When Dani left Dario she said that she would look for a marriage of alliance. Who is a better alliance then the King in the North? Why nobody has mentioned this possibility yet?
A lot of my thoughts exactly. I guess the cons I had with this episode was Gendry's fast travel and the passage of time. I didn't however had a problem with Dany arriving so fast since in a world now with fast travel it makes a hell of a lot more sense that the chick riding the only air force in the world can get to her destination at such a span of time. Other cons include the chains used to pull up Viserion, Benjen's quickie rescue and death and the Winterfell sister rivalry which seemed really out of place. The only thing I can say in regards to the Night King's choices is that he didn't kill the Companions because he didn't want to. I suspect he wants Westeros to band together against him so he can finish them all at once since the more people die the more his army grows. Tyrion and Dany were a highlight. I'm curious if Dany is really barren or if she's unwilling to reproduce.
The pacing of the show this season seems pretty off, since there are fewer episodes. My main problem with this episode is the things happened a little too conveniently, like Dany showing up just as things look lost.
Dude, your channel needs way more subs. I am a huge Star Wars and GOT fan and you are one of the only channels that I trust for information. Please never stop, and keep it up!!
I am totally with you that the episode didn't really mirror the original tale of the Last Hero enough. With only Thoros being killed off I wasn't sad at all, the episode was not that impactful to me than I expected, compared to the Red Wedding or Ned's death. Of course knowing on beforehand that a dragon would be killed and turned into a whight dragon (as it was spoiled for me) didn't help either.
That moment when you stop worrying about main characters and instead you are disappointed they didn't die. Like Bronn in ep 4 or Tormund in this one...
Levi Shackelton - still Dragonstone is 2000 miles away. Even if crows and dragons could fly supersonic speeds, Dany is just perched on Drogon with no saddle, wearing a thin fur coat, no hat and no goggles to protect her eyes.
I enjoyed this episode but everything was to obvious from the moment where jon snow's party was in the middle of the lake, the coming of daenerys, the death of the dragon and that the night king will revive him, even the coming of benjen, not as much as everything else but still i saw it coming before it happens...
They should of had the Night king throw the spear at Drogon but then Viserion flys in to save Drogon. It might be a bit hollywood but it would make more sense than the Night king ingoring a stationary target to hit a moving target. Plus the sationary target had people who are threats to his plan.
To me it seemed like Benjen was tired of fighting and wanted it to end. Like Saw Garrera from Rogue I: I shall run no longer. A 'undead' man stuck behind the wall with everything living now dead. What would you do?
I miss episodes like Baelor, The Rains of Castamere and Blackwater when we were still in book territory. It is a very different show now but I still enjoy it. I have ultimately lowered my expectations about the last seven episodes.
My opinion is when The Ice King touched Bran in his dream/ visions, like Voldemort and the Harry Potter shit he now has a connection knowing Brans thoughts and knowledge thus knowing about Danerys. That's my logical explanation for his trap.
Ye it looks great but theres no logic and nothing makes sense! To name a few... Gendry somehow knowing his way back through a frozen wasteland running for a whole day in a snow storm then a raven is sent to dany which would have taken days then dany flying back up north which would have taken at least a day... and the fellowship are still sitting on a rock unharmed and the water hasnt frozen over?!?!?! Not even gonna touch how the wights who are repelled by water swam down and attached 4 conveniently giant chains to a 100ton dragon smh
Dam you hit the nail on the head, were did they get those chains from, like really i don't think they made them, i am guessing that the white walkers don't possess great metallurgical skill or any at all, as there weapons are not made from metal, and i don't think there armor is made from metal or hides, because the army of the dead turns any animal they find. also i don't think that any wildlings would just hace left three massive metal chains, because most of them didnt even have enough metal to make weapons, most of them just used wood and bone weapons. so were did these chains come from, not didn't make them and they didn't find them, did they just have them already thinking meh these might come in handy if we happen to see a dragon, a creature that the white walkers haven't even seen yet. so yeah were did they get the chains from, major plot hole
scottr640 actually some guy calculated that they were actually on the island in the middle of the lake for 5 days, they had enough rations in their backpacks and the dragons can fly up to 500km/h
Nick Dwyer That would not make sense because the lake would have frozen well through by then! I know this because i'm from Sweden! That whole ice lake siege is any afternoon I forget the keys to my house! : )
There have been so many comments why the wights had large chains. The Night King sees Brans visions. The night king had three spears ready for three dragons. Only getting one and missing Drogon. The night king is bran somehow
Your videos are amazing, especially about the story of Westeros and LOTR. Thank you! However, personally I started watching you in 2015 after i watched videos about Warcraft. And I am still waiting for the continue! please make another WoW series!
The only part that left me scratching my head was the time it took for Gendry to run, send a raven and to fly back. That seemed incorrect. I think they wanted to suspense of being on a rock in a pond of ice but needed the time of a more protected environment. I thought that when they took Gendry's hammer, they'd use it to continually break the ice and thereby ward off the wights. Since wights aren't going to be destroyed by water, I figured they'd crawl on top of one another like ants under the water to eventually reach the crew. This may have taken days for them to figure out and required a large number of wights. I was envisioning the dragons collecting the men and then super heating the water boiling the wights to "death." Alas … I was not on the creative team. The rest of it I thought was great. I do NOT think the romance between Jon and Dany has been rushed at all. When people find other's they're attracted to, it's hard to keep yourself away from them, especially an emotional distance.
I agree with all your points... Jon shouldn't have knelt. Felt rushed. Whole episode was trash. It was good at parts but I just didn't agree with most of what happened. I hoped Dany wouldn't have helped them cause it seemed too cliche, but what ya gonna do?
8.5 is way too high of a rating. This episode was written so poorly. Visuals were amazing but when I was laughing at my screen because so few things made sense then pretty pictures don't matter much. There are so many quick fixes the writers could have done to piece together a more coherent story yet they didn't and submitted this convoluted mess.
Eric Yeah. I'd say it was maybe a 5 or 6. In my opinion this season so far has been the worst of all. It's had one good episode, "Spoils of War". Having Dany and Jon fuck is just going to push me over even more. Fuck the Dany and Jon ship.
yeah it seems way to high of a score, just so badly written and with no heros dying it seems like the series is losing its weight and impact, also John just leaving his uncle, the uncle that inspired him to join the knights watch that he hasn't seen for years? just unreal
scottr640 Or have the Night King raise his hand like he did in Hardhome, and the dragon breaks the ice from bellow and flies away. There are so many possibilities.
Even if she see the zombie do you think Cersei will order her armies north or will let the north get mostly destroyed to save her army until the threat is more immediate??
They squeezed to much things in ... and not enough time for story development. Could've used another 10-13 minutes of character development dialogue at Winterfell and Jon and Dany budding romance which seems forced, and more on Benjen, like how he survived and what happened to him.
I really love Game of Thrones, but this latest episode was disappointing. The cracks appeared in the last episode where I felt myself questioning what was going on and why characters were acting how they were; this flowed into this episode and a few more cracks appeared until I struggled to see it as Game of Thrones and instead only saw a really good looking TV show. It broke my immersion of the world and I really, really hope the finale puts the pieces back together.
Same with me man, I went to bed disappointed after watching it. Next morning I was going over just how nonsensical the shit was in my head. My immersion in the world has been broken for the time being at least.
I just felt like the ep was going so fast. I could never catch my breath and take in what happened. Still, give the ep a 7/10 This season overall is knocking it out of the park but they need to slow down a bit and let the Audience breath
Harmeet Dhillon - you're right. We should not let ONE misstep spoil the enjoyment of the episode. But there were so many that I actually lost count. Do you want me to list them for you?
i really like your reviews and how they cover noth pros and cons of the episodes. I feel like this season is getting a lot of hate just because theres no current book material to build off ao it makes it an easy target. There are real criticisms yes but it doesnt make the show terrible at all, and even then we dont even know how much it deviates from the book, for all we know this could be exactly what happens in the upcoming books. That being said i think the only issues i had with this episode was that i was expecting many more people to die, i thought that would have made this battle seem more impactful, viserions death was awesome in terms of storytelling because it really shows how powerful the white walkers are even against dragons and it changes the stakes dramatically. I think that major death scenes might be saved for the last season or the season finale so it may pay off well there. So out of episode the only real issue i had was that i didnt get a sense of the stakes aside from viserions death.
My favourite scene was when they were all just talking in pairs beyond the wall. Sure, it was kind of ham-fisted to just shove all the character development into one scene like that, but I enjoy seeing all the plots threads come together and how characters from opposite ends of the show interact and the stories they tell each other. All the action was a bit too dumb for my taste, although I thought Viserion's death looked very nice.
+CivilationEx how did you feel about the MULTIPLE mentions of Dany's lack of childbearing ability?? I feel like that was what was forced to me. Like, "Okay we get it! Jon & Dany are going to get pregnant! Enough foreshadowing" 😤 I think Jon will eventually sacrifice himself to save Dany & his unborn child.
It's been stated that dany couldn't have kids but could there be something elaborate like only someone like Jon could impregnate her because he's also a targaryen?
Whatculture's vid sorts out the continuity problems just fine, I am also worried about whether this will just turn the show into more spectacle and not enough drama, and that if they choose to put the emphasis back on the former, the payoff won't be as good.
Jon is a targaryen so maybe if he and Dany do their thing it can break the curse from mary mad dur. Only death can pay for life and now a dragon ( her child ) is dead. She may be able to have a child and continue the blood of valyria.
I really enjoyed the episode. Maybe there were a few things missing for some fans but it was complete for me. The convo btw Tormund and the hound was the best lol. And the blue eyes White dragon which I think breaths fire as well because I think he will be use to melt a path way for the walkers.
Here I completely agree with you. But I'm not sure they (Dany and Jon) are gonna get together. Didn't she said he was way too short? Plus, wouldn't it had happened already, instead they just give you awkward silence at the end of that scene. I have a sense she still in love with Jorah. Furthermore I would say is a fact she can't have babies, but I might be wrong on this one. I kinda hope they get together, but I seriously doubt it at this point. It definitely feels like a totally different universe than the books now, specially I've been missing Snow, and hoping the direwolf will make a great appearance on this mission, but further than that, I dislike the Sansa - Arya plot, what's up with that? can we see what's going on with Bran? It would have been nice to see the siblings work together to overcome Littlefinger, chasing back to the Fingers, no pun intended or something, and we might be surprised by this stupid plot...and not in a good way. The Others, the undead should stop working on the water, the spear even could have been at least a heavy ballista similar to the one used by Bronn, but frozen? ANd where the f are all the whitewalker cavalry? I dunno Benjen again? Can we see some of the other thousands of characters? it was cheesy at best. What's up with all this meetings?....definitely the show will reddeem itself if they introduce Howland Reed or something like that thou so he can tell Jon the truth about his heritage, or if they do something really awesome for Bran. Why can't Bran just show Jon he can warg, and take the Direwolf beyong the wall for f...sakes! make Bran do something!!!!
I do feel that Jon's last hero moment is still to come. I think it will be something like they remaining magnificent six plus nine more, seven humans, one horse, and one ghost (that's how I think it went anyway) then whilst beyond the wall again Jon will learn to do the fire sword thing to long claw and will kill the night King in a battle of ice (night King) and fire (Jon and a flaming long claw). As for the others (others as Jon's living comrades not others and in the white walkers and the wights) dying I feel the show will jump around showing close ups of the others battling and beating wights then it will show a close in of Jon vs night King then the carmera will revisit the living getting overwhelmed by wights and white walkers. But hey that's just my theory
My problem w/ this episode was and I think not a lot of people noticed it.. If a white walker is killed, supposedly the wights that he turned will also be killed or cease to function. This was evident when Jon and Co. came across a group of wights and Jon killed the leader(White Walker) of that group and all the wights dropped suddenly(ceasing to function), if that's the case then why was one still able to conveniently be kicking and screaming just so they could capture it? was it all just so the episode could progress? or are they being a little a sloppy w/ writing at this point?..lol #JustSaying
Gnob Osnulab - Yes. Sloppy. White Walkers have been killed before - that's how Jon finds out Valirian Steel can kill them. But we saw no exploding Wights in Hardhome. They're ignoring rules established in previous episodes and making up new rules where it's convenient.
Still, the rating is a bit too high in my opinion. Too much Deus ex machina and unlogical moments. It feels like we're losing the vibe and spirit of GRR Martin's writing, and I don't like it
It was a solid 7 for couple of reasons. I can let go of the timeline bs but what is going on with uncle Benjen !! thats not a good way to let him go!! And obviously the romance made me sick Im not a fan. Best moment was the NK killing Viserion ,it was epic finally we can have a ligit battle without Dany fucking burns everyone to ashes smh
Before the episode: "oh!! What a great team!! They are going to kick some wight butt!!! White walkers hacve no chance!" After the episode: "How come they've survived, they had no chance!" People, please, make up your minds!!!!
Eme Be Never heard anyone say "the Wights don't stand a chance ". All I read was: "what a stupid mission! They'll risk the lives of all this characters to bring a Wight, and it will achieve nothing. Cersei will never give up the Iron Throne, nor will she contribute in any way with the war against the Night King".. I saw people discussing who would die, and how many would survive. I saw people saying it was a suicide mission, and even calling really group the Suicide Squad. I did not see a single person say the little band of brothers was a threat to the WW or the w in any way.
For me, It look like the Knight King wants Jon captured and that why they didn't throw any missile at the group. Also why the Knight King threw it at the other Dragoon.
My favourite part was when Gendry went back to Eastwatch, but then the other companions went in a different direction entirely. I said out loud "where are they going!?" It's like someone told them that the writers needed them in the middle of a frozen lake. The writing in this was lazy and it was really disappointing. Especially seeing as we got some really cool (pun intended) fight scenes and great dialogue, mainly from The Hound.
One of the few Game of Thrones RUclipsrs who doesn't follow the sheep train and think this show can do no wrong. Along with RedTeamReview and Preston Jacobs, this is my go to Game of Thrones channel! Keep up the good work mate.
think it was the best episode of the season even though it had a few weird nonlogical thing in it. but i dont think they were on the island for one day, i think they were there for more than that (around 5 days). Its only when sandor throws the rock that the army of the dead cant get over. the metal chains that the white walkers got out of nowhere to pull the dragon out of the water, were probaly because they have found so much metal loot that they could make them. it doesnt say how much time it took to make them, maybe they used a week to do it or more. Gendry running through the snow storm is still a little weird though. stil the best episode of the season, just because of all that happened.
adi wiweka no i couldnt, but i dont have berrics fire from his sword, and i dont have all the food that they probaly were smart enough to take with them
Burge Budgie from what I have gathered he is still practicing wich is why the night king was able to repel him scouting on the army. He cant see everything yet only somethings.
I really love your lore videos and episode breakdowns but your reviews are just too happy and positive. The show sucks now. It's okay to be critical of it.
Wights have never been showed the ability to throw anything. So them throwing spears is probably not happening. Wights seem to never use their weapons. They go to teeth and claw as their only weapons.
Theresa Steward doesn't matter if the wrights couldn't throw, the white walkers could just have taken, a random spear from one of the wrights and thrown it.
Theresa - it's the White Walkers who have the spears. They were standing there the whole night. There were 5 spears I can see. With the precision he threw that javelin, he could have taken at least 5 companions during the night.
Story is coming to end & they wrapping up fast. There's not much wiggle room left now. Forget details nerds, Grab a beer & enjoy Jon's journey to Iron throne. Books ending coming up soon & I'm sure some people are gonna shit on GRRM for books ending too. You can't please everyone.
Because they force themselves onto people who don't want them. You make the Targaryens sound like the White Walkers when they're the furthest thing from that
Hasan Wilson Dany is forcing herself on Westeros when she has never been on the continent before. She feels *entitled* to it because her dad was king, regardless of what the people may want.
reeny G did the zealous Andals have a sense of entitlement when they left their home to bully the first men and take their lands or could they not swallow their pride and submit to the Dragonlords
Before anyone complains about how a raven flew to dragonstone so fast, a guy calculated that they were actually on that island for 5 days, and the dragons can fly up to 500km/h, so it it believable that a raven made it to dragonstone and dany made it to the wall.
Nick Dwyer That would not make sense because the lake would have frozen well through by then! I know this because i'm from Sweden! That whole ice lake siege is any afternoon I forget the keys to my house! : )

The night king won gold in javelin in the 1908 Olympic Games.
4:23, they were going to fall in love slowly, that was until dany saw them Abs. now see just cant resist.
Zebedee Totty: That only works when The Knower of Nothing is in a cave. It enhances his brooding aura to irresistible levels.

Best line of the episode: "Gingers are beautiful, they are kissed by fire, just like you." ~ Tormund
I liked the episode. They resolved few plots, the conversation between The Hound and Tormund was one of the best in this show.

Like Bronn in ep 4 or Tormund in this one...
I think the whole thing beyond the wall was a big trap by the night king. He somehow new that he could get himself a dragon.
Guellap dude how could you have possibly predicted that you should have been military commander
What if Jon's crew was only a few hours north of eastwatch? We don't know how far north they went before running into the dead army.
Levi Shackelton - still Dragonstone is 2000 miles away. Even if crows and dragons could fly supersonic speeds, Dany is just perched on Drogon with no saddle, wearing a thin fur coat, no hat and no goggles to protect her eyes.
Also, magic.
Levi Shackelton Even in Harry Potter universe, magic has its limits. Or the Weasley would conjure up lots of gold and not be poor.
NutsinBrazil magic literally has no limits.
NutsinBrazil unless you can prove that magic doesn't work that way in the GOT universe then you can't say it isn't magic. GL.
How cool is that new fast travel feature in the season 7 update?
And supersonic ravens haha

To me it seemed like Benjen was tired of fighting and wanted it to end. Like Saw Garrera from Rogue I: I shall run no longer.
A 'undead' man stuck behind the wall with everything living now dead. What would you do?
Months must've past since the last episode, how is Cercei not in labor already?
He used an ice javelin not a spear ... Spears are for thrusting, javelins are for throwing ....
Can't wait for the leak
Q&A Q&A Why was the Maester Qyburn dragon crossbow so revolutionary when the Nights Watch have them shooting of THE WALL in earlier seasons???
The best question is why didnt dondarrion and thoros use the fure seords for heat if they can burn bodies with it

Enough foreshadowing" 😤
I think Jon will eventually sacrifice himself to save Dany & his unborn child.
Did I miss something? Isn't Dany (technically) Jon's aunt? If she is, then maybe it's for the best that she cannot have any more kids.
Both are targaryens,makes sense.
After this season finale, they ARE Targaryens. ;-)
You must have missed the videos showing how most Targaryens married/have children with their own. 😂
It's been stated that dany couldn't have kids but could there be something elaborate like only someone like Jon could impregnate her because he's also a targaryen?
I'm routing for the nights king now he is 100% bad ass after spearing viserion like that.
We as fans cannot expect the living to win with only two dragons.
Whatculture's vid sorts out the continuity problems just fine, I am also worried about whether this will just turn the show into more spectacle and not enough drama, and that if they choose to put the emphasis back on the former, the payoff won't be as good.
10/10 on looks 4/10 on writing 10/10 on dragons, 3/10 score because fuck averages. This episode sucked.
I hated how the Hound was such an unnecessary prick to ppl. He was so annoying and rude.
Bec SocSci He's a typical, grumpy, old ScotsMan and, funny asf to boot. I Love the Dog. He's a Legend, with a smart gob!!
GRRM would have written this in episode in a whole book :D
This was evident when Jon and Co. came across a group of wights and Jon killed the leader(White Walker) of that group and all the wights dropped suddenly(ceasing to function), if that's the case then why was one still able to conveniently be kicking and screaming just so they could capture it? was it all just so the episode could progress? or are they being a little a sloppy w/ writing at this point?..lol
#JustSaying
Gnob Osnulab - Yes.
Sloppy.
White Walkers have been killed before - that's how Jon finds out Valirian Steel can kill them. But we saw no exploding Wights in Hardhome.
They're ignoring rules established in previous episodes and making up new rules where it's convenient.
I subscribed to all of the major GOT channels, and this is one of if not the best review of this ep
Still, the rating is a bit too high in my opinion. Too much Deus ex machina and unlogical moments.
It feels like we're losing the vibe and spirit of GRR Martin's writing, and I don't like it
That's crazy in thought for sure a 9 or 9.5 just cause their left alot of stuff.. Like bran what is he doing
this episode was a disaster man. 8,5??? no way 4/10
It was a solid 7 for couple of reasons.
Before the episode:
"oh!! What a great team!! They are going to kick some wight butt!!! White walkers hacve no chance!"
After the episode:
"How come they've survived, they had no chance!"
People, please, make up your minds!!!!
Lionheart X-ray 0 he threw spears and his name is night he is no knight
can night king revive the dragons under king's landing
Pavlaka Tomato the dragons under kings landing are literally skeletons. We've seen the skull of Balerion. Is the Nk gunna bring back a skull? No.
Tumbleweed eh, they have skeletons in their armies, i dont see why they woudnt use dragon skeletons
it was a beautiful episode, its got some issues with the timeline and all of that, but still.. it was amazing
Because if they all ran in the same direction they would be chased down and killed? Men tire, wights don't.
One of the few Game of Thrones RUclipsrs who doesn't follow the sheep train and think this show can do no wrong. Along with RedTeamReview and Preston Jacobs, this is my go to Game of Thrones channel! Keep up the good work mate.
He has to breath fire if he wants' to break a hole through the wall
hole*
And i dont think theyre going through the wall, most likely around it
think it was the best episode of the season even though it had a few weird nonlogical thing in it.
but i dont think they were on the island for one day, i think they were there for more than that (around 5 days).
Frederik Foss 5 days? could you survive with that weather for 5 days ? without food or whatever
adi wiweka no i couldnt, but i dont have berrics fire from his sword, and i dont have all the food that they probaly were smart enough to take with them
the fire would keep them warm
you give that episode a 8.5?.....WUT? I'd like to know what other episodes would score less coz this was the worst one ive seen so far
i like the images.
The saltiness of people in the comments lmao. It's his opinion for rhllor sake!
I hated the dragon died danny now might have to kill it in the future
And best line by far was..He died 6 timrs and you csnt hear bitching about it
Looks great and action scenes are great but it makes fuck all sense
It's a fantasy world, i love it all.
Why doesn't bran just expose Littlefinger already
Burge Budgie from what I have gathered he is still practicing wich is why the night king was able to repel him scouting on the army. He cant see everything yet only somethings.
I really love your lore videos and episode breakdowns but your reviews are just too happy and positive. The show sucks now. It's okay to be critical of it.
Don't think the last hero is a good idea for the tv show. That's more or less harpy potter bullshit
I thought this was the worst episode in the entire series
Great content...new subbie
Thank you! :)
it was meh, everything written post books is sub par
jpatche dude I'm so disappointed in people living up to the sheep trope this show jus literally jumped off a 700ft wall
Nice
Wights have never been showed the ability to throw anything. So them throwing spears is probably not happening. Wights seem to never use their weapons. They go to teeth and claw as their only weapons.
Theresa Steward yet at the end they could emerge out of the water but here it was not possible because story
Yeah he could have frozen the lake with one touch too but he didn't. He was waiting for the rescue.
8.5? Bruh!
I love game of thrones but Star Wars content ?
Hello (=
That Hello Guy Hello
That Hello Guy i
Well, if you think so. (=
52...
Let's hope the final episode is better than this pile of cheesy deus ex machina(s). Not holding my breath though.
I loved this episode although I will admit I completely look over all problems with this show so I'm probably a biased opinion
Watch this RUclips video named "Game of thrones 7x6 white walkers explained" from Gray Area. It makes to much sense.
A dragon dying gives this episode an automatic big fat 0/10
Hasan Wilson come on, this is Game of Thrones
sinistersharkfish if they can keep Tormand alive then they can keep all three dragons aliive
Hasan Wilson they are exactly alike Dany has a sense of entitlement she does not deserve
reeny G did the zealous Andals have a sense of entitlement when they left their home to bully the first men and take their lands or could they not swallow their pride and submit to the Dragonlords
Hasan Wilson they had a choice to change the bully on bully attitude in Essos. Compromise is always an option
Before anyone complains about how a raven flew to dragonstone so fast, a guy calculated that they were actually on that island for 5 days, and the dragons can fly up to 500km/h, so it it believable that a raven made it to dragonstone and dany made it to the wall.
Nick Dwyer
That would not make sense because the lake would have frozen well through by then! I know this because i'm from Sweden! That whole ice lake siege is any afternoon I forget the keys to my house! : )
Nick Dwyer yea how bout nick you go to Antarctica and stand on a rock in the middle of a frozen lake for 5 days
first
Iron Studios ok dad
I loved it. it gave me wood
