When using the vernier caliper to measure the distance from the motor to the top of the gear, turn the tool around, extend the pin out the bottom and then push the in the tool until it meets the gear. Love the videos!
That chassis is robust, and not a bad design. Wondering if you could put another body on it? At first I wasn’t sure about this kit, now you’ve changed my mind Gav. I’m impressed with this kit. Another top notch video Gav!
Love the looks of the Squash Van, I am just not sure on that chassis. It's an interesting way to do things but not especially great for us tinkerers out there. Thanks Gav for the great video.
Looks a lovely build but just don't get why Tamiya have put in metal drive cups and dogbones but only supply plastic bearing in a kit that currently costs £216 in the UK, yet you can still pick up a Dark Impact buggy for £160 and it has a full bearing set.
Absolutely. I can understand friction shocks but those plastic bearings are a throwback to the late seventies. They must move with the times as the competition is fierce now. Tamiyas are all about the build but the basic fundamentals should be supplied with the kit.
Pre-ordered mine with Horizon here in the states - And as usual they passed over & took more day of orders . Love the look of kit - can't wait ! Some exciting months to come of more Tamiya kits becoming avalible
I’ve built the Dynahead which is on the G6-01Tr chassis. So, two more wheels. So that’s more bearing for the gearbox, more bearings for the wheels, AND they have gear reduction portal axles. Those portal axels add something like 6 extra bearing PER wheel!
I've built that one, too. I remember buying the bearings for the portal axles extra, since the bearing set I got only came with the ones for the base chassis.
I am very surprised (although not disappointed) that Tamiya decided to tool a new chassis for this rather than reuse the G6-01 chassis and plug the center axle hole.
Great video Gavin! A very unique chassis, that I have only ever seen in some Tamiya tanks of the 1980's. It should prove to be a very reliable drive train! I like the full build video's but I appreciate the hours that go into a project like this. Thumbs up!
As in everything in a single video? I can't produce them in such a short time period, plus having an unboxing video, chassis build video and a body paint and run video helps with the view count as one build is over three videos. If I have all that in a single video, I just lost two thirds of my view count and that will shut down the channel in weeks. If I do that all in one video, it never do the same or more views as three. I tried it in the past as I would rather do one big video a week but it doesn't work for RCKicks while being so small.
Tamiya has a certain cool factor about them but I must say, it's like you had to have grown up with Tamiya to really get into it. I got a tt02 kit and was very, I don't know how you say it, ah I guess is the word lol. Toy grade plastic, Phillips hardware, friction shocks, bushings...they just leave a lot to be desired in their kits lol.
Really nice build video Gavin . I am going to rant a little. Everyone knows Tamiya’s aren’t designed for much more than running up and down the driveway. 40 odd years ago bashing was unheard of but I’d still jump my buggies off home made ramps and watch them shatter on hitting the ground! 😂😂. But these days to put something out with a brushed motor, the most insanely power sapping drivetrain, bushes and friction shocks just isn’t, in my opinion, acceptable. Then to spend more to upgrade those parts and you’re knocking on the door of buying something so much more capable! It’s fine to make racing buggies and cars for mainly indoor racing. But stick to that don’t just take people’s money on something that let’s face it is pretty crap, although nice looking and not much use for anything more than an expensive ornament! Can’t wait to see your body painted up though, you always do lovely paintwork. Cheers
Bag A, Bag B and Bag C in each container. Trees are left to right A,B,C,D Body and decals stay in the box until the chassis is finished. All electronics together and my tools on the right.
I'd like the look of this thing for the most part it looks like it could use decent shocks but nothing new for tamiya and that steering setup looks a little sketchy with it hanging off the side of the chassis like that.
It’s sad they used that chassis. It’s not a great design. It’s workable for the 6x6 vehicles but in 2023 they can take the time to design something new.
So many bad design decisions on that chassis, imagine how much lighter and how much less rotational mass it would have with a simple prop shaft. Also, why oh why do they keep building the wishbones mounts into the gearbox housings, just so easy to smash them out due to the leverage of the long truck wishbones. It will happen all too easily and it’s an expensive and time consuming fix on this. I can’t believe how much pensive this kit is considering it comes with plastic bearings and friction dampers. Sorry Tamiya not good enough. The competition are offering much better value for money. Good build vid though, thanks
Man that thing has enough gears to start a fire with all that friction! Bearings a must!
I like your gear greasing method. I might give it a try.
I’ve seen clocks with less gears than that! lol. Looks like a really fun build.
When using the vernier caliper to measure the distance from the motor to the top of the gear, turn the tool around, extend the pin out the bottom and then push the in the tool until it meets the gear.
Love the videos!
Wanted to note that, too. This is also useful for measuring the length of non-countersunk screws or the depth of screw holes.
Awesome build Gav. Thanks for the shout out! 🎉
That was fun to watch. I liked it
Ps16 is my favorite blue as well.. that’s gonna look great..
Great build video, thank you.
Nice technique with the grease on brush, will save on running out half way through.
If I am not mistaken, reminds me of the older TL01 chassis builds… neat looking truck!
Like the change in music

Thanks. This kit has grown on me I must say. It has that classic Tamiya feel about it.
I can almost smell the Tamiya-ness in those bags from here! And don’t forget your JS fit screwdrivers…..
Nice build and nice music!
I love the look of the Squash Van, not entirely sold on that chassis though, but it did look like a good, fun build ;)
Nice relaxing build video Gavin
Nice music 🙂
Dig the music! :)
Love watching the build videos. Nice chilled out video 👍🏻
Lol box art is so yesterday!!!

Can't wait 'till I get mine.
👍👍

Actually late 70’s at least had Bronze bushings in most things even Tamiya. The SRB chassis buggies had bronze oilites

Hahahaha I love the ”not the box art part” 😂😂❤️

Not going box art?? Thats completely...splendid idea.

Mate that was well bloody said and needs saying more often , nice one
@@user-ry1jm9hw6w only my opinion but, thanks
I said the same thing not too long ago and got attacked by the loyal Tamiya fans , my rant was chiefly about the new BBX.
@@diamond66ist everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as we all recognise it’s just an opinion. No one needs to get arsey about it.
I don't know, man. I think it needs a few more gears and bearings.
Just kidding. 😂 Thanks for the build vid.
Can u make a vid on how you arrange things in boxes etc before u start to build a new kit?

any reason why you not usesing spray grease
Sponsored by GU pots of joy!
Well spotted :)
BTW, I hope you have had your heating repaired!
Yep all fixed!
@@RCKickschannel, whereabouts in the UK are you?, coz my heating is still borked. I could use a reliable heating engineer. I'm in Cheshire.
Great build Gav. Nice and chilled with my morning coffee.
Is there a reason you don't use an electric screwdriver? Save your wrist for better things 😂
Ratchet screwdriver works fine but I do have an electric driver
I don't understand this Modell, 12 gears....
Whats the wheelbase?, is it the same like the G6-01?
What size bearings does she use?
Mostly 1150

I feel this is a updated 4wd chassis for a monster beetle so I guess we will get a beetle shell🤷
Wouldn't mind myself a von squash 😂 at some point
Not copying the box art? I'm for it! 🙂 Forgot to say in comment on earlier video that a rat rod look should be tried by someone!
