May be we should close down all opera houses and play these masterpieces in semi staged concert versions. Much public money would be saved in doing so. Also the out of job opera directors may be forced to channel their labours into more beneficial activities than to sabotage great works.
Cue the derisive comments from the opera claque (see below)--ho hum. I for one appreciate any artistic attempt to think, work and create outside the box. After all, that is what Wagner did in the first place. Not every attempt is a hit, and many are indeed misses, but every genuine effort is to be applauded. Armchair critics, begone--off to Nibelheim with you!
Remember how much the Patrice Chereau Ring was villified? Now it is regarded favorably and stands the test of time, especially when compared to this trash.
@@moragkerr9577 First, the German titles were on the original stream so I have no control over them. Secondly, I manually added the English titles and do not have the capability of making them optional. If you are that bothered, I suggest you watch for the original streams on Stuttgart's website in the upcoming season so you will only be annoyed by the German titles.
@@gslazar It was only a suggestion, maybe to save you time. Indeed, it is the combination of both titles that is a bit annoying, and as you say you can't do anything about the German ones. I don't know how to find Stuttgart's web site or when to watch or anything, really. It was so much easier when you could just pay them a bit of money and get a set of DVDs with all the titles and so on optional at the click of a button!
@@gslazar Goodness, that is extraordinarily kind of you. Is it actually possible? How do we go about it? I should have added a special thank you for doing all this and making the streams available. I confess I'm not expecting to like this much. I didn't like the previous Stuttgart Ring, except for the Rheingold which I really enjoyed. This seems even further out there. However I seem to have started collecting video (DVD and online streaming) versions of Ring cycles during lockdown and I'm still going. Nineteen complete cycles and counting (one on the way, a friend is bringing me DVDs transferred from videotape). Also thirteen single operas where the rest of the cycle in question isn't available. Nevertheless there always seems to be something to get out of even the most bizarre take on the work, and I keep doing it! Perhaps it's a form of masochism. Thank you again for your kind offer.
Why do these theatre directors mock Wagner? And why do the artists commit to it? In Bayreuth and elsewhere? It might be wise to alter some of his regieanweisungen a little bit here and there but this is a affront! If you don't like Wagner, don't stage his works! This is offensive!
Most directors are left wing and have the (mistaken) idea that Wagner was a pre-nazi character. So they go at great lenghts to degrade and ridiculise him and his works.
Goran Juric plays a magnificent Wotan. Leigh Melrose has a very light voice for Alberich, being a Bass-Baritone. He doesn't boom like Ekkehard Wlaschiha or Franz Mazura did.
In adding the titles, I used exactly the same method when exporting. However Das Rheingold was from a live stream but Die Walkure was only available VOD. The original stream was canceled most likely due to Covid but was still recorded for the later VOD.
Musique sublime !!! Très bonne interprétation !!!! Par contre ,décors et mise en scène absolument ridicules !!! Pauvre Wagner , il ne mérite pas de telles absurdités !!!!
I love how they spared no expense on the costumes and props.
......what props?? What costumes?

Poor Wagner 😥
😂
I have rarely seen a better arguement in favour of concert performances of Wagner.
There was time long ago, where performances in Stuttgart were controversial, but not trash

🤦♀
Wagner would have never wrote the opera if he knew that it would be performed like this.
You’re goddamn right.
This production of DAS RHEINGOLD would no doubt cause Wagner to turn over in his grave.
Many thanks for the upload of Walkure and Rheingold
I will add the Siegfried and Gotterdammerung assuming they are streamed next season and I have had the time to add English titles.

DAS CELLPHONE
1:35:20 A snake wearing a dinner jacket. How is this possible? Snakes have no shoulders.
Just throw out the characters, trash the composer's intent, sing the score badly, and show the world how you can trash what you don't understand.
Perhaps that should be a serious explanation or statment to germany, Wagner, the old religions, the german history ...?
@@susannevollmer2347 Perhaps you could reword that so we can understand what you mean.

These particular artists commit to it because they suck and so have no choice if they want to work...
Thank you a lot. Perhaps I will go to Stuttgart to see it.
I would so love to go to Stuttgart.

One reason why the public prefer semi staged versions of the Ring.
An interesting take on this opera. I like the reveal of Freia’s and Fasolt’s forbidden love.
Wtf!!!??? Music is Das Rhinegold...setting is Carnivale!
This Loge with his mannerism is awful to listen.
I can be totally captivated and convinced by outrageous and thoughtful takes on Wagner's works--but this is truly pathetic. Amateur hour.
Shame on the stage "directors" who misuse Wagner's name and music for nonsense like this. It is a mirror for the sickness of our society.
Grotesque!
Its a result of nepotism in the field of opera, and certainly not an example of the neo-avant-garde.

Some of y’all really don’t get how black box theatre works.
I'm afraid to ask what black box theater is in this context. Is Erda portrayed as some 1970s blaxploitation Cleopatra Jones character?
@@bronxbearbud272 black box theatre is when you perform a play with minimal-to-no sets, costumes or props

In opera, we call it ‘concert performance’.
