There is a lot of confusion here so I want to make it clear. If you have already purchased the lab before Friday, you will be LOCKED IN at that price for as long as you are in the lab. I'm not going to just randomly up the price for the already paying customers, that would be ridiculous.
Nice work balancing your title range Doug. I was beginning to wonder if any investment in your program was worth it given your predictable play, but this convinced me to join the upswing heads up program! (feel free to send me the link for a free one for this advertisement...)
no he didn't, he shoved with the 10 high straight blocker and got Smith to fold a set, but Doug thought to focus more on Huck's fold here. The fold was more impressive because he predicted Antonio would use his 10 high straight blocker to rejam after he called. An unbelievable read and fold really.
Some context for this hand: Justin was giving off a reverse tell because he knew that Huck looked for those sorts of things. Huck even says that he thought Justin was bluffing but couldn't call with Antonio behind him.
Hey Doug, loving your stuff, and of course the free content on Upswing Poker, (I'm not advanced enough to join the lab yet though - hopefully I'll get there in a few months...). Anyway, any chance you could do a poker hands analysis of the Bluff-tastic hand between Ivey and Jackson?
Doug - thanks for the torrent of amazing content! I've loved poker since I was a kid (played with my dad), and it's been fascinating watching all of your hand analysis. Much appreciated!
I don't think Huck was misleading when he said he had a bad hand with A10o, 4 way and against UTG range, A10o plays very tricky post flop. I also don't mind how Antonio played his hand at all, if he tries to bully he is gonna have a hard time folding out stuff like top pairs, two pairs, sets and stuff that are very likely 4 way; not to mention he scares bluffs and low pairs from giving him great pot odds to draw
Doug, do you think check raising with A10o on the turn is a option here? It's certain that Obrestad doesn't have a strong holding, and smith would have bet his strong hands on the flop. He prob wouldn't even call preflop with a hand like Q8s or 85s, and he's most likely to bet A8 on the flop. So his only real strong hand he can have is exactly 88, which is a really smart part of his range. Therefore A10o is very often good, and this way you let your opponents pay when they have a draw. Hope you can answer this strategic question:)
Doug, I think you should add to these videos of what YOU would've done in his/her spot on every street of the board. I know hindsight is 20/20 but I would love to hear what you would've done if you were on the featured person's shoes.
Is it possible Smith was trying to value-bluff with his river overbet? With a four-way river, after everyone called his 70%-pot bet on the turn, maybe he was trying to get slow-played AA or QQ to fold, and maybe even T9. With snowmen, he isn't blocking any of those hands, and might even prevent AA or T9 from coming in over the top and putting him in a tough spot that would have been a stronger option with a smaller bet size.
i have a question, which positions in poker get eliminated first when they're fewer than 9 people at the table?.. by positions i mean( big blind, small blind, cut off, hijack etc..)
hey polk thanks for ur videos ! u said that the river bet is bad, with straights or bluffs could be better but where is the profit if u bet with bluffs and nuts? is not ev 0 ? sry for my english
Hi Doug! Love your content. The best poker channel on youtube! Now, I wonder why you changed the order in the Poker Hands-playlist from newest to oldest instead of oldest to newest. I started to watch this playlist in the original way and now its get a little harder to watch in the order that I would like. Can you make mirrored playlists so your viewers can choose to watch you playlists either Oldest to newest or newest to older just like the AVGN-playlist on cinnemassacre? That would be awsome! Have a very nice day! // Lennie Swedish Doug Polk-fan
Smith is making this play to try and make his hand look like a bluff. Basically merging his range to get hero called by a hand that wouldn't be able to call a value bet. But polarizing his range may get someone with a naked ace to hero call thinking he has to have a straight or nothing. Obviously he has to have a pretty good read that no one has a striaght.
I feel like Huck Seed was way out of line on the river. He 'jokingly' says to Antonio I will call if you call, but it seemed to me he was considering a call and trying to get a reaction from Antonio to make sure he wasn't going to call or come over the top.
Just wondering why 2 pair would make more sense to call than AT? I mean as you said this should often be heavily polarized into straight or bluff. Two pairs wont block any of straights and also does lose to 88 (probably only set playing like this from BU). So if calling with two pairs it would be best to have 88 blocker but again Tx straight blocker should be more valuable and you obviously never have TT on river as BB.
Random idea doug. Maybe po(l)ker hands video of one of these vlogers hands?? You could interpret the hand itself and also analyze the guys own interpretation of his play??
Hey Doug I have a suggestion for your Heads up course; if you could combine content from yourself and the other top no limit HU players like Ike, Otb Kanu jungle man etc. I definitely am considering buying it though!
Since you seem to be fairly active here I hope you respond. What about PLO content, saw your discord post so I assume we should expect a lab content coming, any ETA, even if vague. I also hope that since it is a separate product it will have different pricing, not nearly as high as your new one as I don’t expect the content to be nearly as polished.
Thanks Doug! I have read a bit about Libratus and its playing strategy called counterfactual regret minimization. Would you be able to break that down for us a bit maybe with some examples of hands played against some of the best pros?
Being that I do not know what that term means, I cannot explain it. I can however, breakdown what it did and why. That information is going into my HU training course.
Regret minimization means making the minimum number of bad decisions you will regret and minimizing the result of the bad decisions such as betting when you should fold or failing to get full value from a relatively good hand. Counterfactual means adding up the result of decisions made in all possible situations, so counterfactual regret minimization means having the optimal strategy for playing poker against a particular opponent. It is like building and using a huge decision table containing for each possible situation the probability a player should check, call, or fold, or bet or raise a particular number of blinds. The strategy is optimal relative to a given opponent's style of play, not absolute. That is why, every evening Libratus analyzed hands played against each opponent that day and adjusted its strategy for the next day accordingly. I would love to see you analyze some of the hands played and point out mistakes and good decisions made by the computer and the humans.
Hey Doug, do you learn some cool lines from the Libratus? And how fast do you think some homemade AI-bot will RIP HU online-poker(nl2 included)? Thanks :)
Hey Doug have you thought about reviewing online highstakes interesting hands like the big pots uploaded to hsdb ? (or do you think the new novice audience would hate it ?)
How much are you increasing the semi-annual and the yearly plan to? Also, let´s say I buy the semi-annual plan. What options do I have after 6 months? Can I then switch to the yearly plan for 299$ a year or do I have to pay the new cost? How will switching plans work? Also, can I ever take a break after signing up now, or do I have to pay the new cost when I get back? This is a kind of hard decision for me. Cheers!
I want to say, that if you are in before the price increase, you could switch over to the older pricing. But that is also a good question to email support, because I am not 100% sure. It would make sense that you do get to change to me though, so I will try to clarify that/make sure you can. As far as leaving and coming back, that you cannot do. If we let people sign up and leave and come back later, then there is no incentive for them to stay with us month to month. You could just buy, watch everything, and come back for 1 month subscription for all the new information.
Doug, thanks for your great content. How about an episode of Polker-Hands featuring Robl vs Kirk. I think that is a super sick and interesting hand. Also, I think your subscribers would appreciate content about playing in high stakes TV cash games. How do you find investors for these games/to what % were you generally staked/do you have a mark up? You could also talk about the insane pressure of playing in these games. Best
Doug Polk Poker yeah well, i think is for me, iam a nl25 player. Still i want to know how much is it going to cost after the friday, whit the annual plan of course.
Doug, i love how ur like idk how HUck thinks about folding??? He’s a World champ ur a cash game player.... he thinks like a torney player u think like a cash game player.... u kinda put that into account ... keep killing it doug!
I think there's some merit to Antonios check. Honestly, he can't expect to get a fold 4 way like ever. If he bets, he just bloats the pot with a hand that draws poorly. He can't get much action from worse even if he hits. Bluffing with broadway clubs and spades seems much better, then you're at least drawing to th nuts. And yes, that's exactly why you don't open 107s utg in the first place
btw isn't Justin's value range really small given that he checked-back pretty wet flop against 3 other players, I mean, he could have A8s playing it conservatively on the flop, AA trapping both pre and flop -weird, but most likely he has just 88 or turn bluff 109s for the value...oh forgot K10 still just 3+4+4=12 combos...I don't know, it might be better to call with 10 blocker than 2-pair....108, I would just insta call, and be like I have to call your bluff mister Bond
kind of amazing huckseed doesnt bet on the flop he's doing well against some hands and when he checks hes kind of giving up the pot on the flop seeing how esfandari bet pre flop and doesnt follow through on the flop is saying a lot of antonio's hand as well i mean what is antonio really trying to sell really nothing what did he check to give people a chance to catch up unlikely since alot of hand with kings in it are going to call this flop so it doesnt make sense at all and at the end the guy just bets way to much to get called cause at that point huckseed isnt beating much hands
Smith claimed to do something with his heart beat to induce a hero by weak ranges. Although it was a good idea to overbet showing rising heart beat, I still dont get how he ruled out T9 and KT!!! Was it a dumb play? I dont know. But I believe Anette can easily wake up with a straight. It is much less likely for Antonio and Huck to have hit a straight considering the whole situation. Antonio felt strength on Anette and Huck's side which is why he didnt try to rep a good set.
I really wish commentators and Doug would use the surnames of the players in correlation with their name tags under their hands. I DON'T KNOW EVERYONE'S FIRST NAMES :)
Don't understand why you say it's better to call with 2p than AT.Shouldn't we expect almost nothing else thant KT 9T in the valu range??(88 should be really unfrequent, even if does bet that here) Isn't it better to call a hand with less strenght but better blocker agaisnt the value range?
Isn't smith the most likely person to have made a straight though? Let's be honest too how likely is it that his opponents called with a gutshot? He is trying to exploit his opponents perception of him being too loose and aggressive by overbet value-betting thin. If he does the same thing with straights and some bluffs isn't this a pretty cool strategy?
There is a lot of confusion here so I want to make it clear.

Doug props for keeping most of your vids 10 mins or under and also for diving straight into the action with no pause for annoying intros etc. Thanks!

And what about that 25 min state of the channel video man? I guess you weren't studying back there haha.
On Saturday its better to post videos like that, they get worse views so its a good day to talk with your real audience.
