results of their actions? Killing Sparky: was it evil? Was there a real dog or was it another of Wanda’s constructs? Did she do it as a test to see if death really was final or if Wanda could bring back Nick? Did she actually kill the dog or did she play into the “and your little dog too” trope as a form of dark humor? Then there is the who are the mortals to witches anyway? We have no power and live decades not centuries. We are ephemeral to them to start with. Agatha took power from witches who did not deserve the power. How did this pattern of behavior begin? Was she attacked first because she was feared? How does she define “deserving of power”? She certainly seemed to see Wanda as evil and undeserving and she showed us what Wanda had wrought. Anyway, tldr. Fictional characters are a great distraction from the truly evil people in the real world.

Fully agreeing with your theorizing here.
For instance, Rio corrects "a green witch" to "THE green witch" brings to mind The Green Man, a folklore figure very much associated with Life, Death, Rebirth, Renewal and Spring. Very much how you are describing Rios character here
Also. Im sure I'm not the only one hoping Teen is connected to Wanda, and in order for that to work and make sense from a storytelling perspective, it will require a bit of set up. Especially explaining the presence of a soul and it's capacity to move. I think the story of Nicholas will give us those pieces, which would support magic being involved in his creation.
A bit of layer that is also fun, Rio is clearly older than she looks, likely older than Agatha. In Teen, Agatha and Rio you have one set of maiden mother crone, and Alice (a daughter) , Jenn (a midwife and High Priestess, a mother figure) and Liliah you have a second set

@@TrickyD not in the obvious sense no, and I agree he is probably not currently in the coven, but I think he might be before the end of the series. My personal theory is that the references to him being "underage" was not a reference to the drinking age but possibly to a magical age of reason? Also, I agree that being male is likely a factor, I suspect male witches are extremely rare and the fact that he (hopefully) will be able to become one will be relevant to his hidden identity.
His character however fully encapsulates the "bright young ingenue" trope, that is also the classic "maiden" story. A young person setting out to discover themselves full of optimism and such. Teen has all of traits, the probable story arc and age for the maiden. They refer to the stages of life of a witch rather than literal people too. I think being a boy is just a bit of misdirecting there.

🤔True, but for whatever reason it is proven that for now Teen isn't in the coven.....which might change in the future.

😁Costuming and names can be misleading, and the example of Ralph Bohner in *WV* is a perfect illustration of that. Just because a Funko-doll is named Wiccan doesn’t necessarily mean it confirms the character’s identity as Wanda’s son. Similarly, a Funko-doll named Death doesn’t automatically mean she’s Mistress💀.
😏Besides, THE bard has already proven that calling a 💩 a 🌹, won't make it stop smelling like 💩.

In spite of Agatha being popular in the Wanda show, I'm having second thoughts if it were necessary to make this spin-off.

🤓 *AAA* is crucial as the 2nd instalment in a trilogy following the characters from *Wandavision.*
What connects all 3 series is the Darkhold: in *WV* it enhanced Agatha's powers and in *Dr. Strange MoM* it corrupted Wanda, while in *AAA* Chthon wants to resurrect Wanda so he can regain his chaos magic.

🙄Nah she's a river of Advil aka a a river in Egypt aka Denial.
PS. denial is a stage in mourning like Wanda did in *WV.*
Guilt is another stage in mourning which in all likelyhood seems to be the theme in *Agatha All Along.*
🧙‍♀I'll do my impression of Lilia Calderu and predict that anger & acceptance are the themes for *Vision Quest.*

my theory is that Billy and Tommy are th e 2 halves of Nicolas scratch. Per the comment from Jen what if Nicolas was an agent of Mephisto and the demon used Nicolase's soul during Billy and Tommy's birth and when they disappeared they become reincarnated souls breaking any contract with Mephisto. Reviving into Teen. So Rio may know exactly who Teen is but may not be able to interfere.
Another interesting thought is when the twins died would Rio have come for them?

"my theory is that Billy and Tommy are th e 2 halves of Nicolas scratch."
🖐Wanda's constructs in *WV* have no souls, because if they had they could exist outside Wanda's hex and Wandavision (Wanda's vision construct) has proven that they can't exist outside the hex, simply because they have no soul.
🧠This limitation was a key plot point in the series, highlighting the extent and boundaries of Wanda’s Chaos magic. The constructs, including Vision, Billy & Teddy were bound to the hex and couldn’t survive beyond its borders, so Billy & Teddy can't be the 2 halves of Nick's reincarnated soul.
🕵‍♂Now that Wanda's dead Teen can't be a reincarnated Billy neither.

@@TrickyDWanda’s constructs have no soul, you’re right. But Billy and Tommy could’ve just been ‘taken’ souls, so maybe Wanda (subconsciously of course) took a lost/roaming soul and put it into her twins. And then when the Hex was destroyed, the souls just went elsewhere (Billy Keplan and Tommy Shepherd). In that way, Teen could be both Nicholas Scratch and Billy Keplan/Maximoff.
The theory seems far fetched, but honestly I’m almost 100% sure he’s Billy because there’s no other reason why his identity should remain a secret if he didn’t put that sigil on himself. I’m just not sure *how* he’s Billy.

"And then when the Hex was destroyed, the souls just went elsewhere (Billy Keplan and Tommy Shepherd)."
This doesn't compute; either Billy & Tommy somehow had souls and would've survived the lifting of the hex, or they didn't and stopped existing.
👉In this case mixing MCU with Marvel comics makes no sense.

I say this as a person who has had very magical friends: "He stole my magic" is shorthand for "he sexually assaulted me." I dont mean a broad concept you can say a lot of ways, I mean the EXACT phrase "he stole my magic." Sexual activity supposedly drains you in a renewable way but sexual assault is stronger, and effectively binds you. Nobody wants to touch on this subject, I think the "drowning" was either a metaphor for a darker act or maybe it just began there. If they dont narrow that down in the show at some point I'll be EXTREMELY surprised, cuz it's the most basic of magical tidbits.
