    Best service with these guys!!!! Took lots of photos to find the right Ash as they are all different! Just received mine Monday. While it was difficult to hear online, the sound is bigger than life once in your hands. I wanted something without the chime like top end of my 314... More mid and base. I was worried that this would get lost in a band setting, but it punches out even harder than a regular 14 CE

      This is great to hear. I would love to appreciate the Taylor guitars, but I haven't found anything that speaks to me that I would consider trying that has a reasonable price and I paid $3k in September for my latest (Adirondack over mahogany 00 Martin).
      I like Bob Taylor's moral beliefs and Andy Powers has an interesting mind. I just haven't found one that I would risk what they want, especially on an experimental, flavor of the week guitar.

    When I clicked on this video I really thought I was going to like the urban ash, but instead I fell in love with the mahogany. I absolutely love the tone, dark, dry, and compressed. Up until I saw this video I was leaning toward an Eastman E10ss, but now I'm not so sure.

    The mahogany number sounded louder , toppier to my ears. Then again, I've been sitting under sirens for 30yrs and I'm also an x troop ( big bangs n stuff) . Both were fine to me .Thanks for the demo .

    Great compare Chris!! The Ash really does hold it’s own vs a Hog. Quite surprising because when you see a Spruce looking top you don’t expect to hear a deep tone?!

    Liked the "Kick Ash" very much. It was for sure out there punching through, as I would think it would in a mix. I've been impressed with all the ash that Taylor has brought out. The mahogany was good too. But anything with the Taylor name on it is pretty hard to beat. Thanks

    Hey, I’m pleasantly surprised by all the mahogany love here. But … through my iPhone speakers, I was digging the urban ash sound. Though both are gorgeous instruments. This is, I might add, from an equal opportunity player who loves, owns, and enjoys Martin and Taylor. Peace, love, and all that jazz (and folk).

    My ears find the urban ash to sound more articulate but the mahogany to sound more engaging. I’d be thrilled with either one but I’m choosing the hog!

  • @nellatrab
    @nellatrab 2 года назад +10

    If one is talking about the actual frequency spectrum emitted from these two guitars as a comparison, subjectively from what I'm hearing, the 324 is louder, has more on the bass end across all strings, giving a chime/ring, missing in the 424. The 424 sounds softer, thinner and glassy, less character and just more treble. Also the zebra-ish ash top of the 424 looks weird IMO.

  • @johnwyrosdick5817
    @johnwyrosdick5817 2 года назад +1

    Immediate reaction is that I love the Mahogany MUCH more than the Urban Ash. Yes, the Urban Ash seems to have a louder voice, a wider frequency response BUT I just love and prefer the character of the Mahogany sound presented here.

    I spent about 8 months in finding a good guitar for me. I compared Taylor 324Ce with different models in Taylor and other brands in the same or little bit higher price range, but I could not find anything warmer and beautiful than this guitar. Taylor 324Ce can beat any guitars in this price range. I even think it's better than the Builder's Edition.

  • @richwood571

    I’d agree, very different tones. Quite impressed with the ash. It definitely has more character in the low mids but still has the compressed sound. Not as pretty as the hog but

    I hear chime in the 324. I love both if I was going to buy a guitar today. It would be all 424

  • @arkadyromanov7803
    @arkadyromanov7803 2 года назад +1

    To me the 324 had more individual note articulation while the ash was more inclined to bring its friends along. They're both good sounding. Aesthetically I find the ebony fingerboard for the ash guitar a little off? Can't really explain why. As I said it sounds good, but that particular ash top has some unfortunate grain placement. Looks like floorboarding and I can't unsee it.

  • @jshu1625
    @jshu1625 2 года назад +3

    I think the ash falls right in the middle tween spruce and mahogany but at the end of the day mahogany is a sound that is unique to itself and by far the most attractive looking!

  • @LexingtonDaniel
    @LexingtonDaniel 2 года назад

    Surprised to see how many folks agree with me. I strongly prefer the mahogany... It is more articulate with better note separation and the ash's frequency peak just hits my ear in a harsh way.
    Where walnut has a higher peak than mahogany in a "growly" way, the ash goes a bit... "jangly?"
    To each their own and I'm interested to see the ironbark-mahogany-ash comparison and see how variable things are between individual guitars within the same woods. If you play 3 ash is there more tonal variation than 3 mahogany? Mahogany being farmed now and this type of ash being random harvest from different conditions.

    Exactly what I’m looking for (all natural urban ash top, back and sides) but also wondering how well the urban ash back & sides pairs with either a spruce or mahogany top?

    • @Therapyxx
      @Therapyxx Год назад

      It's exactly 324 builders edition.
      Mahagony top, urban ash back and sides.
      But it costs also 600-700 eur more than usual 324ce

  • @scouser2230

    I suspect the difference in sound between these two guitars is more evident if you are in the same room where you are playing them. The subtleties of the sound difference is very difficult to pick up on over RUclips using Apple devices, including ear pods.

    I'd like to know what the difference is between "urban " ash and other ash, like swamp or anything used on say a Tele solid body. Is it the same, and the "urban " is just describing where it came from? I have some urban maple in my yard.

  • @PeteA54

    As I've never been a fan of Taylor's sound due to the excessive treble (IMO), I really love the sound of the 324! To my ears the 424 sounds lifeless. Playability on most Taylors is second to none so the 324 gives me the sound I prefer along with great playability.

  • @nicholassoper3211

    The Urban Ash seemed to enhance all the great qualities of the guitar more. The sounds seemed a bit more crisp than the Mahogany. I have always loved a mahogany guitar... leaning towards an Urban Ash for my next one. Great video, thanks for sharing.

    Are we at a point in history where guitar players should begin to choose instruments that have had less impact on the resources of the planet? Like we are now doing with other products. The 324 is sweeter sounding to me, but I may be swayed into buying the 424 if the data says it's production was kinder on the planet? 🤔

    I dont buy guitars very often and even if may not an outstanding guitar player, I feel like I still deserve a premium wood when I make a huge purchase on a guitar.. I will try to save the environment some otherways but please give me a real tonewood guitar. The compression of Urban Ash sounds like a laminate board without its durability.
