Sir, you made a fine video and I thank you for it. I believe my beloved D110 is in the throes of a blown head gasket and you’ve helped me immensely.
Your story about the hammer reminds me a lot of my dad, who was a lineman for Ohio Bell for about 30 years before moving over to management with AT&T. I was in my garage today and happened to look over some of the older screwdrivers that I rarely use but keep at my workbench, and every one of them says “Bell System - Stanley Tools Made in USA” on the handle. Then I looked at my two favorite pairs of needle-nose pliers that are probably 50+ years old and they, too, say “Bell System - Crescent Made in USA” on the jaws. My dad, rest in peace, passed these remarkable tools down to me and my brother, and they carry the same amount of importance in my garage that your hammer does for you.
    Thanks for that story.

So glad you enjoyed the video, every person we meet has a story. Unless they worked a desk job most will have some great stories to tell. Keep safe

    A few things:
    1. All fasteners are metric.
    2. The intake push rod is aluminium and the exhaust is steel with a red stripe.
    3. It is not necessary to remove the valve cover when replacing the cylinder head gasket.
    4. The cylinder head surface flatness must be within 0.1mm [0.004"].
    5. There are THREE torquing steps for the cylinder head bolts: 9 Nm (75 lb-in), 17 Nm (150 lb-in), and then 25 Nm (220 lb-in). OIL THE BOLTS BEFORE INSERTION!
    6. Tightening sequence from lower-right clockwise around to upper-right is 7-1-3-6-8-5-2-4.
    7. You can leave the piston carbon alone.
    8. Those long dowels are completely unnecessary because there are already two alignment pins on the block.

Great job. Bought a 90s craftsman GT with 6 speed manual two years ago. Wanted something with a manual trans. Had to replace one of the head gaskets on its kohler 22.5hp for the same type of blow out. Bought off a guy from two states south of the border if you now what I mean which I know you will and he promised it needed nothing. That was my last straw, never buying anything from those folk again. Of course it needed other things too but it’s all fixed.

I need to rebuild my motor in my GT235 tractor someday but she still runs and gets the job done. I had gotten it from a guy it had a broken valve guide I put a new head on and been running it ever since but she uses some oil

To answer the B&S questions, I don't know if all their engines are, but they DO produce them here, in MO, NY, and WI at least.

What's annoying is that Briggs and JD proceeded using that puny head gasket for years well after they knew it was a problem. And then the replacement part is like the cure to prevent it from ever happening again. That replacement version should have been added years ago!
