I used to use a brand new X-Acto blade for the stickers. You can just score around the outside of the sticker, and then they peel off the sheet, instead of fighting to get the backs off and cut around with scissors. Second i get a spray bottle of water and a drop of dish soap. and you spray the body down where youre putting the sticker. This allows you to slide it around like a water slide decal to get in the right place, instead of peal back up and damaging em. Once its where you want it, press the water out, with your fingers or a credit card and they stick permanent. Also youre spot on about the hairdryer to get em to bend around curves. I Miss putting the cars together, and paintin em. Thanks I enjoyed your vid.
I've tried the X-Acto method, but for some reason, I find it harder to control that blade than I do using scissors. It's the part I enjoy the least when building a new kit, but I guess it's all part of the experience. Haha. Thanks for watching! 👊🏼

Those covers are there simply because that part tree is for the TL01, hence the covers. Same is also used on the MF-01X. WR02 (Wild Willy 2) also use the same parts. For you shocks you could also have used longer rod end. Some kits have spare rod ends you can use. I love the GF series my son got the 4wd dumper truck and it turned out awesome but I would advise against the 4 wheel steer. The 6 wheelers kinda cope better with the extra steering but the shorter trucks just don't need it.
Oh man, it sure is! My only concern is that we're getting SO much rain right now, my camera will be covered in droplets the whole time, and you guys won't see anything... hahaha. I need a little break from the down pour. 🙏

The more flake, the better! There's a TON of surface area, so it'll look amazing! Just be sure to use really good masking tape so you get a clean, crisp mask line. The kit supplied decals will hide paint errors where the 2 colors meet, but they're kinda hoakey. 👊🏼
PoorboysRC that's looks absolutely spectacular and stunning. I wasn't so sure about this until now I've seen it built and I bet it looks even nicer in person like not on a video. I'm in Australia and these are pre order at this stage , but until now I wasn't really sure. Now this video has made my decision a lot easier. It looks beautiful. And it's a lot bigger than traditional Tamiya RC cars and buggies. But I suppose it scale of a Ford F series truck. Id love to see a running video of this truck and how the gear drive internals run compared to shaft drive traditional Tamiya chassis. And the Super stock TZ motor should be great too. I've got 2 Super stock RZ motots one each in a Hot Shot and a Super Hot Shot.I use a nvision 2s lipo and a 13 tooth pinion gear plus full Ball bearings and the Super Hot Shot gets 28 miles per hour.( 45 kilometres per hour here in Australia ) and it wheel stands. But getting back to your squash van it's beautiful. Oh yeah it just hit me.! Squash and Pumpkin are both the same type of vegetables. So this is like paying homage to the Midnight Pumpkin from the 1980's.and it's styled as a 1950's Ford pickup truck . Oh Man!it's been all over RUclips and the internet for the entire year at least and I just realised that. Squash is just like Pumpkin and it's got Pumpkin decals too. AWESOME MAN 👌👍💪
Don't feel bad, mate. I didn't realize that pumpkins were a squash until I read the comments in my last video. 😆😆😆 Back to the Von Squash... She's a beauty! The body is massive! I think I'll do a size comparison video for you guys next (seeing as how I've got nothing but rain in the forecast). I'd love to see one in a Midnight Pumpkin livery. Black with blue flames... 🤤 🤤 🤤
Great build Fil and awesome tips. These gear covers are on the tree, because it comes from the Wild Willy kit, so my guess. Most WR and CB chassis have this tree, too. Which means the oil filled shocks from the Comical cars might fit also to this chassis.
A-Ha! Thanks for the input, Dirk. I wasn't sure why those parts were there. I was thinking maybe there was a shaft-driven model coming out in the future.
Hey Fil😃, Beautiful paint job mate!!, we were waiting impatiently for you to peal the film😂perfect lines too👌. We're glad you had the nice shocks for it👍. What a beauty! Great overview. The battery dilemma is recurring until I find either a model with a good compartment or a battery that is mostly universal. I have been looking for some "shotgun shell packs" lipos...
Typical Tamiya, not conforming to the norm... Haha. I wish they'd design their new kits to be more lipo friendly. I mean, they're modifying rere kit battery trays to accept lipo's. Why not design your new kits to accept them, too??? 🤦
Hey that looks epic Fil. This is the first one of these that I've seen other than the box art and it really looks great. I think that this is going to be a load of fun and I look forward to your test drive. Good idea to go with oil shocks as they are more reliable than the rubber tube ones that get clogged up. Top work my friend 😁👍👍
Thanks pal! I used bearing that I had accumulated in my parts bin. Mostly "Fast Eddy" brand. 90% of the bearings in the GF02 are the same size. I don't have the dimensions, but it's the same size bearing that's used in the Grasshopper/Hornet/Lunchbox gearbox. Monster Beetle/Blackfoot front wheels. 👊🏼

@@poorboysrc the normal white top and met/red below. The cobalt green was not for me.
@@BasBoyRC ooooh, that would be nice! Send pics!!! Haha!
@@poorboysrc I'm doing a full slow build video's. But will need the weather to paint a bit cold here.
@@BasBoyRC Same here, pal. The hair dryer is an invaluable tool when spraying paint in the cold weather. Heat up the body with the hair dryer, go outside, lay down a light coat, repeat... Works like a charm!
Great looking Build. Parts trees are from the TL01 hence the gear covers
Thanks for watching! 👊🏼
Great build Fil. Looking forward to the running vid👍
Thanks, brother! Can you stop the rain for me, please??? 🤣🤣🤣
@@poorboysrc 🤣
Great video as always 😊.
The steering and suspension parts trees are originally from the classic TL01 chassis, that's why you have so many spare plastic parts.
Aha!!! Thank you!!! I was wondering why all the strange parts? Are they planning some sort of external shaft-drive chassis, or something? Haha. Cheers! 🍻👊🏼
Fil! That is epic buddy!! I was holding off on this but you might have just tipped me over the edge pal! Great work bud. That pearl white on the roof is the boss 🙌🏻
I can see this rig flattening the mole hills at the OR! 🐹 🔨 🤣🤣🤣
@@poorboysrc
Lol.... Nah mate, he will probably roll it on an apple before he reaches the mole hills on creation corner!! 😂
Sorry Craig.... I couldn't resist mate!
😉 👍 👍 👍
Wicked video Fil man. The van squash is definitely on my radar now. 😊
Thanks, brother! If you haven't already, watch the running video I aired today. If you were on the fence with the Squash Van, this will push you right over! Hahaha! 😆😆😆👊🏼
Can't wait to see it in action and see a few more build/review videos... i think this kit looks like a winner...
If only the rain would stop!!! Arrrgh! I'm dying to take it out for a rip!
I did put together another video on the VS this week, it'll be ready for your viewing pleasure in a day or two! 👊🏼
First, that's a lot of plastic bushings. Wow that body is is gorgeous, excellent video Fil! 4:54
I was gonna make a plastic bushing necklace and mail it to you for Christmas. Hahahaha! 👊🏼😉
@@poorboysrc throw in a tshirt and stickers would yaa! Hahaha just kidding 😂
Or maybe that Rc10 on that shelf🤣🤣
@@JeepsCafe Heck yeah buddy, you're due for a new tee! What size are ya?
@@JeepsCafe Well now you're just acting crazy! 🤣🤣🤣
Come up to the great White North some time, and we'll take her for a little rip! 😃
Van Squash! Nice!!
It's got a nice ring to it, right? 🤣
As for the extra parts that chassis is about 80% TL01 so must be same as a TL parts tree! Would be badass is you fitted the TL01B a-arms and drive shafts say from a Baja Champ be a proper wide boy then! 😉👌
That's interesting, and no wonder I didn't recognize them, I've never owned a TL01. But you're right, imagine a wide body Von Squash??? 🤤
What a looker!
Also great video edditing with the build tipps and so on.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad the vid was helpful! Stay tuned for a running video, coming soon! 😁
I love the GF series my son got the 4wd dumper truck and it turned out awesome but I would advise against the 4 wheel steer. The 6 wheelers kinda cope better with the extra steering but the shorter trucks just don't need it.
You're right about that. The 2WS is more than enough on this truck. Especially with the high center of gravity! 4WS would be more of a hindrance. 👌🍻
lovely build, great paint
Thanks so much! I appreciate the excellent comment!
Awesome video Fil...love the Van Squash! Cant wait to see it ripping down the beach!
Thanks pal! Fingers crossed the rain stops for a few hours today and I can get it out for a rip. 😎💨💨💨
Looks great, cant wait for the running video. not gonna lie running rcs in the rain and mud is fun
Oh man, it sure is! My only concern is that we're getting SO much rain right now, my camera will be covered in droplets the whole time, and you guys won't see anything... hahaha. I need a little break from the down pour. 🙏
Van Squash! Looking forward to the run, 65mm shocks look like a perfect fit 👌
They fit perfect! And the big bore look really provides an aggressive look to the truck. 👊🏼
It turned out looking great Fil! I do like you went with the Van Squash just to make it a little bit different and fun! I am probably going to go way out in left field with mine! It has shipped finally and should be here by the end of the week! Thanks for the run through of the build!
Thanks, brother! The Von Squash is alive, and ready to rock! Just need this frickin' rain to stop! Haha! Looking forward to your build, pal! 🍻
Nice touch with the pearl...I might use lame flake on my cobalt color too. Can't wait to get this one! Definitely buying some oil shocks.
Back to the Von Squash... She's a beauty! The body is massive! I think I'll do a size comparison video for you guys next (seeing as how I've got nothing but rain in the forecast). I'd love to see one in a Midnight Pumpkin livery. Black with blue flames... 🤤 🤤 🤤
good info . building mine right now 👍 paint schemes 🤔
You're gonna love it!
That pearl paint looks killer Fil, nice choice!.
Hopefully we see them in Oz and not too expensive, we now want one. Thanks for sharing your tips n tricks and build video Fil. We hope you're having an awesome week👍😁🙋♀️🦘🇦🇺
Thanks buddy! I'm really happy with the pearl, it looks so good! Hopefully we get some sunshine and I can run out and film a good action video soon. And I'm sure the GF-02's will land in Oz soon, pal. I think you'll love it! The body is awesome, and if the chassis is as reliable as the G6-01 is, I'm sure it'll be a winner! 😉🍻👊🏼
@@poorboysrc
Thanks mate!, I hope you get some nice weather too, hope you don't scratch the beautiful Van Squash in a roll-over or something, your chassis looks great and we love the body, nice build Fil 👌
Wow, very cute 🤩 TZ Motor, to the Moon 🚀 🙃 Thanks for this build video 🤝
TZ looks so nice! Hopefully it's a good fit for the Van Squash! 💨💨💨
Nice paint job on the vintage looking body . Great video
Thanks for watching, and commenting. Long live the Von Squash! 😆
That looks fantastic. I see you went with the TZ motor excellent choice by the way i would of said the BZ because its for off road use and comes with a sponge filter to protect it from dirt entering any way nice job 👌
My initial thought was to go with the BZ, but I didn't have one available at the time, and I swore I did... I must've used it on another project. This is my first time using a TZ, so we'll see how she goes! 💨🌴💨
Super Nice!!!
Thanks for watching! 👊🏼
Great job mate looks amazing 👌👍
Thanks for watching, Mark! 👊🏼
Looks great!!!
Thanks dude! And thanks for taking the time to comment! 👊🏼🍻
Awesome truck and a great choice of electronics 👍 need running videos now 😀
Thanks dude! As soon as that rain stops, you know I'll be out there! 👊🏼👌
I must have one of these.
You guys will love it! It'll be a good basher if it's anything like it's cousin, the Konghead. 👊🏼
Nice video a rpm blower would look great on that body
Oh man, I was thinking that, too. But paint the body like a Midnight Pumpkin... ahhhh... 🤤 🤤 🤤
@@poorboysrc i think a set of JConcepts Renegades Jr 2.2 would look better on it too
This kit looks awesome! I wonder how different it is from the GF-01 chassis? I have a heavy Duty Dump Truck and that thing is a wheelie monster!
I still don't own a GF-01 (somehow), so I can't do a side by side comparison, unfortunately. 😭
Very nice.!! 👍 👍 👍
Thanks for watching! 👊🏼
Thanks, Pete! I can't wait to get her out for a proper break-in session! 💨💨💨
I bet this would look great with a woodgrain motif.
Oooooh, you're the first person to suggest that, and you're so right! 🤩
Beautiful build! What ball bearing set did you get and how many bags? Thanks!!!
Nice :) Gonna soak this video right up!
Soak it up, my man! Haha! Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it! 👊🏼😉

Excellent Video! You did a great job. What weight of oil did you put in the shocks. I have the same ones for mine and the Van arrives tomorrow.
Aaaahhhh, busted! You gotta watch the full video, amigo! Lol! 18:08 has your answer. Cheers!
Ah, I missed that part for some reason. The Hard silicone is the same in the TD2 and TD4. I may just try 30wt.@@poorboysrc
That's a kit I would like to get early in the new year, I have spent way too much on Tamiya this Christmas 🙂
Just looking at the headlights and Wonder if it's possible to fit the headlights from Bronco body?
The body turned out great, look forward to seeing it running and those shocks look so good 👍
Hmmmm, I wonder if they'd work.... I'd check if I had one, but unfortunately I don't. But with a little creative tinkering, I'm sure a guy could make it work! 😉
@@poorboysrc just had a look at my CC01 and CR01, I think Tamiya missed out there with not giving that body some light buckets
@@adrianharrison5208 yeah it sure would look good with some LED's in there, wouldn't it?
Oh, and are you the same Adrian Harrison as Van Isle Disco? 🤔
@@poorboysrc no that's not mean, what is van isle disco?
@@adrianharrison5208 Oh, OK. I had to ask. Van Isle Disco (Vancouver Island Discovery) is another RUclipsr who also lives on Van Isle, like I do. His channel focuses on him off-roading in his Land Rover Discovery, which I also drive. I thought, if it's the same guy, this'd be way too cool!
I have a really dumb question. You pulled off some sort of protective film off the shell. Does it come like that or is that something you applied yourself? Cheers from the UK!
No dumb questions here, pal. Feel free to ask, always. 👊🏼
That protective film is overspray film. All new lexan bodies come with it. Since you paint the inside of the body, you don't want any paint on the outside. This film will protect your body from overspray. And it's the most satisfying thing in the world when you remove it, and see that shiny, fresh paint job! 🤩👊🏼👌
@@poorboysrc Thanks man!
@@eddiemanuk1983 any time! 😀
I like the pearl idea, might go clear pearl all over
That would be pretty wicked, man! You might need two cans of the white pearl, though. It's a really big body, and that white pearl doesn't cover well.
Van is Dutch for von 😉
Is it actually? So my "Van Squash" name actually checks out in Dutch? YESSS!!!! You just made my day! 🤣👊🏼💥

Awesome video. Thought of getting this toy, but I think it’s a pass😂. Just found you channel and I gotta say the name of your channel sure doesn’t reflect your content as you have so much RC’s on the wall and mods done to your toys😂. Very ironic! I would say a real poor rc guy would have less RC’s on his wall and probably less mods I would think🤣. Great content though. Keep up the great work on the toys!☺️
Hey Christopher, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm definitely not a poor boy, more of a "financially secure middle aged man." LOL! But that doesn't have the same ring to it... 🤣
But no, the name Poor Boys RC is an homage to my past, and the past that many of us had as kids in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. I grew up extremely poor, and would stay up at night reading through my Tower Hobbies catalogs, Tamiya books, etc. and dream of driving all these great cars some day.
