    Hi All! I promised to make a tutorial on how to create a pattern from scratch on the Korg Electribe 2 and here it is. I wanted to showcase some of my most favorite tips on the Electribe 2, and use them in a way that is practical and can help you do the same with your music. Let me know what you think! Hope you will enjoy this video and that it can become useful :)

    Wow this is exactly what i needed, i just recieved an electribe 2 i ordered and its the first time i ever touch any music making thingy and when i turned it on and press a button it started playing a whole song by itself, scared the shit out of me and i put it back in the box. So glad i found this guide!!! Thank you!!

    The E2 synth version gets overlooked, but it is a highly underrated synth in its own right. I use a Keystep to live play, sequence, and arpeggiate mine. When I get a sequence or arp that I like, I record it into the Electribe. You're absolutely right about the overdrive, it really beefs up the synth sounds. Combine that with the many filters available, as well as the analogue-style knobs, and it is capable of some great sonic chaos.
    Great video!

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for watching! 🙏 Totally agree, it does get overlooked and capable of some really cool stuff. Combining with Keystep sounds a like a great and clever way to get even more out of it since its internal sequencer is not the best to program I would say

    • @haolekoa737
      @haolekoa737 3 года назад +2

      @@RandomNoiseMusic You're right about the sequencer, the step edit mode is awkward at best. I highly recommend getting a Keystep, it really pairs well with the E2. The ability to switch midi channels on the fly is great, as you can set up different "patches" on the various parts & jump between them at will. The only complaint is that the E2 doesn't recognize pitch bend, but otherwise the Keystep turns it into a full-on synth. Not bad for a little over $100...

    Excellent tutorial, especially if you refuse to read the manuals. Nice tip about the arp. One of the reasons I use the E2's is the touch pad, one can actually make an entire song with just the touch pad. The only ifx I use is the delays as you can alter the sounds in other ways that won't steal voices. If you listen to the E2 on full range monitors you'll find the E2 can still compete with any digital grove box for quality of sound.

    And if so, how😁?

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching and kind words! I am afraid that the Electribe 2 doesn't really has a song mode, so it's not possible to record and store the performance on the device itself. What you could do is, create all the patterns with the different transitions and needed arrangement, and use the Chain Mode to tie them together. If you are not familiar with this method, you can check out my tutorial on that here: ruclips.net/video/7qBpot4mQC4/видео.html

    Hi I like your tutorials so much and I have a big problem, if you could please reply to this question ASAP. How to copy parts within the same pattern. For example if I have a part number 4 within the same pattern and I wanna copy it to part number 1,2,or 3, how could I be able to do that. That is one of the biggest lag for this puppy. Thanks in advance

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Год назад

      Hey, what do you mean by copy parts, like having one synth or drum sound patch on one of the parts and then copy it to another? you can use the shift+pad 13 for that. If you mean copying the bar to the rest of the bars, there is no direct function for that. What you will have to do for that is first creating your full sequence for all the parts on the first bar (you have to start with 1 bar for this to work), and then when you covered all of them you should extend the pattern to 2, 3 or 4 bars as needed. I hope this answer your questions and helps

But what made me choose the Nubass is the excellent sequencer it has, which I think is probably easier to program than the TD3 which is identical to the TB303

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  2 года назад +1

      Glad you find my videos helpful! You always have to make sure that you start with the first bar (1) and don't change the length to 4 until you finished the basic elements. You also have to make sure that you don't press the next 2,3 & 4and change something there. The Electribe will only copy from 1 to the rest if the rest are empty and you didn't change something there. I hope I am able to explain it clearly here. I sometime forget about that too and have the same problem. It's annoying problem that Korg should have solved with a way to freely copy and past the bars around but unfortunately it doesn't work like that..

    Hey. I enjoy your videos a lot. Can you explain why if i put in the sequencer the Snare(for Exemplar in pad13) and hihats(pad 14) on the same steps. You can hear just one of the pads.

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Год назад +1

      Pad 13 is usually reserved for the closed hi hat, and pad 14 for the open hi hat. Drum machines have been built in the past in a way that mimic a real drummer. If you think about it, there is only one hi hat in a drum set, and it is either can be closed or opened at one time. In more modern machine like the Electribe, or even vst softwares, you can actually choose to assign 2 or more sounds to the same group so they mute each other. So you can either choose to reserve pad 13 & 14 for the closed and opened hi hats, or you can change the settings for these pads to not mute each other. Search in the menu for ALTERNATE 13 & 14 and turn it off (I think it is page 13 in the pattern menu if I am not wrong). There is also ALTERNATE 15 & 16 option btw.

    Hi, thanks for this tutorial. It helps me get back to musicproduction after a long break. I have a question. Everything worked as you described until changing the length to 4 bars. It only copies the kick to all bars the rest is only on bar 1 and 3. Any idea how I can fix this? Thx 4 help

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  11 месяцев назад

      Thank for watching and glad to know it inspires you to make music again!
      First, you got to make sure that you start your pattern on the 1st bar (for some reason Korg made it so that its not defaulted to the first one after initializing a new pattern..)
      Now before increasing the length, create your full pattern on the 1st bar, and only after you feel like you got the basic structure, increase the length.
      The way it works it that bars are only copied from the 1st bar onwards after increasing the length of the pattern.
      Its a clunky workflow that confused the hell out of me too in the beginning, and I don't understand why Korg designed it that way instead of having a simple copy and paste method between the bars.. Hope this helps clarifying!

      Hey, thank you! Not by default, the blue version has only synth and built in samples (the red version has the sampling capability). But if you install the "Hacktribe" firmware, you can load your own sample to it.

    Really good tutorial mate. I have the sampler but most of this still applies and is really helpful. Cheers!
    Edit: Does switching to poly1 help with the envelope cutting off problem when making pads? I think I saw something about that in one of Loopop’s vids but probably didn’t understand it properly.

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching! the difference between Poly 1 and Poly 2 is that in Poly 1 mode every time you press a key it will reset the envelopes. So for example you set the envelope to control the filter in sort of way, if you hold one key and press another, that envelop will be triggered again. When you switch to Poly 2, when you press one key and then additional one, the envelope will continue without being triggered again. So this is useful in a way, but unfortunately it does not solve the issue of the synth being paraphonic, and notes will continue to cut each other... Hope I've managed to explain it right and this is useful.. 😅 thanks again for watching!

    I love your tutorials so much. I literally use this to help with the sampler version. I have a question, would you happen to know why when I switch patterns on the sampler there is an audible gap?? Do you have any remedies for this?

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  3 года назад +2

      Hey thanks for watching and really glad to know these are useful! 🙂 About your question, I am assuming it is the same thing that happens with the Synth (blue) version. I am afraid that is how this gear works, each pattern store all the settings and data, so when switching between those patterns, it is almost like it needs a millisecond to reset and load the next ones (like filters, envelopes effects etc'). Another thing is that the envelopes on both of the Electribe are monophonic, and while you can play a few notes together, the notes "cut" each other if they played one after another with a long release (decay mode). My suggestion will be to avoid pads or other long notes parts in between the patterns states, and also trying to keep similar settings between transitions. Once you get used to this idea, you start to think more carefully about how to construct your patterns, so its kind of work, but I do wish Korg had made a much better song mode.. Hope this helps!

    I wanted to make my own electribe video similar to this for a long time. I rely on the scale modes cause I don't have a clue about scales. I guess I could make 12 tone music with the chromatic scale.

    • @RandomNoiseMusic

    Fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much for posting. I’ve just got an Electribe 2 and am slowly working out what each function does. Please can you tell me what the 3 blank spaces are for in the note mode of the step sequencer? At 3.38 in the video you change the note for one of the pads in the 1st slot on the left but leave the three other slots blank. In what situation would you use these?

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  3 года назад +1

      Thank you so much! Happy to know it is useful! The blank spaces are basically extra notes you can program to the sequencer to play more than one note at a time, like a chord. So you can use that to program a chord progression for example

    Thank you very much for this tutorial, much appreciated! I have been thinking about getting the KE2 and ran into your channel (signed up right away!) while researching. I noticed you have labels on the pads. How do you use these, and, how do you decide which part is assigned to each pad (meaning, do you have a preferred setup/location for the kick, Arp, etc...)? Thanks!

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching and glad you find it useful!
      For your questions, I use the labels to help me remember the shortcuts to some of the menu items you can access by holding shift and one of the pads. You can see all those here, they are very useful and make the workflow much more easy and fast: rotten77.cz/korg-electribe/korg-electribe-shortcuts-color.png
      As for the decision on how to assign parts to pads, I got used to the default settings of the E2 in which usually the bottom raw is dedicated to drums sounds, while the top one cover all the synths. And I will usually start with the bass being on the first pad in the top raw and continue adding elements as I build the pattern. That way I can easily remember which part is which. Its not a strict rule, and I am more flexible with that sometimes, but I try to keep it consistent. Hope this answer you questions and helpful :) And thanks again for watching and the sub!

      I've heard and watched many swear by the sound of the MX. I never had one, I had the R MK2 many many years ago, but I do remember the MX when they just came out. Use to play with them in the shop. The tube do make a difference if I remember correctly. The new Electribe sounds a bit more digital I guess. There are more oscillators options with the new ones, but I think the MX did sound slightly better. The filters on the new ones are better though in my opinion.
