It's always more fun to tinker when you can still drive it to work the next day :) I have loads of servicing bits to do while the weather is nice so hopefully, there will be some more over the next 3-4 months.
That archoil is good stuff try revive turbo and engine cleaner or Normfest DC980 - Diesel Air-Intake System Cleaner since using these my old pd 130 has not gone in to limp mode again it's been 12 months and 15k miles no more limp mode
New exhaust manifold gasket costs a little bit. I've done this job before, but it makes absolutely no difference wether you clean it after the fact or keep it clean with additives.
Really useful information Craig, just done mine as I've owned my 2.0D type since august last year and I firmly believe prevention is better than cure when it comes to things like this.
So just as a quick follow up Craig, I took mine for a drive after doing this and the difference is incredible , the car feels much more responsive and smooth, particularly improved at lower revs and I know this isn't just a placebo effect its really noticeably better to drive than before and the fuel economy is also showing signs of improvement almost instantly, needless to say I will be doing this again in a few weeks time with my second can of wynns, and then I'll definitely do it at every service from now on too as a preventative measure.
Cool, glad it worked well for you! My mpg is improved but I wasn't sure if it's because it's warmer and there's been less traffic on the road. Last winter I was getting 46-47mpg now it's a consistent 49mpg. I agree 15-20 minutes of preventative work save hours :)
I did this today , since I did the process the car seems to be running fine but now the engine management light is on ?? Any ideas why ? . Is the only way to figure it out to go to the garage and have them use diagnostic equipment? Cheers
Running it with no air flow might give an error from the MAF sensor? I have an OBD reader (amzn.to/3unzaXJ), handy to read errors and reset them. It's also useful when you are buying a car as it'll tell you when the errors were last reset.
Yes, mine does. I think it should start moving the vanes more as revs increase. Potential causes of the error are the vanes getting stuck from gloop , a mechanical failure of the actuator... Or one leading to the other.
Yep, just as you push for an extra couple of horses... Slow cold driving on my work commute that does it so I'm guessing mine'll need doing every few years now?
@@CraigManning Hi Graig, I am about to order either the Wynn's EGR 3 or "Professional Range" Turbo cleaner, can you tell me why you choose the EGR 3 as opposed to the other? - You and yours take care -

hi mate my 2,2 x type every now and again says gearbox fault and the amber coil light too when you accelerate hard or kick down is your car auto or manual was wondering why your car dont say gearbox fault because on jaguar 2.2 turbo diesel forums it says gearbox fault thanks
Hi, mines a manual 2.0 but that probably doesn't make a difference. The symptoms sound the same other than the dash warning... I don't remember mine saying gear box fault on the dash and I don't think I had an OBD reader at the time. When searching it was a generic fault and the forums directed me to a turbo problem. If you are comfortable doing it then checking the actuator moves is a good first step. A can of turbo cleaner is cheaper than a trip to a garage? Mine took two goes, after the first it ran fine for a good couple of months before it did it. I got a second can sprayed in and it hasn't done it in over a year.
Unfortunately before I had a chance to do it my car has gone into limp mode again and has stayed in limp mode because when I turn it of then start it after 5 seconds gearbox fault and glow plug eluminates and can't move checked my brakedown on insurance and not covered so joined AA yesterday and will get car recovered to home and have a go at cleaning but will advise AA man of what I think it is will let you know outcome
OK as I said joined AA but they will not come out as I have done it direct debit they won't entertain you till first payment comes out so I walked to car and hey presto started drove no problem got it home used wyns egr cleaner the way you said put all back together just took on test drive everything seems OK but as we all know early days think it happens when car is in traffic as mine is one of the late models with p.d.f. filter I am also getting local mechanic to remove egr valve a clean any soot and muck in there many thanks for advise happy motoring thanks craig
Hello sir, I have an automatic X type diesel 2.2 turbo and got the gearbox fault a few weeks ago. I was on the highway when it started, I felt something clicked then the check lighted and the car began losing power trough out the trip, today it runs at max 90km/h and 3000+ rpm, I tried your method with one can of Wynn's Diesel EGR3 Air Intake, removed the air filter and sprayed directly into the turbo but it didn't work, I didn't check the actuator like you did, mine does not move even when I increase the rpm, could it be the problem or should I try with one more can ? A jaguar garage isn't near me so it would be great if I could solve this problem myself, please advice me thank you.
Hi, If the turbo is dirty and the vanes can't move it certainly won't do the actuator any good, but if you disconnect the actuator arm and turning on or rev'ing the engine doesn't make the arm move then I think the actuator is probably the first place to start looking. ruclips.net/video/829xW562TaU/видео.html I think this one shows the arm movement better than my video ~2:30 minutes in and the whole thing is a much better diagnosis for actuator problems - if you can move the mechanical part of the turbo cleaning is probably not going to help.
@@CraigManning What do you think if I remove the turbo and clean it thoroughly, I only sprayed one can (200ml) of wynn turbo cleaner, you said yours needed 2 to work right, maybe It could fix it ?
The Wynns spray says 2000 rpm for a petrol and to not rev a diesel... Seems counter intuitive but I suppose it saves damaging the engine, with the air flow sensor off the fuel/air mix is off before anything is sprayed in?
Do you still have the car? If so, is the turbo still holding up well after doing this? Got a 56 reg Mondeo with this exact issue so want to try it out.
@@CraigManning Alright cheers, nowhere near me had the tins in stock but they had the stuff you put in your tank so giving that a try. Personally think my actuator is dead though. All my pipes and hoses are fine, took the circlip off the arm and it moved freely after a run out with this stuff in. But still my car throws the dreaded glow plug light once you start her up and in limp mode. I noticed the actuator itself doesn’t seem to move at all. I got a code of P132B Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor B
@@DeathlySin Ah, yes the actuator should move into position when you start the car if not then that might be the first thing to replace? If the vanes of the turbo are gummed up the whole thing might be stuck but unclipped from the arm mine moved into position when starting and at high revs.

Hi is the engine running when you're spraying into the turbo?
Yep. It says not to rev while you spray, you have to do a Goldilocks amount as too much will choke it.
