      Synth and guitar are not mutually exclusive. Holdsworth used a synthaxe way back in the 80s to enormous success. With the right tools, the guitar is still one of the best and most flexible midi controllers.

      100 % absolutely agree, I've watching lots of videos and didn't get any information about the time sampling you have
      this video just nailed it!
      wish I could find a video explaining the difference between:
      - Korg Volca
      - Akai Mpx 16
      - Novation Circuit
      - Roland SP 404SX
      - OP 10, etc....
      and making clear about the time sampling you have.
      Thanks again, a lot

      You could add one if you need it, check RUclips for mini oscilloscopes something like the ds212 onwards. If space isn't an issue older crt based scopes will work & give you very fast refresh, of course they'll be used lab equipment but better than going to waste.

    When I got tired of the synth engine of OP-Z, I started looking for some cheaper alternative. Circuit or CTracks is out of question, bc I really need a 8-track polyphonic sequencer for my other gears, so I turn to E2s. Even if I am still not sure about whether it is a right decision today, I gradually start to enjoy this machine. The workflow is drastically different, and sometimes I’m struggling on the step edit and sample postions on E2s, but the kaosillator style x-y pad is so much fun and chord/scale mode is tremendously friendly for a non-pianoist. I can tell korg would expect us to live performance or live record w/ Electribe. Hopefully Korg would combine the red and blue for the next generation, and extend the loop length to at least 8 bar.

    • @SimpleTrax

      There is an alternative firmware called Hacktribe, which combines the sampler and synth version: sampling + all the effects and synths from synth version + some new fm waves. Really easy to install if you follow the manual or video carefully. It can be installed both on sampler or synth version, installing on sample version is 1 step easier.

      They're both nice - obviously it would have been best to combine their features into one... what I have found is that different people prefer different things - which is why I made the video, to help make the decision regarding what's more important to you. I would say that if you're into shaping your own sound from scratch so much that it's more important than adding sampling, get the blue one, otherwise go red

But the band’s music is still complete without that as we have a drummer, bass player and guitar player. So if I have to incorporate some faders, waves and some synth parts, which machine would you suggest? I could borrow a sampler 2s from a friend would that help?

      Imagine something on the lines of jamiroquai n daft punk but more of the live instrument sounds n less of electronica

    This is going to sound so petty (but I can't be the only one). Why did they make the new models red and blue??? They look so cheap and tacky. The grey and black was sooooo much classier. Just my opinion.

      Agreed, and a second hand older one seems to go for more than a brand new one on ebay.

    "24 note polyphony"...... Yeah.... No.
    If you actually plan to use filters, that eats polyphony.
    If you plan to use insert effects, that eats polyphony.
    If you plan to use one of the heavier oscillator types, that eats polyphony.
    So if you actually start *using* the features it has, maybe even on more than a single sound - well, you might find yourself lucky to reach 12 note polyphony.

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 лет назад +14

      Right, effects reduce polyphony, but actually I think 12 note polyphony pretty amazing considering what you get... many grooveboxes have much less

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith 7 лет назад +1

      This was by far my biggest issue with the new Electribes. 24 voices would be great, but with so many things possibly eating into that polyphony, I was lucky to get 5-6 parts happening before I was running into voice stealing and needing to make compromises in my synth architecture. Bummer.

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith 7 лет назад +1

      Which ones have less?

    • @IUsedToBeAPygmy
      @IUsedToBeAPygmy 7 лет назад

      Exactly my issue with them and why I sold mine after 2 weeks. When I mention this the usual response I get is "well I never run into that!" making me wonder whether some people actually *use* the features of their electribe :-/

    • @IUsedToBeAPygmy
      @IUsedToBeAPygmy 7 лет назад +9

      @Loopop - the 2001 Yamaha RS7000 groovebox had 64 note polyphony for synth and 256 note polyphony for sampler parts.
      There really is no excuse for poor polyphony implementation 16 years later.
      Just for comparison - in the same time period laptops went from 256mb internal memory to 16GB internal memory, CPU speeds are more then tenfold...... But somehow Korg manages to release a groovebox with less polyphony than a 2001 machine, and the same sample time as their own 2003 Korg ESX.....

    I did the hack on my electribe 2 converting it to sampler 2 and then I
    converted it back to electribe 2. I would like to better understand the
    difference between the two machines. I would like to know which of the
    two versions might be most useful since I have a Maschine MK2 , a
    Kaossilator Pro Korg (first version) a Novinator synth Mininova, and a
    Sampler Roland SP 808 EX

    Dumb question?
    When did they upgrade the Pads?
    The black box or not until the pastel boxes.
    I was thinking of replacing my E2 with an ES2 and the black ones are a lot less on eBay. I love mine (gave up my aging mpc) but the sampler would be more useful for me on gigs. And I use mine as an input device also so I would like better pads.

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 лет назад

      Thomas L Thomas first, a disclaimer, I don't have any inside info on this... after that, yes, the metallic blue and red ones have the higher (and I think better) pads (to my knowledge...)

      Thanx for the quick answer.
      I may just go for a black one anyway.

      I love these little boxes though real work horses.

      Thomas L Thomas sure thing. Btw if you have an external midi keyboard, pad responsiveness won't matter as much. Good luck !

    Why does the Electribe 2 (synth) have an "Input Level" adjustment if there is no way to sample?

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 лет назад +1

      AJ Sorenson because you can still play, apply effects and sequence external gear with it, and it's nice that you can control the level of the external source on the Electribe itself

    They could have easily combined both and upgraded the ports but Korg is too busy making “Acoustic Synths” and remaking nostalgia synths. Korg doesn’t want my money sadly.

    hola estoy interesado en adquirir una sampler korg , pero antes podrias decirme cual es el maximo de tiempo de la muestra que se puede correr digamos se puede unas de digamos unos 10 min, e buscado esta informacion en foros pero no la encuentro, espero puedas ayudarme.. :P

      A que conclusión llegaste? Entoendo que el sampler graba 99 segundos para 1 sample, o 99 samples de 1 segundo (me parece poco) en mi caso particular con un Akai mpc 2500 grabo hasta 24 minutos de un sampler lo guardo en la memoria y puedo grabar otro de 24 (que sería una barabaridad)
      Yo me decidí por el azul. Aún no me llega, si gustas compartir tu experiencia, no encontré mucho material del e2 en español
