I think it'd be cool to see where many rock bands got their names
I've heard a few stories and thought it was definitely fun trivia.
You got me.
The title "The Controversial Scene That Was Cut from the Jerk" led me to believe I was going to actually see the "Scene". WRONG.
thanx for the heads up
Oh, you don'y even SHOW THE SCENE that was cut. Yay.
Thanks. Got less than halfway through and figured the gig was up so came looking. Didn't have to look far. Thanks again.
Normally I'd be pissed if I watched the entire video only to realize the lie, but this is a great movie and fun to see the overview.
Bill Murray was cut from the movie, as it says, but wow, buried the lead example of the century.
Thanks. Not going to watch it and I'll remember that FactsVerse can't be trusted - so don't bother watching their vids.
I pride myself on never being scammed but I can’t believe I was just scammed out of 7 minutes and 28 seconds of my life that I’ll never get back. Besides being completely misleading based on the title and cover image, the whole video was done terribly. Also sounded like it was being voiced by a computer. Actually that’s not even true, with AI, computers sound much more lifelike than this did.
Thx for sparring me
Agree.
Thanks I'm out...too baf@@ArsonistArborist
Bernadette Peters, Good God! What a gorgeous, talented woman.
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great evening!
Excellent Singer .Stage and Class Act.. Beautiful as well.
I was 14 when this movie came out and I fell in love/lust with Bernadette Peters.
@@laudanum669 Yeah, I'm about your age, and Bernadette Peters is now 75, and I would do her without hesitation.
@@LG4K4K Wait. She has hair?!? I never really noticed. Next you're going to tell me she has eyes.
“Social responsibility” has no place in comedy. Mel Brooks said he wouldn’t be able to make Blazing Saddles in today’s political environment. That’s tragic. I’ll bet that cut scene with Bill Murray was hysterical.
It probably wasn't that great and that's probably why it wasn't in the film. No one take about political correctness in 1979 so very unlikely it was cut for that reason.
Blazing Saddles WAS progressive and socially responsible. Social responsibility does not mean don't upset anyone, as your distaste for the concept shows
@@jyjjy7 You need to update your dictionary. That movie couldn’t be made today.
@@pamcornelius9122 Update my dictionary how?? And exactly what in the movie would make it impossible to make today? Blazing Saddles is pretty tame compared a lot of comedy that has come since. Things like Chappelle Show and South Park are OUTRAGEOUS in comparison for a few obvious examples. Just because someone says something doesn't mean it is true, you are falling for a false narrative that isn't hard to see through.
@@jyjjy7 And Blazing Saddles was progressive in its day.

I love the scene wherre M. Emmett Walsh' PI finally catches up to the Jerk, and the Jerk takes two pieces of wood and hold them up against the PI as a cross! 😂
The Jerk has been my all time favorite movie since it first appeared in theaters! I still make use of its many quotes in everyday conversation. In college classes (and other group settings), whenever we were asked to INTRODUCE ourselves, I often started with, "I was born a poor black child." It was a great ice-breaker and consistently got laughs. Sadly, nowadays, some folks take offense to that line.
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
to me, to say that is basically nothing without the set up line. the _whole_ line is: "I started out out at the bottom - I was born a poor black child."
Why did'nt you show us the scene?
You got that right. Sadly nowadays we are witnessing the growth of a lot of idiotic morons who only want those they hate attacked.
L.A. Story is my favorite Martin film.
I also enjoyed "The Jerk" and think Bernadtte Peters deserved an Oscar for not cracking up during a particular scene where Steve talks about being away for "two days that seemed like three", etc. I'm not quoting exactly, but if you saw. this, you know what I mean.
"L.A. Story" Martin driving his car to the neighbor's house RIGHT NEXT DOOR.
Would the funny-as-filmed car-to-car shooting be "censored" today?
One of our favorites too, you've got fine taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
Pretty sure this was never a 'controversial scene'. Never heard a single word about this in my 50+ years, and I've talked about this movie droves of times as it's one of my top 10 all-time favorite comedies.
It certainly wasn't a public controversy since no one ever heard of this story. Certainly didn't spark any activist discussions. Probably a few people behind the scenes talked about it. Most likely it was cut because it wasn't funny enough to be in the film. No one was acting politically correct in 1979.
I saw it when it came out. There was no controversy about any removed scenes. And there was no public discussion about gay rights because of this film.
This film would never be made today... never. Woke has destroyed humor. Period. So very sad. An absolute classic.
How do you come to that conclusion? People were no less so called “woke” back then. In fact the video mentions several scenes were cut from the movie for consideration of public sensitivities or fear of backlash. 🙄
So true! Those days were a different time.
Lol someone doesn't understand the term woke. It existed back then you know.
@@T1004asdgeif Yeah, hip, conscious, woke, etc., are similar words popular at different times. Actually hip is the only one passé now.
All I need to smile is to think of Steve Martin.... and that's ALL I need!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! We miss seeing Steve on the big screen.
And this paddleball. And this remote control.
I love his "The Man With Two Brains", "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (Rachel Ward!😍 ) and "Pennies From Heaven" movies too.
@@seeburg220 That ALL I need... and this ashtray... The paddleball, the remote control and the ashtray... that's all I need!
One little detail I loved in this movie was a poolside "Dixie Cup"-type dispenser at rich man Navin Johnson's home that had Waterford crystal goblets stacked up instead of paper cups.
Diddy had one of those pssst
The version I saw had the cat juggling scene dropped. Don't know if it was dropped because the theater found it too offensive or if the theater wanted the film to fit into an exact time slot.
Loved Bernadette Peters, gorgeous woman.
We loved Bernadette too! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Although I love many of his films, hands down my all time favourite Steve Martin film is "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid"
Misleading title. The scene is not included. To big to care?
The cut scene is not shown? What? Does it not exist? You wait til the end to explain it and there's no visual record. Did they not only cut it but destroy the film as well? What a disappointment.
"dougleclaire9424," Yup, once again -- the big tease but no reveal. A trend with "Facts Verse."
Who cares about an alphabet people scene that was cut?
My favorite Steve Martin movie is Planes, Trains And Automobiles with John Candy.
Our favorites too, you've got fine taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
Meh, doesn't hold up nearly as well, imo.
I am not a big fan of comedy in movies. However, my son not only likes comic movies but is also a big fan of Steve Martin. I will have to share this video with him.
Interesting, thanks for sharing your life story. What other types of video would you like to see?
The decision to cut Bill Murray's scene shows the delicate balance directors and writers must strike in comedy.
"thefamouspeople1960," Nah, this was out-and-out censorship.
The script goes through DOZENS of individuals, including everyone at the studio, the various story editors assigned to the picture and the entire cast and crew, 10 - 15% who are gay.
Steve Martin wasn't making fun of African Americans when he declared convincingly he "was born a poor black child" and he wasn't making fun of his, Bill Murray's and Bernadette Peters' many gay friends and associates. The characters were simply FUNNY and / or found themselves in funny circumstances.
Using the TIRED cliche: it's called HUMOR. Lighten up, everybody.
" . . . delicate balance directors and writers must strike . . . " my A$$. Using another '80s era term, 'gag me with a spoon.' Call it what it is / was -- censorship. That horrifying image to the creative types of the dreaded 'blue pencil' going over the script page by page only to see its aftermath: 'cut,' 'no,' 'not a chance.'
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great evening!
@@scvandy3129 Thanks for sharing
Didn't need Murray. Steve was so good in this movie. I don't think Murray is very funny.
I’m old enough to have seen the _All in The Family_ episode “Gloria Suspects Mike” where she appeared and she’s every bit as beautiful now as way back then.

The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, LA Story and Shopgirl. My mom’s favorite was Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Can't forget "Trains planes and automobiles
Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and seeing this face looking at you 2:30
Yeah, disturbing, I noticed the rings around the eyes looked like tire tubes. It looks not so much like lack of sleep as it does a chemical attack or silent film era horror movie makeup.
A very sexist title picture. It showed a clip of the restaurant scene which was NOT deleted.
I like the movie, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels".
All of Me is my absolute favorite, followed by The Man with Two Brains. Steve Martin is also my favorite comic actor. I laugh just thinking about him
I hear you, you just see that face and it's funny, because he's done so much crazy stuff. Same with Robin Williams, just great, nutty humor.
I loved the Jerk! It was very funny! You could not make a film like that today.
Sad but true!
this chair, the pen, and the paddle game, its all i need!!!
Another mis-titled clip. The title refers to a scene cut from the final film, but not only does this clip not show the scene in question, it only talks about various aspects of the film as though a computer is reading them. Two thumbs down.
My favorite Steve Martin film is Roxanne. The bar scene (20 something betters) is classic! The balcony scene is kinda hard to take, though.

RUclips needs to show thumbs down again
Instead of saying cut scene 300 times just FN show it. The Jerk is one of the best, if not the Best Comedy Movies Ever Made. Cutting a gay scene is social responsibility? LoL More Liberal, Hollywood Rhetoric even in 1979.
What the hell did you just say?🤔
I was going to ask the same question.
But u don't like gays anyways so what are u so discombulated about? SHOOK!!

I didn't know it was Martin who was the cat juggler!
Nope. This isnt "The Jerk", i.e. no Steve Martin. so. Maybe put a complete title so I don't waste the click eh?
"...the portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters on film?"
The film was released on 1979. The acronym, LBT, did not exist until the Eighties and didn't become LGBTQ+ until even later. More accurately, they were worried about the portrayal of gays and lesbians on film.
Loved this movie and I can't imagine any other actor than Steve in this role but his all time best...Planes, Trains & Automobiles with the late and great John Candy...
Glad to know that you're a fan of The Jerk! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
okay so where is the controversial scene?
Lol. The entire movie makes fun of rural white guys- but they get their panties in a twist over one scene involving gay people? Nothing should be out of bounds in comedy. Especially worrying about upsetting the 3% of your audience who might be gay.
Where can we find the cut scene?
Lesson learned. No more 'Facts Verse' for me.

Another thing that was different when this film first came out - The scene where Navin is in bed and listenening to the radio. There was a different tune that Navin dances to. The frustrating thing is NOBODY ELSE REMEMBERS THIS TUNE ! PLEASE tell me I'm right ! I have a VHS tape with this original tune, but I don't have a VHS player to watch it on !

Hardly anyone cared about the gay community when the Jerk was made. They likely cut the scene because it wasn't that funny and didn't advance the story.
It was surprising to see “Whaul-tah” in the movie from “Maude”.
"Dumb and Dumber" is a straight ripoff of "The Jerk".

Love Steve Martin, and love The Jerk. Totally disagree with your (I assume un-researched point) that the film received "mostly positive reviews" upon release. Quite the opposite! Movie critics hated this movie, calling it simple, dumb, politically incorrect and crass. But people went to see The Jerk anyway, and the rest is history. Please do some actually research next time. Lazy writing.
@@KidFresh71 in fact, if you read the comments a full 1/3 or so say they do not like The Jerk.
It was NOT received well. But, audiences loved it. Plus… MARTIN WROTE IT! Carl Reiner agreed to do it, and Martin left stand-up! His autobiography is harsh, he suffered. He struggled. Then, he “made it” and had 50,000 in an audience. But, once at the top? He hated it. Totally hated it. Making films saved him. Read that autobiography- it’s revealing,
Martin wanted to entertain audiences. That was his soul. An entertaining man who wanted to make people laugh. Pennies from Heaven demonstrated his range, imo.
My favorite is The Jerk
Glad to know that you're a fan! What other types of video would you like to see?
Where is the scene then.
Misleading title. The missing scene is only a suggested gay character.
Actor Richard Ward played Nathan's Father? LOL. Ward, as is not stated here, was a good character actor, who was in many movies & TV Shows & was The Original Captain Doby (yes, there was no E) in The Pilot Episode Of what would become Starsky & Hutch, with Actor Bernie Hamilton coming in to play him in The Series. It should be noted that Ward had also played another character in The Last Season (I believe that it was called Huggy Bear Can't Go Home?) which also had Roger C. Mosley before his TC Role in Magnum PI
The controversial canned scene was Bill Murray as a flamboyantly gay decorator. Let's not offend the homosexual demographic, but it's fine to offend everyone else. In fact, let's put a picture of Steve Martin with his pants around his ankles on the movie poster.
