      @@geometricdashingjorge1945 I just got back from SpaceCamp a few weeks ago, and.... I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you talking about the staff or the kids? My experience was just the adult teams, so that may have been where things differed. But all of our crew trainers and staff were awesome.
      As for food, 1) you get three meals per day, so I don't know where "lack" comes in, and 2) it was the same as most every 5, 10, or 15 year old video I've seen that showed the cafeteria food.
      So yeah, I'm not sure where the disconnect is, unless its comparing teenage teams to adult teams. And to that I say... they're teenagers, what do you expect? Even in the SpaceCamp movie the teenagers had rotten attitudes, some horribly un-enthusiastic, and singularly focused on pop culture of the day. So yeah... that too hasn't changed at all.

    This is a great channel and it was a great episode. What it needs to become an amazing episode for me is even more explanation and science. You travel around and get to speak to some pretty cool people that have a lot of information and knowledge, so it would be awesome if you "exploit" that even more. I feel like you could have asked very simple questions like "why do I have to push these buttons? Why can't it be automated?" and "why do you need to train to be an astronaut?" or "how much fuel do you need to go to Mars?" and you would get some pretty interesting answers.
    Keep it coming guys, and keep asking questions.

    He put on his flight suit with his wings the correct way. In space camp, you have to wear them upside down until graduation. As someone who has graduated space camp twice, I can tell you that he would have not been allowed to wear it like that.
    The real reason they don't let you go for height on the 1/6 chair is because the springs only contract by a small amount, so it would put too much stress on the hinges when you came down. Also, I can confirm that he wasn't just bad at running in the chair. It is a real pain to move at all in that thing.
    I will say that his anomalies went WAY more smooth than it realistically would have in space camp. Mission control is run by fellow trainees, not adults, so things generally don't go that well. Also, most anomalies that I've experienced on my missions were during re-entry, so that makes the problems worse. And lastly, he was either extremely lucky or a jedi when landing the shuttle, because it has NEVER gone that well in any of my missions or the missions of others that I've heard about.

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 8 месяцев назад

      Really? ... uh... they didn't say anything to our group about it. Every one of us wore them right side up the entire time.
      As for landing the shuttle... I didn't have any trouble getting it down on the ground. My right-seat had the darnedest time finding all the switches though. He was almost late deploying the landing gear LOL. I was actually quite shocked at how easily I was able to control the Shuttle. "Just chase the diamond" almost felt like cheating. But then... having played things like Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Descent: Freespace, Elite: Dangerous, and of course Kerbal Space Program... I guess maneuvering just comes far more natural to me.
      On the other team though... oof. They crashed three times during training, and nearly took the tail off a 747 on a completely different runway during the actual mission.

    i know i am probably too sensitive about these matters.. but the whole time while watching the video I was hoping no one will get offended by his (admittedly brilliant) comedy lines.

    I'm at the space center and there is not really nothing to do but they have stuff for the "space camp" off to the public, so I can spend hundred dollars to see signs saying close to public but for the camp

      the space center is a museum. Generally what else is there to do at a museum besides look at the exhibits? And, remember the main exhibit is in the second building, next to the upright Saturn V

    Space Camp does not give you a flight suit. You have to buy one if you want it. They cost $105. They sell them at the gift shop. I didn’t buy one when I was there.

    By 1/6, he means 175/1000. Yes, I'm a Space Nerd going to Space Camp this summer. Enjoy me nerding out. Hey, do you know what magnetars are? They are (by definition) the largest "magnets" in the galaxy (the milky way)! They target your atoms, and so it'll look like your disappearing into thin air if you get too close to one! A magnetar occurs after a red giant (a star that is running out of "fuel") goes supernova! And that's just one of my many, MANY lectures! I'm only in 6th grade. Wonder what college will bring me?

      Because the RUclips audience isn't what It was 6-11 years ago. It's now for a more 'younger' audience while places like Facebook now have the more 'mature' (I use that term lightly) audience.

      1: no public wifi
      2: no food in rooms
      3: the matresses
      4: no running EVER
      other than these i would say its worth it

      @@jahrmit4587 The no running rule is a good thing xD Given the last thing we won't is kids tripping themselves up and face planting on the concrete.
      The mattresses? Well, assuming your age for a moment (apologies), just wait for dorm life in college...the mattresses there are no better.
      There is wifi, it's just the coverage that is lacking. The center was supposed to be one of the first to get Google Fiber and that still hasn't happened yet.

      Its about as expensive as nearly any specialized camp you could name. Be it band camp or sports camp, or the like.
      I would recommend the longer programs, though. The greater amount of activities and more immersive experience definitely makes up for any shortcomings, at least in my opinion.

    They flown space shuttles until recently right? So why did they use hundreds of buttons instead of 1 laptop? Seems like a good idea to keep them in case of software failure, but still.

      +Evaldas Zmitra What if the laptop runs out of power?

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 8 месяцев назад

      The Space Shuttles were designed in the 1970's and most built in the early 1980's. While most were upgraded to some degree, the technology was still based on hardware rather than software, so the switches were fairly essential for that.
      The newer Orion and Dragon are far more streamlined, but many switches are still required for certain aspects.

      You should be 18 now, and you can STILL still go. While there are fewer adult programs in the year, they are still available, and even cater more toward adults than children. For example, certain meet and greets and lectures that children would find boring, but adults would be fascinated by.
