I just love Dillon because he's just so honest, it's very refreshing in this space.
I'm sure most reviewers are honest (unless they're shills), in that they say what they like and so on, but do they consider the other side? Like, Takara is good, but don't you think all the chocolate covers up the fruit in, say Gold? I'd like to try Takara Gold, but I figure it's the same problem. Parker's DB is probably good, but I bet it's not as good as the recent rye.
You guys are right. Year end lists suck
They kinda proved it, didn't they?
My favorite bourbons that I tried this year were probably Four Roses Limited Edition 2020, a 9-year-old Russell's Reserve Barrel Pick from warehouse K, and Penelope 9 Cask Strength, in that order.
I didn't try too many scotches or tequilas this year, but of the ones I tried, my favorites were a 31-year-old Benriach single cask from SMWS and Tequila Ocho Plata.
That Penelope 9 yr CS is so good at about 70. Have hooked up some friends with that bottle and they all love it.
Bunna 12 CS 2022 is great
Do you still remember Booker's "Granny's Batch "? Yes, I do. Sipping it as we speak, and I love it! Also, my favorite ECBP's., in no particular order. C920, B520, C923. So, yes Dillan, I still remember. Love you guys, keep up the good work.
Michters 10 2023 was the best spirit of the year. I have a backup and will only open for my son's graduation.
That was sooooo good! They would probably hate it.
Sorry haven’t watched in awhile, currently working through a backlog of CPU episodes, but congrats on the 15k subs! Totally deserved!
I agree with "what was the most memorable sip I had this year" reguardless of when it was released. For my Scotch, the '22 Bunnahabhain 12 yr cask strength was terrific buuuut the '22 Diageo special release Oban 10 has been the one thats been going the fastest which is a testament to it hitting so many pleasing notes for me.
Bourbon, well, I was also floored by the Parker's Double Barrel sample I tried but my heart strings pull at 2022 Four Roses Small Batch LE as my favorite. Just a couple precious ounces had at a bar...I nursed that thing for 90 minutes and it just continued to evolve and impress. *sighs*
I dont drink tequila but did bottle kill a Foursquare 2007 rum at a bar. That sent me right to the liquor store to grab a few expressions to replicate that experience. They come close but man that '07 was something else.
Thanks for the content gents!
What no Irish whiskey!!!
I demand another video 😂
Redbreast 27
Killoween tawny port
Thomond Gate Ruby Port
Yellow Spot 23 year
Bushmills 44
Scotch while I love the 2022 Bunnahabain 12 yr cask strength and was fortunate enough to have had a pour of the Bunnahabain 1988 Marsala Cask. I have to pick the Octomore 13.1 as I own 2 bottles and do not own the 1988 which hands down would have been the best.
My favorite whisky this year was the Kanosuke Limited Edition 2023. I also enjoyed an Ichiro “green leaf” which is a little older but it has been on my list of whisky to try and it was a good price. I also realized that a nicely designed bottle and label speak to me. I had a bottle of Nikka Miyagikyo this summer on my shelf and it had a dark presence and maybe that’s why I enjoyed the Kanosuke so much, the bottle shape was beautiful, packaging and label design and color selection I enjoyed and it just added to the drinking experience. Happy new year!
I have only started drinking spirits neat since March of this year. But the best I have had are: WLW 2019 bourbon, Dalmore King Alexander III scotch, and I don’t drink tequila so I will throw in my rum pick. Grander 10yr Panama Toasted Barrel Rum store pick. Pretty good start for my spirits journey. Happy New Year
Best Bourbon: 13th Colony DO
Best Scotch: Bruichladdich Black Art 10.1
Best Tequila: G4 Blanco Madera
Best Rum: Foursquare Isonomy
Best Armagnac: Bhakta 1982
Best Cognac: Gregarious Grump 14yr Cask Strenght Cognac (unknown producer)
Best Rye: JD SBBP Rye and Old Overholt 10yr Cask Strenght
Isonomy is awesome! Curiosity Public pointed out the flaws of Shibboleth, that I couldn’t see until I did a side by side with Isonomy. Then, I was like “Shibboleth is a little tannic.” I liked Isonomy more than this year’s release, Covenant, as well. They caught lightning in a bottle with that well-aged rum.
Found your channel last month! I've learned so much! Thanks for the amazing content!
Any recs for Hibiki 21 alternatives? I keep hearing there are comparable scotches for a fraction of the price, but no one on Reddit or the internet actually names any alternatives
Cheers!
Hard to match Hibiki 21. Maybe some of the older Glenmorangie expressions. Could be a fun episode for us to do in the future.........
I had to trade a bottle of GTS for a Hibiki 21. Totally worth it.
Great video. My favorite this year was the Michters barrel strength rye
Still have some 2020 Toasted Barrel Barrel Strength so haven't cracked the 2023. CHEERS!
The snob factor on this one goes to 11 lol. Meanwhile here's the 2023 Trailer Park edition: 1) Tequila: Real De Valle Blanco, Suerte Repo, Terralta Anejo and Number Juan XO. 2) Wheel Horse Rye 3) Benchmark Top Floor Bourbon 4) Spirit Hound Honey Malt Whiskey 5) Tamdhu 12 Yr Scotch 6) Gustoso Artesenal Rum. HNY guys!
Scotch: Glendronach 15 nice fruits dark chocolate and complexed Johnnie walker gold
Tequila: Tears of Llorona or Tequila ocho blanco
Bourbon: IW harper cab.cask finish or eagle rare
U guys tried the Makers mark cellar age , Michtner 10yr 2023 , shenks , bomberers, any of the new staggs? There was sooo many guys I feel like u guys didn’t go hard this year but still a fav channel
My favorite bourbons were TinCup 10 year and Widow Jane Decadence. Favorite rum is still Foursquare 2008 although I stumbled across El Dorado 12 year and really enjoyed it. My favorite Tequila is still Tears of Llorona ( I bought two more bottles for the event of an apocalypse). My brother made a cherry brandy that was truly amazing. 2023 in a nutshell of drinkery for me.
I think my favorite of your pours were Ocho, Park Heritage, and Glenmorangie
Best scotch pour I had this year was a sampler of Glenmorangie Signet that I got from a CPU friend. 10/10 for balance! Best bourbon was an Elijah Craig barrel pick - super high proof and delicious, rich flavors. I only bought one tequila this year, the Ocho blanco, so that wins by default.
Honorable mention to Rhum JM VSOP - not necessarily a "favorite" but an interesting, odd flavor profile with this weird grassy note that's unique among rums I've tried. Dillon would like it at least. Hope you do a few rum reviews next year, it's been a while!
The year went so fast, thanks for all the episodes! Hope to see the Straight Rye Contender in the new year!
Awesome job as always Dillon! Love your Tequila pick Dutch! Funny how Jules is all camp Volcan all of a sudden, he must have been in a funk the day you guys did the video one that Blanco :o)
Nice shirt, Dutch. That new Tesseract album was one of the best new albums this year.
Yes! Great album!
we need more tequila blinds! more blinds more blinds
Have to say, I still love "King George V"...up to my (personal) 5th or 6th bottle 😲👍.....and , I just gave one to a famous person (Singer)...✨🏆🥇👍...
Thanks for the export only bourbon picks lol
Gotta agree with Dillon that PHC Double Barreled bourbon is fantastic and just got a post-Christmas store call and somehow they had a bottle for me. UFR!!
You are so lucky. I bought a drink of this earlier this year at a restaurant and it was absolutely the best bourbon I have ever tasted. Too bad I cannot find any sub $500.
I hope to try some Parker’s heritage 1 day the rye this is I heard is good
Picked up a Tequila Ocho 2023 puntas that’s my bottle of the year. Also picked up a Don Fulano fuerte that is incredible. So many great tequilas out there now. Also starting getting into bourbon this year. I got a larceny BP C923 and an Barrell Amburana finish
Best Tequila... El Tesoro I keep going back to that tequila, Wild Common batch 3 is an honorable mention
Scotch, Monkey Shoulder 😅 (is the second scotch i ever tried)
Wild turcky 101 as the best whiskey bevause i use it for mixing
Cheers boys! You’re not alone! I’m not gettin’ paid either! 😭
Was waiting for the tequila bottle neck to break! Great year guys, thank you!
Recapping unicorns is interesting, but the typical consumer will never find any of them (without turning to the outrageous secondary market). I'd much prefer seeing you do an additional recap of bottles that are generally available, something I could actually buy this week.
Almost gave these guys a thumbs down because of the bottles they presented. C'mon fellas; something more mainstream for the peasants.
Yeah - there are a couple of unicorns on the list, but a lot of these are "regularly available" - just expensive. The Volcan and Nueve Uno are both regularly available - and despite the high price tags, the Glenmorangie , Highland Park, and 345, are all obtainable at or near their MSRPs without much effort.
But definitely get the point- a list of our "favorite easily obtainable value bottles" would be a fun one to do in the future.
@@CuriosityPublicI’d still like to see the allocated/unicorn inclusive list. You never know when you get a chance at one of these, gotta know if they’re “worth the chase” or the money.
Every f’ing youtuber does basic.
Man live a little. Most of these bottles are not hard to get. If not your jam that’s fine but let others enjoy them and an episode about them then.
@@pizzawarlord9232 Dude, get some Prozac.
Bourbon- if I had to pick bourbon I’d say Heaven Hill Heritage 17 (similarly not released this year but I didn’t try it until this year), but if I can include rye I’d say instead the Leopold Bros Three Chamber Holiday edition No. 2
Scotch- Benromach CS (specifically 2007, batch 1) but honorable mention to McCarthy’s 6-year PX finished (HM because not a Scotch…)
Don’t drink nearly as much agave-based spirits so I’ll go with rum instead: a 26-year old Clarendon 1995 EMB bottled by Auld Alliance (HM to the Afish/FineDrams 26-year Clarendon also from 1995) followed by an IB of Hampden DOK (unaged)
Nice show boys!
Cheers 🥃
all the bourbon is purplish. Interesting.
Volcan was a great choice ngl
I agree. Their XA is also in my top 3 tequilas.
Bourbon: Widow Jane Decadence
Scotch: Springbank 15
Rum: FourSquare sovereignty
Tequila: Fortaleza Anejo
Japanese: Yamazaki 12
Love the Bourbon, Whiskey, and Tequila picks. Can you branch out more to rums???
Ah another man of great taste. Tesseract is an incredible band
Have y’all done an Arte Nom tasting? Might be a good drinkthrough
No rum?
Great pick Dillon. PH Double Barreled and the Double Char are the best bourbons I have ever tasted. Just cant find it at a reasonable price.
What’s funny is that, at least bourbon-wise, I have had your top 3 (though not the Takara Gold… I had a Takara Red to start the year). I thought they were meh. I hated Parker’s Heritage for its lack of balance. It is too oaky. It is too tannic… for ME. I had the Wild Turkey Father and Son, but wasn’t very impressed. Probably not the whiskey’s fault… it was sandwiched between some high proofers.
I loved the Russell’s Single Rick CNF that Dillon panned by name. I also loved the JD12 that you all also called out. I am not paid to say that. Disrespecting the bourbon community is dumb. I’m not paid to like these whiskies. I am an outlier on the Parker’s and I know that. Many people with palates I respect love that bottle. That is what makes the world go round.
My favorite bourbon pour was a King of Kentucky single barrel I had in Kentucky and it wasn’t really even close.
Scotch of the year… I didn’t drink as much as I would have liked. It was probably a Glendronach Parliament. Tequila… another one you guys panned… the Cascahuin 11 Brix.
Favorite Rum… a Rest & Be Thankful Long Pond Single Barrel. Y’all should run down a Hampden taster kits that featured all of their marks unaged. That would be an interesting drink through.
where is the Foursquare 18 Covenant review ? I know you have it
With a Tesseract shirt on nonetheless. WT has been killing it lately.
For bourbon if you could do a new drink through of the big hitters (per other channels) and just reconfirm you don’t like them that would be great. No way Blantons is better than jd12 or Russell’s you reviewed.
Stagg 22A hands down.
You guys should review Bozal Mezcal
What Dillon is saying about remembering a certain bottle from 2 or 3 years ago is the reason I do not get into the hype and refuse to pay over 200.00 and rarely pay even over 100.00 for any bourbon, or any liquor for that matter. Keeping to the 100.00 max for an anejo and even more so an extra anejo tequila is getting tough though.
Big fan of the nueveuno!
For the intro the joker and the Batman single handedly better than anything marvels released the last 10 years
Stoch is my favorite
Tequila should make up the biggest portion of your content because it's poised to surpass vodka as the best-selling spirit in the US.
No rum! 😭
You guys should check out Tommy’s Mexican in San Francisco for his tequila. He knows his tequila. Even sampling a Cabo Uno at the bar. Can’t wait for 2024 and more tequila information keep it up guys.
That where I cut my teeth on tequila back in 2004!
What's wrong with Independence Day
Maybe y’all just like purple package bourbons :)
Hey Guys, Lots of Tequilas, Bourbons & Scotch, to review, falling behind. taking to long to edit!
Next year you guys need to move into Brandy. Why not. Gotta get ahead of the next trend. Bourbon has Boomed, Tequila is Booming... what's next. Hopefully not Vodka because Vodka is the most boring spirit. If brandy blows up that would be wild because that stuff would could become extremely expensive very fast. There are tons of fairly affordable brandy bottles out there that are 30+ years old but obviously you can't replace that supply very easily if it blew up like bourbon has.
I've seen TONS of craft distilleries jump into the brandy game lately so that might be because there is some demand out there already. Next year I'll probably add a handful of affordable Hors d'Age Cognacs to my shelves. Brandy was actually the first liquor I enjoyed neat. Stepped away from spirits for a few years and some RUclips videos on bourbon got me into buying bottles again. Now I have a basement full of brown water.
Your quest is to evaluate every sipping spirit on the planet - well you skipped quite a few. I know that you do not review many Irish or Canadian whiskeys, but you do spend time tasting Japanese whisky, Ryes, Brandys, and Rums. Need to add those to the reviews.
Yes! Definitely want to expand the reviews in 2024
How can you say , you don't like Independence day?? If you say you don't like Jack Burton big trouble in little china..i think i will have to question all your whiskey choice's..
GFY
19👍
No ECBP C923? Unsubbed.
I must say I have to agree with this comment. C923 should be in here especially for price and it being in the realm of B520 and the like. Dillon actually chose it in a blind too lol.
Independence Day was the 1st big blockbuster where I eye rolled so hard about how stupid the filmmakers thought the audience was. Like are Aliens really clicking on a malware email .. and dont get me started to the Prez's speech. I just wstched Pulp Fiction a few months before so where I became a pretentious art house indie film boy when I walked into ID. Still love blockbusters but most are horrible..not made by Christopher Nolan
I feel so vindicated
Very disappointed with this video. Selecting bottles that came out in previous years is hilarious. It’s 2023 retrospective… get off your high horses about and maybe select items that came out in 2023? Maybe do a service to your viewers instead of yourselves.
“Academic exercise” what a joke.
Very happy about this video, 10/10. They picked the liquor they genuinely liked. Deal with it. They already explained why they picked what they picked lol.
I understand why they did what they did, I just don’t agree with it. It’s like if the 2023 Academy Awards decided to give the best picture Oscar to a 2022 movie. These year end retrospectives should only consider what was released in the current year… play the hand you were dealt. But, unfortunately, they decided they were too cool for school and go this route… whatever, happy you enjoyed it.
It is very hard. We are into 2024 and BTAC has not hit my local market yet. Most releases try to hit in the last 3 months of the year, and some end up missing. This is not a bad approach. Maybe you should start a RUclips channel and do it your way?
