"Guy who used to make an Infowars knockoff is now doing videos about the Face of Mars!" In all seriousness, the idea that the individual members of a society can achieve in the service of a higher goal, and the higher goal is something other than "get the president's hotel company a tax break" is pretty noble to me. And her goal-orientedness is both heartening and intimidating, which is how you can tell I'm too old to be an astronaut. I got hope for her. She'll do well.
I'm not trying to be negative but I wonder how much something like this sets her back financially. I'm sure her parents pay for it all but I'm curious how accessible is this career for the lower class child.
There are probably thousands of einsteins in america, millions in the world, but because they don't have rich parents we will never know what they're capable of
@@snivy8776 You don't need to work for a space agency to get suborbital training. All you need is some basic trigonometry and scuba diving skills, five days off in your calendar, and $3500.
Don't care she's a woman. I love her passion, and she's so young. It takes a lot to get selected to be an astronaut, but I just think how hard people like her and others worked just to be on the selection list let alone actually be selected. Her, and people like her really inspire me and poeple who my boys and girls can look up to. Youngest daughter is really into planes and flight vehicles. She has a passion, but when I get her to a NASA facility to tour, here in Texas or Florida, I'm sure she will enjoy it and maybe it will ingnite something to keep her dreams of flying very much alive.
I think this was filmed at the NASA facility in Huntsville AL, they do space camps, so that could be an option for her as well. A lot of my friends went to space camp there & I was always so jealous bc we couldn't afford it. I hope your kids grow up to do amazing things like this young lady (funny enough my oldest daughter is named Alyssa like her, but my alyssa has no interest in space lol.)
would be cool if she makes up but realistically if the tech advances to the point we can go to mars and return safely it will be the people who design the new age space craft not those who train the old way. That get to take that trip
I think it's just to dumb it down for the general public. Like when people say they know Hiragana instead of saying they can write Japanese and then have to start explaining. Interestingly she speaks both French and Spanish, I probably would have taken Russian as a fourth language if I'm interested in being an astronaut.
@@blafoon93 this would make sense if two whole regions of the world wrote just in hiragana and just in katakana. It's a little more than simplifying if two mainstream Sinitic varieties are clubbed under one Oriental term
@@blafoon93 just to clarify, Hiragana is a written system and so is katakana. On the other hand, some Sinitic varieties aren't even understood by speakers of other varieties.
Literally impossible. Waste of money and even if somehow she managed to get there, she would quickly proceed to perish. These resources need to be focused on fixing problems on this planet first, before we could even think about inhabiting some other planet, which would actually give a chance of going somewhere else.
Five days of training at the Advanced Possum Space Academy does not give you an applied astronomy degree, you'd need to go to university for a few years to get one and she was still in high school when this was filmed. What is she on about.
@@truthseekeralways7050 Male astronauts that spend months in space have been known to develop a form of vision impairment that is similar to blurred vision. Female astronauts to date have not experienced this issue. Since being able to see is quite critical for any mission, it is considered to be necessary to solve this issue before sending men to Mars. Also (and I don't remember if this is mentioned in the video), women generally score better on certain psychological parameters that are considered to be necessary for long-term isolation and teamwork in a small spacecraft. In other words, women are generally better at dealing with psychological pressure and are better at solving problems by working together. For whatever sociological or biological reasons.
For people that think her family’s super rich or something, I just learned that she was raised by her dad only and grew up (upper?) middle class. Her dad really supports her, and invests heavily financially and emotionally to get her closer to her dreams. When she was too long to “make it happen”, her dad noticed her pure passion and sacrificed to make it happen. Respect to him. Doing what he did for her was the ultimate dad move. America would really take off again if we had more parents like him doing whatever they can to get their children to “that point”. Lastly, Alyssa has done A LOT just as a teenager. I really hope her hard work pays off. She has clearly demonstrated that she wants this astronaut thing badly enough. I’m here for it, and really support her! Oh, and this was a super fun video ofc 😊🙌🏽🎊
I remember when I first heard about her. People were saying dumb stuff like she isn't being allowed to enjoy her childhood and that this is just her parents dream being pushed on her. So happy that she is proving those haters wrong.

@Mycel Those regional chinese languages might be less widespread, but for many they are still their native languages. Speaking of THE chinese language implies just one language, while in fact there are many. It creates a false stereotype. Which can easily avoided by calling it by its proper name: Mandarin.
Spoiled little rich girl wants to go to Mars. Or her parents want her to go to Mars. Come back when you have actual scholarly experience to back up that dream. Enthusiasm is great, but it takes more than speaking four languages and a cute face to even get considered for this. I bet mommy and daddy will throw a fit if she isn't on that first trip, threatening to withdraw their funding of the mission. I hope she will get to Mars, but I also hope that when she goes, she goes on her own achievements, and not on the money mommy and daddy dished out.
I feel a little exposed in the back 😂😂😂
Just discovered Jordan has a youtube channel. So happy right now.

It's not explicitly stated, but since she has suborbital training she almost certainly works for a space agency.
