I have a quick question, I tried collecting SSI because I had come down with fibromyalgia. I went before the judge I was asked several questions, one of which, was I depressed, I said no, at the time I didnt know that depression was a factor of fibromyalgia, afterward I began to experience several different ailments which are associated with this debilitating disease of which depression is one of them. I did not understand fully that I could obtain a lawyer to help in securing SSI. I retired at 62, and am wonduring if I can collect SSI as well SS? Just asking.

SS was created for basically older people who have limited life span. But ,all their efforts are to make us victims of system. No other group has to beg for what's deserved. As a widow, not only did lose my husband ,but my income. Had to sell my home . Medicare counts on older people's lack of understanding and not able to know what we deserve.
    We're below the poverty
line and too old to work and shouldn't have to.
The different criteria for calculations is a scam!
Bless you for advocating for us!

I tried to file for SSI. They said I had to file for Ex spouse benefits. Then received a letter saying I stated I didn’t want to file for SSI. Then I got paperwork stating divorce dates birth dates and their social security numbers. Then a paper of denial for spouse benefits. Not ex spouse. Reason that I said I was not legally married to him and was still living with him. Nothing correct at all. Getting through to talk to anyone is a joke. Please wake me up from this nightmare

The Social Security system that I have dealt with in the last six months is the most broken company I have ever dealt with! The rudest people I have ever spoken to work for this with establishment! My last call I waited for two hours and 43 minutes! That was just yesterday! And every single person you talk to gives you a different answer and tells you the last person that you talk to was wrong. Why isn’t anything done year after year after year ?

My SSDI included a very small inclusion of my deceased, SSDI holder spouse who died 4 months before my SSDI appeals court case in Indianapolis where my husband died. I make very little, all things considered, since I fought for and finally won my 6-year-long struggle to acquire my own SSDI in 2013. Indiana is a red state. I have met very young people (way under 30) awarded SSDI for the same physical condition I worked through and had to claw my way through with medical documentation. These girls I met had/have my condition like I'm the pope! My God, I cannot stand up straight for years now and cannot walk without walker/canes! These girls could run, let alone walk and NEVER worked. It urks me that I must still try to find an at-home job if I want to be able to eat more than once every 3 days! Not hyperbole!!

    • @tometriceshepherd6609
      @tometriceshepherd6609 10 дней назад

I agree with you I had ran into this young white girl in the mall she was bragging about her SSI check has gotten approved and it has hit her account, she was very loud and excited, I was trying to see how she could get approved at a much younger age, and it took me and several older and sick black people I know for a fact that was bed riddance and had no choice but to find work which they have no education background but had worked but the job was taking a toll on them, only making their life more difficult to deal with while trying to find some relief from their pain, but it took money to buy over the counter medication that you don't no that it will help. So people have to be vigilant and the people around you, because I wouldn't have learned this about this young lady if I had not heard her talking to someone on the phone, expressing how excited she was I guess she gotten so excited about why come she didn't have to wait long before she received her payment, I'm sorry this hit home here I'am have to use a cane to get around, and had to wait for years before I could get help, they had called my manager and asked him questions about me, to see if I was being honest, when I applied for SSI, if the judge didn't get a good report of my record I don't think that I would have gotten approved at least not at the time I needed it I was told to quit my job because of my health, he said that I was a flight risk and could cost the company money.

My husband divorced me in 2014 after 18 years of marriage, and I already filed for my own SS . We were business partners and he had our accountant not showing my work/true income in the company. So I am getting only about $700/month by now. I am 76 now and having a hard time with my finances. I know when we were divorced he was getting over $1600/mo. but I had no idea that I could have filed for his instead. Can I still do that? I feel totally ripped off!!

My SS Benefits were affected by WEP. I applied for my SS Benefits, reduced at age 62. I was told because of my state retirement benefits amount. I could not apply for spousal benefits from my ex-husband, which would have been more $$$ than mine. We were married 18 years. Now, because of the SS Fairness Act, can I apply for spousal benefits. Saw this video on 1/6/2025 after the SS Fairness Act was signed.

I was really surprised with the knowledge that you shared on the subject of SS benefits and how to claim them. There are so many ways to go about it that it can get overwhelming. My wife has been disabled for many years and during this time I have filed for different forms of social security but have been denied. The reason why they say is that my income is to high. Then I file for benefits as requested by SS office and was denied because she didn't have enough work credit points. Basically she didn't even exist and was not qualified for anything. Can you please explain to me what I can do if there is anything to get her some security with being 100 percent disabled at 63yrs and I am 69yrs and retired. Thank you for listening and hopefully you can give us some light on this matter

My wife retired in 2008. I worked in the federal government without paying into social security. I claimed spousal benefits when I was 62 and still working. When I retired in 2018, GPO kicked in and cut my spousal benefits to zero. Do I need to apply for spousal benefits to reinstate after the elimination of GPO?

They wouldn’t take it, they said if O wasn’t getting a check for anything they don’t care. Well I would like to have my record of what ai would get monthly for retirement. My ex-husband was on SSDI while we were married and before passing away. Neither of us remarried. Can I collect my disability benefits AND his disability benefits (full or partial) as a survivor? Or can I only collect the higher of the two benefit plans as I was advised when I called SSA to get an appointment to apply? I was told my benefits are higher and I cannot get both.

Dr Ed, my husband was a state trooper for 25 years and did not pay into social security. He also held other jobs before, during and long after becoming a state trooper, where he DID pay into social security. He purposely worked other jobs (working until age 70) to be sure he would have enough credits to receive social security based on those other jobs. He did this because he wanted to avoid WEP and GPO in retirement, which he felt was very unfair. Now, with this new bill being signed, all his fellow state troopers will now financially benefit from WEP/GPO being discarded. Thank goodness for them!!!! Do you think my husband will receive a bump in his benefit or do you think he won’t because he purposely worked extra to be sure WEP and GPO wouldn’t affect our family? Either way, we’re thrilled that others won’t have to battle such an unfair rule in the future.

Ed, When I applied for my S.S. Retirement (at age 65) I asked about the IEDS, knowing his is more than mine. At that time I was told by the S.S. phone rep., I cannot get this benefit because I make “too much” from my pension. You did not mention this in your presentation. Is there such a stipulation? If so, what is considered “too much”? Thank you in advance. And thank you for all your efforts to educate us😁

Ed. If i ONLY appy for survivor benefits on my husband's social security.
But i just found out i can apply for survivor benefits on my deceased husband on my social security and my social security retirement benefits can still grow at 8% a year. Is that true?
The social security office never told me this information:
when i signed up for survivor benefits ONLY on my deceased husbands social security benefits.
    AND
I think my survivor social security benefits is more than my deceased husbands social security benefits.

I was married for 23 years and pretty much supported my husband. We divorced. I did not remarry but he did. Within 2 years he died. New wife will not talk to me or my family. Wonder if I am entitled to anything. I am now 77. Not working.

Just a suggestion, adding one day to the various time limit's would be more understanding in regard's to the various time limit. Married to or Divorced from someone who live's in Europe or Japan while you live in Hawaii or Californian for instance. A day make a difference. Thus adding a day such as ten year's and a day. nine month's and a day. Meaning one can't apply of the date of the aka anniversary, it has to be the day after.

my wife currently has her own social security payment that is reduced because of her state pension. This will increase because of the fairness act. My question is: A spousal annuity that she could now get because otf the repeal would be a lot more than her own annuity. Does she have to apply for the spousal annuity or, since she has been getting benefit will she ge this automatically?
