I fucking had this exact interaction with my DM. Dude wouldn’t ever let you make your own character. Every backstory had to be cleared with him. Something about no warlocks. Your characters goals had to align with his. On the surface, doesn’t sound so bad, until you realize the guy basically only would approve characters that sucked off his own and made his world look really good. Ffs one of my proposed characters was “My parents got murdered and I’m looking for their killer”. That was it. And the dude said no cause it wasn’t compelling enough. Hate guys like that.
As far as banning classes go, warlocks are the least unreasonable. Simply existing as a warlock requires the GM to accommodate a certain cosmology to the world that allows a patron to exist. I had problems with warlocks for this exact reason before. But yeah, railroading during character creation sucks.
@@Yobyman Bad DM cannot work with the plot he's given. Throw in funky encounters if the idea is boring or make the premise itself interesting. Ever seen Once Upon A Time In The West? DM is there for the players, not the other way around.

I get turning down people for having Mary Sue characters, but the dude always talked about his world and how he was working on it because he hated WOTC, and 5e, but never bothered to try and come up with his own Module. Kept talking about his brand name but never actually came up with one. Hyper full of himself and trying to enjoy a power fantasy. When I DM I write the basic story outline, prepare a session for the first one, then as my players turn in their backstories I fill out my storyboard with things about their characters
As a DM myself, “I just don’t feel like it tonight” is an indication something is wrong. I run a tight knit group we have all stuck our necks out for one another. Instead of pressuring like an entitled ass, Dagoth, you really ought to see what’s up with the Nerevar. If needed change dnd to another game just for that night.
Nerevar seemed on edge and agitated from the start. I mean Dagoth Ur is a God and forever DM he would instantly be able to tell if a character starts out too strong. I think the issue is that Dagoth Ur haven't activated windows.
