I feel you, its one thing to do your own gun but stepping out and taking on customers is another level. As always stoked to see the work you are doing and really dig the videos.

Appreciate it man! Yeah I mean I also make good money as an engineer and my job is pretty sweet. Another good way to ruin a hobby is to do it for a living. This is really fun for me and I want to keep it that way. I'll machine guns for friends or whatever becuase they will be more patient and understanding if i fuck it up, and I'll replace it if i screw it up. Always appreciate you watching and commenting man! 🤙

@@EngineersArmory problem is now you’ll have to pick up some more guns so you can cut holes in them. Suddenly you have another way to justify buying things 😉

@@ACxREAL 😂 Haha buddy I got more porting jobs on the way dont you worry. Lots more guns that are candidates. One for a friend, one for my dad. More friends that want it done. I wont run out of options. I however did buy a new gun that will get ported hahaha

Loving these port it yourself... if you're a machinist videos. Solid info and numbers. Keep them coming! I'm sure there will be people that are willing to risk slide and barrels for you to do content on of you're doing out for low cost to them (when you run out of handguns to port) or do VS videos.

Glad you're enjoying em! They are one of my fav videos to make. I still have plenty of pistols to port. And I got a couple buddies who own a lot of guns like me and are sending me their stuff. But you make a good point! People might send me their slide and barrel to be ported for content. And the more I do, the better I get, and the less risk there is hahaha!

I appreciate that man! I'm cheating a little. My dad is a retired machinist and he helps a little... makes sure I dont make any really big mistakes haha. These are fun projects for us to do together.

What's type of iron sights are on the gun?

    • @EngineersArmory
      @EngineersArmory  7 месяцев назад

They are from Dawson Precision. The front one is for the factory M&P dovetail. When I had the slide milled for an optic, they cut a Glock dovetail in the back, so the rear sight is for a Glock MOS.

Nice vid. Is porting just a QOL thing to reduce felt recoil? I often hear "gets back on target faster" due to less lift, which is true... BUT if I'm not mistaken, regardless of how high guns lift, they seem to all avg returning back to battery in .06s.... which kinda makes angles of lift a moot point don't you think?

Oh it for sure makes the pistol more pleasant to shoot. So yes it is a quality of life thing. The rest of your question kind of gets into that competition shooting realm which I am not familiar with but I'll put my $.02 in as I have shot a number of ported pistols now.
So the slide cycles in much less time than it takes the muzzle to get back on target, also a good shooter can probably get the trigger reset and prepped to shoot again before the muzzle settles back on target. So that means the limiting factor of how fast the next shot can be taken is the time it takes to get back on target. With ports, the muzzle lifts less, so your dot or irons will settle back on target quicker. So I would argue it is of a performance benefit to experienced shooters, and allows them to get back on target and make follow up shots faster.
I think ports or compensators push you into open class in a lot of competitions, presumably because they provide a significant benefit. That's where you gotta be the best of the best to place well.
I think your number of .06 seconds for slide cycle time (~60 milliseconds) is about right. I've never been able to pull a pistol shot split time on a shot timer quicker than .10 seconds. And I know my sights werent on target I was just spraying bullets Haha. So the fastest I can possibly pull a trigger is still roughly 2x slower than the slide cycles. To actually get back on target is slower than that, maybe .12-.14seconds on a good day. I'm not an expert shooter here. So again, I think the limiting factor in quick follow up shots for me personally (and I would argue most shooters) is the time for the sights to settle back on target.
I hope that makes sense and partially answers your question. Maybe I just rambled off on a tangent.
I would check out The Humble Marksman's RUclips channel. He is a very experienced competition shooter and I know he has some videos comparing ported and compensated guns.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

Your porting looks similar to the Glock G17C Gen4. I just purchased a new one (5-2024)
    That's a beautiful P01
Did you also mill out the grip panel for the thumb rest ?
    Very Nice results 👍
