The Jerk has been my all time favorite movie since it first appeared in theaters! I still make use of its many quotes in everyday conversation. “Social responsibility” has no place in comedy. Mel Brooks said he wouldn’t be able to make Blazing Saddles in today’s political environment. That’s tragic. I’ll bet that cut scene with Bill Murray was hysterical.
It probably wasn't that great and that's probably why it wasn't in the film. No one take about political correctness in 1979 so very unlikely it was cut for that reason.
Blazing Saddles WAS progressive and socially responsible. Social responsibility does not mean don't upset anyone, as your distaste for the concept shows

It certainly wasn't a public controversy since no one ever heard of this story. Certainly didn't spark any activist discussions. Probably a few people behind the scenes talked about it. Most likely it was cut because it wasn't funny enough to be in the film. No one was acting politically correct in 1979.

"...the portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters on film?" The film was released on 1979. The acronym, LBT, did not exist until the Eighties and didn't become LGBTQ+ until even later. More accurately, they were worried about the portrayal of gays and lesbians on film.
Actor Richard Ward played Nathan's Father? LOL. Ward, as is not stated here, was a good character actor, who was in many movies & TV Shows & was The Original Captain Doby (yes, there was no E) in The Pilot Episode Of what would become Starsky & Hutch, with Actor Bernie Hamilton coming in to play him in The Series. Novacaine was a good one but you never showed the scene that was supposedly cut scammer
Hardly anyone cared about the gay community when the Jerk was made. They likely cut the scene because it wasn't that funny and didn't advance the story.
The controversial canned scene was Bill Murray as a flamboyantly gay decorator. Let's not offend the homosexual demographic, but it's fine to offend everyone else. In fact, let's put a picture of Steve Martin with his pants around his ankles on the movie poster.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I am glad they cut Murray. I never liked him as a comedian.
Interesting, may we ask why?
Groundhog Day is the BEST movie of the 90's, bar none!
@@bobbymoore5249 try watching Murray in The Razors Edge. Murray got the studio to do that film in exchange for him agreeing to Stripes, or Ghostbusters? It was a dramatic role and he did very well. Also, the film where he tries to go back to women he’s wronged and he faces all the women he’s hurt, Broken Flowers. Like many type-cast celebs, Murray isn’t free to just make what he wants, control editing, etc.
What a waste of time....
Parenthood

Another fake, scam site - avoid
You didn’t show the scene, which makes you a coward.
6:28 That's how long this Wikipedia style video takes to get to the point. The "controversial" scene was of Bill Murray being gay - and possibly cut because it just wasn't funny? 🤔
There. I just saved you 6.5 minutes of wasted time.
You're welcome! 😸
Terrible movie..............
wtf? I get yelled at for 8 minutes and don't even get to see the scene? Something that could have been 35 seconds, is ... awe screw it, I'm blocking this channel
i want to do the same thing. but how do you block a channel?
Nothing about Rob Reiner's Cameo? Major Fail. Go back to flipping burgers.
