We take the opportunity to explore one of the oldest communities in the midlands, and there is an arts festival happening! Great timing! Ben finally gets a pro haircut, and we carry on with our foraged wine making as we bide our time until our boat yard appointment arrives.

If you are new here, hello! We're Ben (aka Benny) and Emily! We live on our 56 foot narrow boat as full time continuous cruisers with our cat Alan 🌟
Follow us along to see our adventures, ups, downs, mishaps and lots of boating about!
I love the gentle nature you both have and how you complement each other. I am 72 years old tomorrow. I have decided to downsize and buy a smaller property in my home town in Scotland that I love. My plan is to also buy a small narrow boat under 35 ft in length to travel the canals in England. My life philosophy is to be “ a tramp with a home”! This way I can achieve both. Your RUclips clips have inspired me. I connected deeply with Benny’s contemplation about visiting the towns and country side by boat. Thank you both so much for sharing your lives with us
aw Alan is so cute pawing Ben for more affection lol.
You 3 travelling troubadours are fast becoming my favourite narrowboat vloggers. Thanks for being such good people to watch.
Thank you for watching!
I spent ‘59-‘61 at RAF Burtonwood and RAF Alconbury in England as an US Air Force dependent. I just loved the country scenery. My favorite thing to do was to go down to the local fish and chips shop. Oh they were so good. Love your videos.
That craft fair looked amazballz!
Hi my name is Annie, Rosemary is my other name. I want to live on a n/b, but I'm 61 single n skint apart from the fact I could sell my small un-mondernised 2 bed terrace to fund my boat move. Alot of stuff needs consideration, ain't no plain sailing really is it, any advice from anyone out there would be good. I think I could do it, adventure n all that, bored in house, bored in town n Street n love nature n bla bla bla, I guess il just stay put n bored, n dry n safe n let my dream fade away haha, oh dear. Canal life looks so cool, well done Ben n Emily x
Benny's brief wartime Britain hair. Another lovely episode.
Hey thanks for watching! Yes hopefully that's as short as my hair will be for some time now...
@@BenandEmily It made for a great bit of entertainment. Bingo Harry is not a short haired person, huh? 😄 ...I reckon, if you supplement your weekly episode with amusing shorts, with stuff not found within your weekly episode, you would really increase your sub growth rate. 😁
What a lovely journey through pparts of England that we normaly do not see tha k you keep safe
The old church was fantastic' and commentary was an added bonus.
Christ on a bike - the HAIR!
Alan looks like she has a very chilled out life. She’s a lucky girl 😊
Okayyyy, here are all kinds of neat fix-its and makings and doings, including the store shelves, and some elderberry wine And good Alan too on night patrol
I'm loving your videos very much, thank you. Thatch cottages have to be re-thatched about every 20 years. We have lots on the Isle of Wight, but no canals sadly ✌️❣️
pre-wine fruit juice is called a 'Must'!
Ahhh!
Great video I’ve lived in alrewas all my life
Emily you look lovely with your hair
I think this vid is my fave!! You both are absolutely adorable!! Witty, funny & heartfelt. I caught myself giggling and smiling the whole way through.
I am loving Benny’s ever changing hair adventures 😁
Thank you for sharing your lives with all of us, you make it feel like we are one big happy family traveling alongside the 3 of you ☺️💕
Can’t wait for the next vid!!
Love & blessings!!
Thanks so much for joining us on our travels, so glad you enjoyed this weeks! 🥰
Heheh, yes Benny's hair adventures!... There's definitely more of that to come 😆 XX
I agree!
Uhhh, that hair cut is good! It,s in keeping with a musician!
My grandchildren have renamed thatch cottages as Teabag houses 😎😎😎
That is a very creative description!
Infinitely better viewing than Laura Kuenssberg on a Sunday morning and a whole lot more informative. Thanks for de stressing my day guys. Paul is such a cool cat!
Thanks so much for watching! Alan doesn't mind being called Paul btw 😸
@@BenandEmily has she had a nip or two?
Hello again from the foothills of Mt Rainer, Washington state. Always good to see you 3 sharing your life with us. Blessings positive thoughts and prayers dear family. 😻
Thank you so much 😊 It makes us very happy to share positivity into the world, we really appreciate you coming on our journey with us!
@@BenandEmily I just adore you sharing your life with us, I worked on the ocean a good part of my life. I always enjoy watching you both create things and you don't allow anything to stop you from pushing through. And Allen is so adorable too 💐♥️
It’s good to see the younger generation keeping up the brewing tradition.l used to brew my own apple wine for people that swaggered in a machismo way .A pint would put them out for about an hour .
😆 Sounds powerful!!
Congrats on your second place showing at the Great Morris Dancerama.
Another Saturday made oh so much better. Love your vids guys. Me and my wife (Emily) are looking to move onto a Boat just like yours in the coming years. You are only reinforcing our dreams. Thankyou.
Hi Ryan, so glad we can help to inspire you 😊 thanks for watching our video, and good luck with it all!
@@BenandEmily Thank you so much! :)
'Just re-watching & enjoying your videos again & I'm laughing at Benny's random 'Alrewas, Alreis, Alrewill-be' ... oh & Emily's 'Thatched Cratch' hahahaha, brilliant 😜👍
😄 Thanks for RE-watching!
@@BenandEmily Hello & Thank you for posting them 🙂.
Your content is an uplifting alternative to Netflix, though tonight I'm looking forward to watching Enola Holmes 2 😜 x

Aww thank you! I do like a bit of Donovan, though only recently discovered him..
Boyband Benny rockin the streets, cracks me up! Another fab episode guys
😃
We recently discovered your vlogs and are really enjoying them. Shame we didn't find you earlier as we live near the Rochdale Canal in Calderdale.
Next time you are in Arlewas, go to the National Memorial Arboretum. It is extremely moving. Keep it up. We hope to be living out on the cut in a couple of years.
When I was a teenager I used to brew home brew beer. I'd brew up around 8 gallons at a time, I'd put 4 Gallons in a plastic sherry cask and 4 gallons in flagon bottles. Each day I would go into the shed and let off some of the gasses. One day I forgot to do that and the following morning my Dad said to me, "I dont know what was going on in the shed last night, but there was the sound of glass beeing smashed. I went down the shed and I was met with the sherry cask, which was nolonger square but round and jamed under the work bench, there was glass shards stuck in the bench legs and beer everywhere. I spent some very nervous time loosening off the stoppers on the remaining intact bottles and trying to get at the tap on the sherry cask to let the gas out of that. After that little escapade I bought myself some demijohns and fermentation locks.
Great Video...See you again soon !!
I am so liking your vlogs so much that you are jumping the que of the normal boat vlogs that i watch lol xx
So glad you like them! thanks so much! :D x
Emily you don't need to do your hair you look beautiful and you are a proper boater👍

Such enjoyed watching this vlog ..so calm and pretty country🌻
Thank you for an absolutely delightful episode. I am sat with a mug of tea early Sunday morning watching your activities of daily living and it has brought a broad smile to my face and a feeling of well-being a great antidote to national news in recent days. Have a relaxing and fruitful day I look forward to a top up next week.
Thanks so much Paul! :)
Nice one guys, thanks for another great vlog. Nice to see Alan getting some fuss from her "dad". 😀
First time I have watched. Very much enjoy the vibe. Love the making something out of what you have. One of my joys in life. 😄
Always boat work to be done. Great seeing the area.
From Kentucky, U.S.A. I just found you. Your cat looks like one of my all favorite pets, "KIKI".
Benny all dapper 😄👍
It's a different look for me, that's true!
I liked his hair long haha
Me too.. 😄
I'm not planning on another trim for quite some time hehe 😊
@@BenandEmily 🤣👍
Ben looks so much like a young Jeremy Irons.
Lovely vlog, varied and interesting trip around one of my fav canal villages. Nice haircut Ben😃❤️😊

Great video as usual, loved the thatched cottages in Alrewas. Nifty bit of woodworking Benny. Look forward to next video.take care.
Lovely, I have to admit the canal lifestyle seems very appealing to me and y'all make it look even more so.
Just watched Evolution on Bingo’s channel! Love me some jinsey too.😁 Daily greet!

or, if you can sing, " By The Window " I will gladly help you out.
I don't know them songs, but will endeavour to check them out!
Benny! Alrewas, Alreis, Alrewill be!! Brilliant! Another lovely vid, and another place on my list to visit! So charming
I do like to play on words, if the mood takes me 😊 thank you so much, and thanks for watching 😊
@@BenandEmily Actually Benny, this was almost a quote from the Christian "As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, Amen"!!
Nice to see you guys!
Hello! :)
The saga of Benny’s disappearing hair. I like the new hair cut, & as you said, it will grow. Emily you look marvelous all the time even when Benny is at his most dapper ☺️. Allen is quite the character. Love her her patting Benny on the arm. Oraowas looked like a great place to walk around, though I was anxious to see you both doing the alpaca and goat walking. 🐐 🦙 Great video, music, editing, and narration. Looking forward to your next Vlog. Thanks for sharing. 🙏😊🤗 Kathy
Thanks so much Kathy! The saga is done now, it can grow in peace.. Yes we missed the Alpaca walk sadly as we totally ran out of water, but want to meet some Alpacas soon! Thank you for watching! 😊
@@BenandEmily thank you both for a truly unique channel. 😊
I’m making blueberry’s and brandy liquor and local blackberrys and rum thing ;) so if you will near Bradford let me know I will share with you both xxx
Sounds good, thank you : )
I got short back and sides I'll be singing that all week haha, wow that village looks lovely hope you 3 are good
Hehehe, yep its been stuck in my (Emily) head since! 😅
Hey guys 🍻
Lynn on Hubby's phone mines playing up 😏, WOW ! Loving the hair cut Benny 😍😹,, my Hubby managed to cut a few chunks out of his during lock down , but his got it now and saves himself a packet not bothering with the barbers 😂😂🤣👍, Aw it's a shame about your boat shop , as a crafter myself I was looking forward to seeing that , never mind , maybe in the future 🤔, I do Love your episode's it's so calming 🤗, wouldn't mind a taste of all the posions you've got brewing 😂😂🤣, Thanks for taking us around the craft market , loved that 😊👍, Take Care You Two xx oh one for Alan X
Thanks so much Lynn, yeah maybe we will change our minds in the future about the shop :) Take care x
My goodness Ben looks like Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient with that hairdo x
Well that is a compliment, cheers Christine!
Love your tour of one of our favourite villages! We are watching from the exact same mooring spot by the church. Couldn’t believe there was a space sat there waiting for us at 5.30pm on a Saturday 😂
Heheh! No way! Yes it got really busy around there! Such a great spot, we've headed back through now and there wasn't 1 space through the whole of Alrewas! xx
You could use a bunje staip to hold it
I’m going to ask for that cut on my next trip to the barbers, I’ll have the short back and sides please.
Hi both, I'm new to your channel, I love watching it. Look forward to the next episode oh and I love davenport the cat xx
Hello! Aw thank you so much for watching 😊
Funny you should mention making things,I’ve just made a wood store from a couple of pallets 😃 hair looks great by the way Ben
Pallets are the best!! :D Thanks Shane
When I was due for my hair cut I eoild whisper to the barber a trim please then my dad would shout I heard that it's a short back and sides ,you can have any cut you want when you are paying for it
Bro, keep the short hair style, trust me.
Love u both ❤
😊
well that was weird, just spotted my stall in the background.....at 13.07....glad you enjoyed your time in Alrewas, its a lovely village with a great community feel
Ah wow brill!
Hi Ben and Emily,
I am really interested in listening to a full version of several of your songs in these videos.
I’m aware that you have various albums of your work available, however I was wondering if you have any videos that include - a list in the description of included songs, or the song title displayed upon the screen?
If you have a video like this, please could you let me know?
I’d be incredibly grateful.
All the best to you both and lots of love to Alan.
Thanks.
Glad you said you are going to compensate by dressing out a bit, that’s far too conservative, long live the flowing locks (from a folically challenged gentleman
oh no...... another narrowboat hair vid......and the oscar goes to.......
Fun to follow your route with my marked-up Waterways World guide from our cruise 30 years ago in 1992. Looks like we cruised right past Alrewas without stopping.
Ah really, that's impressive that you still have it 😊
@@BenandEmily That's nothing; I still have all my maps and guides from our first UK cruise in 1981 on the Shroppie and Llangollen.
@@apollo11guy oh wow! That's so nice you still have them 😊
I never add yeast to my wild foraged wine.. there is enough natural yeast on the fruit..
Love the hair cut Benny. I must have a walk round that village, it’s fairly near where I live, I’ve driven through it loads of times but I’ve never walked around the actual village. Alan is such a cute cat, how did you come to choose that name for her? Thanks for another lovely vlog. Take care you 3. X
Its very worth a visit! :D Alan is named after Alan Rickman, i think we explain near the end of the boat tour video 😁 Thanks so much for watching! x
Why is your female cat called Alan ? I love your blog and I am tempted to move back from Spain and buy a narrowboat.
I'm loving your channel - I have visited quite a few of the places where you have been. Does Ben realise he looks exactly like King Alfred in The Last Kingdom?!
I didnt realise, let me find his face so I can decide if I do haha..
Benny some of your music reminds me of Daevid Allen .
That's funny because some of the art that was in the boat when we moved on looks like one of his album covers!
Well, thanks! That was refreshing, not least because you didn't mention a certain now ex-royal person, even once...RIP.
Alrewas is such an evocative name. It sounds like a fictional place, or a name spelt backwards. Thanks for explaining its background and showing us a bit of the festival. Don't you get paranoid about Alan getting lost or just going off? Cats are so independent. I've subscribed!
kjh789az you doughnut, this viv was recorded in August, before the Quern died.
@@evelynsutton4411 Quern ? You doughnut. Viv? you doughnut. Right back at ya. Doughnut.
@@kjh789az So l made a couple of typos. At least l listen and take in what the lovely Emily says.
Hi Alan is a cautious cat so never goes too far, but that doesn't stop us worrying! Alrewas had a lot of interesting history so we thought we should share a little of it!
Curious if the shelves Ben made would hold more plants in the future , would you have to remove them to travel? Watching you three has given me ideas on what I would try if I was so lucky to acquire my own canal boat. Thank you.
Ahhh nice idea! Unfortunately we would have to take them off every time we move. I think some people have plants hanging down the sides though!
That thatched cottage at the start is for sale…
have identical cat /camo /name is
It is actually pronounced Arlwas
hooks and bungees for the Mattress ?
Thanks Mick :) The little bracket things are working well so far :)
Love ❤️ your adventures 😊but I really hope you don’t give Alan veggie bacon 🥓!! She needs meat 🍖 xx
Thanks so much for watching! So happy you're enjoying our videos 🥰 No worries, Alan eats cat food 😻 x
How come Emily, always opens locks?
Hi Doug, I don't always do the locks, usually it's about 50/50. Lately i've wanted to do more so i get a bit of exercise, i've been sat down too much of late! :)
Sorry Alan, don’t know who Paul is.
😆
A tad Waffen. Don't shave the beard and leave a bit of a tash
