Same here, my windows 2 days ago started recognizing and showing mic icon from the game, but when i press any buttom i still can't talk to my mates and to ghost in lobby.
Finally, it works!! Fixing the voice recognition, fixed my mic in the game for me!! :D Thanks a lot for the video. I've watched other videos & nothing solved my problem except yours! :D Now I can be a ghost hunter with my friends this Wednesday! :)
If the "Choose the language you speak with your device is greyed out you need to go to "Luanguage & region" and select "Windows display language" to the language you want to use (if you have a foreign windows display language selected).
Thank you so much, after adding the voice package it finally works after literally trying everything else, fresh install on OS drive, messing with voice settings.... It shouldn't be this hard to fix, especially since a lot of people do not want to mess with Windows settings
Thank you so much bro, this helped immensely, I found out that my native language basically blocked off a lot of the features needed for Phasmophobia to pick up my mic, set everything to English US, and now everything is running perfectly, finally able to play this amazing game. subbed and liked of course ;)
i tried everything up to the point of moving it to my hard drive. Once I moved it from my USB external drive to my internal one it finally worked. Not sure if that was the final step needed or a combination of previous ones but at least it is finally done! Thank you for the video!!!
i found out that Voice recognition does NOT Work on windows 7 or lower , you have to have Windows 10 to be able for it to work , you will be able to use the Ingame team com , but not the ghost unless you have windows 10 if you have windows 10 but stil doesnt work , you might have to look into installing the English speech language pack
When i open speech settings i can't add anything to speech language, it's greyed out. The computer language is not English. I downloaded the English voice pack but it's still greyed out. Do i change the whole language of the computer or something? Edit: Solved, it seems you have to go to language options and add english as a preferred language and check it as the default application language. When i restarted the computer and went to speech language again it finally wasn't greyed out and it was English.

This is an absolute nightmare for someone who isn't comfortable messing with the settings on their computer. They need to fix it or I will have to trade it in for another game. I've never been so frustrated 😭
i mean my friend hear me when im talking to voice chat yea like i hold V and i talk something my friend can hear me but when i want to test voice recognition it dont respond like it is not saying We heard you ! just nothing ....
Same here, you're friends can hear you, but when you try talking to the ghost, it wont respond, like when using the ouija board, you ask "where are you" it wont work, but when my friends does it, it works

It didnt work but I found a fix that might work for some: Settings > Time & language > Language: then I had to click on english (USA) and then settings and in those settings I had to click download on Speech since it wasnt downloaded for some reason. Maybe this will help you, it fixed it for me

You helped my game work out. However, the game test doesn't see my mic as working, but when I go in with my husband he can hear me. So I would suggest that if you try all of these things, be sure to test the game with a friend to make sure that it's working properly before trying something else.

For people who can't add anything to speech langueage - Add English language to your PC in language settings ( You dont need to have PC in enligsh, just add it as a option for pc) and then restart pc. After restart you will be able to set language in speech settings. Also dont forget to check first box under this setting.
Tried everything, and it finally worked. Not sure if it was this, but it worked after I changed the windows language to english. It could either be that or installing an english voicepack. I'm from Norway so naturally nothing was installed for english users when I bought the computer Hope this helps someone!

the game does not detect my microphone. When an application uses its microphone, the microphone picture comes out at the bottom right, but that picture does not.

The game hears me, but the party can't. The game acknowledges my microphone, however the party is unable to communicate with me. I can however hear them. Is there a fix for this?
It won't let me connect to my headset mic its stuck on my stationary mic I put the headset mic into the game I can see it in Phasmo settings I even put it on my pc and tried unplugging the Stationary mic and it still won't connect to any other mic but that one even if my other mic works just fine everywhere else I even tried my VR headset mic also didn't work

Simple fix, it worked for me. Go to settings, time and langauge (mine is in danish, so i directly transalated it), then langauge, then download english USA at the bottom, restart and see if it works. It worked for me, hope it works for you

Still randomly doesn't work. Voice recognition works for everyone, but one of us randomly has no voice chat in the game itself. So we enter the game and at least one of us is muted per game and can't be heard, but the game/radio/etc can still hear us, but no in game chat. Been 6 months and still dealing with this.
If your mic is not detected, and none of these solutions works for you, but your mic is working on discord and window itself, then fret not. It will work perfectly upon playing the game. I have the issue and give up on making it work on the test, I just played the game, and it works perfectly PS: Credit to the random person on google for making me play the game by disregarding the mic test. I have not had my Mic to work once in game. Everytime I talk to a Ouija board it doesn't work yet it works fine in game to talk to everyone. I've gotten 50 or so boards and hasn't worked
For anyone having the speech thingy grayed out just do this: Select your country and language to USA and restart your computer! This should fix it. (It worked for me)

So, question for you. For some Steam VR users, you are required to run Steam VR as admin in order to get it to load properly. Is there a fix for this, or a way to get phasmo to recognize voice with admin on? Because otherwise no matter what I do I cannot use spirit box when playing in VR.
I fixed my problem not listed here ( more or less not listed ) , I have not run Steam as administrator so that was not my issue, but actually was running Phasmophobia as administrator, so don't run the game as administrator as well. Your welcome! :)

People can hear you, but the ghosts don't understand what you say to them. You can try to use ouija, probably nothing will happen :)

Moving the phasmophobia folder to C Drive worked for me. Thanks man I've been trying to fix it for hours.

My microphone works perfectly but if i turn on the Spirit box outside and then i enter in building it won t work anymore until i restart the game

For me, it was the language used in windows. Austria German doesn't support mic, while Germany German (^^) does :D

Guys 1 thing could be that you have push to talk on! If you wanna turn it of then go to settings in game and pc settings..

Did it work once you updated? I realized I was on version 1909 and had updates, and I’m updating rn. Everything else hasn’t worked so I’m just curious
I have not had my Mic to work once in game. Everytime I talk to a Ouija board it doesn't work yet it works fine in game to talk to everyone. I've gotten 50 or so boards and hasn't worked
For anyone having the speech thingy grayed out just do this:
Select your country and language to USA and restart your computer! This should fix it. (It worked for me)
What If I can't add any voice packages? it says that it can't download it, try again later. My pc is in polish and voice recognition for this language isn't availible.
Did everything you said, my mic still isn't working. My microphone works everywhere and in every game i play, but not in Phasmophobia. It just suddenly stopped working today.. Please help me out
my one says it’s using the front panel of my laptop and when i connect my mic there is no other option, it’s only the panel. it’s so frustrating
So, question for you. For some Steam VR users, you are required to run Steam VR as admin in order to get it to load properly. Is there a fix for this, or a way to get phasmo to recognize voice with admin on? Because otherwise no matter what I do I cannot use spirit box when playing in VR.
I fixed my problem not listed here ( more or less not listed ) , I have not run Steam as administrator so that was not my issue, but actually was running Phasmophobia as administrator, so don't run the game as administrator as well.
