Hey, I contacted Tim Walburg about our SSI Trust Fund and the shortfall happening in 2034. His response was he supported SSI but had no plan to outline to say what he is doing. It was a boilerplate standard bs answer.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your videos are like a miraculous LIFE LINE to me and those who do not understand this govt. system. I have learned a lot from you.
My father 79 pay a lot into Social Security and only get 2,5% this is sad to the elderly...But you can add 4 billion dollars in the fairness act to build a football stadium in California....Happy New Year
Social Security came.about making sure that the elderly had a living wage when they decided, or could no longer work...the funds from this should be hands off to all except to the retirees, and to those who administrator those benefits!!!
Everyone on here complaining should know! If you don’t get on the phone and let your representatives know what you expect. Then don’t expect them to do anything!!!🇺🇸
Tracey they are the problem..why would we choose to elevate our frustration by calling the ones who have been scamming us to fill their pockets full, and turning a blind eye to all the senior citizens who have fulfilled their duties as an American ?!!!
I think you have a lot of knowledge and great information to share. You are clearly passionate about people getting the benefits they worked for. I wish you would leave your personal opinions at the door and not be so indignant and worked up about what you personally disagree with. There is so much anger right now in general across the US and the world that it’s just too much. Please everyone contact your congress people to fund social security. Thank you.
My mom called her local SS office today and only had to wait on hold for ten minutes. Bonus points the person spoke English with out a heavy accent as mom is in her eighties and is hard of hearing 😊
TY4 trying to help us get the most out of our SS🙌!Even though some video's are not pleasant to watch it's not your fault! I did take yr advice to call both Representatives, SS & Medicare, but wnen I tried SS they were closed bc of Carter's funeral, but I'll call 1st thing tom! When i called Medicare, they told me that I had to call SS about the money they now take out for it, It was previously free until about 4 months ago. God bless you for all yr hard work for us & be safe & all who may read this!
Those who think it best to privatize SSA ...Are the ones who need to pay their fair share of taxes...because if you did the right thing by paying your fair share, instead of acting out on your greed...we would not have to even entertain the thougt of SSA insolvency!!!
If our government would keep their fingers out of our social security. We would have plenty! Social security, belongs to the American people, not to wall street or illlegals.
Isn’t it sad we have to actually contact the representatives whose salaries we pay, to do what is right for the people which is what we elect them to do! What we need is a new government that will do what is right for the people without having being told to do that.
Did he pay into Social Security while working as a police officer? If he didn't pay at his job, then I think you would be affected. I called Social Security (call early Friday morning) last week and asked if my benefits were lowered because of the WEP (I'm a retired CT public school Teacher who didn't pay into S.S. at my school). After 20 minutes, I was told "Yes, your benefits are reduced." You have to call and ask if your survivor benefits have been lowered because of the GPO. Good luck! Your husband was a Saint dedicating his life to protect the people.
Not if he didn't pay into social security, did he have another job or jobs besides that for 10 years or 40 qtrs of paying into social security, that's the issue.
My husband worked as police over 25 years. He deserves the social security money! He was laid off and had to work multiple jobs. He also worked after retirement because his pension was not that much. He deserves it!
Dr. Weir l'm a new subscriber l'm turning 62 in May and planning on taking my Social security l was told to get in touch with them in Feb? My husband is 56 and planning on working until 65 can l change over to his earnings after he retires?
Question: why do they tax your Medicare premiums? When working I am able to have health premiums deducted pretax. So why is my Medicare premiums added back into my taxable total. Just wrong!
You can only deduct health insurance if you are self employed or itemize. Not being able to deduct it when retired seems fair to me. Just as being able to deduct part of your house as a home office when working but not when retired is fair. The budget deficit is way too high already, the last thing we need is more tax cuts. I don't like paying taxes but its the price we must pay to live in a civilized society.
I paid in my regular job. I taught in a WEP state for 13 years which was going to hurt me. I retired there at 60. At 61 I went back to teaching in a non-WEP state so I could pay more years into SS. He makes me angry every time every time he says this isn’t fair.
@@vegan3650 yes, because he always presents it as those 3% who worked summer jobs as teachers and now want full SS on that part time employment. It might be partially true, but he ignores many of us who paid FICA on full time jobs and because we live on a state line were able to go to WEP covered state and work. I didn’t know I was not paying in until I started working there. Then I found out I would be penalized by those 13 years I worked in WEP state. Anyone who is penalized by WEP doesn’t get SS unless they pay in 20 years and then it is dramatically cut, unless one has paid in 30 years. Many teachers worked other jobs before they became teachers and paid FICA on those jobs.
I applied for my SS to start by going to the website. They state upfront that it takes months (3 if I remember correctly.) Got my first check in December.
@laurieann5312 I don't remember the month I actually applied. All I know I started the month I requested. However, the first check cokes the month AFTER you start. I asked for November, which I am told it did. The check wasn't deposited into my account until December.
My wife and I are retired school teachers in Texas. I have 40 quarters paid into social security and I am subject to 21:24 wep. With repeal of the government offset does my wife need to file for spousal benefit now?
If they are gonna take the Fica and give it to Wall street we should have the right to opt out and invest it ourselves. The govt is dictating how we will retire. Wall street gets paid high commission whether they win or lose our monies.
Hi, I'm a year out until I can file for Social Security, and I enjoy the channel very much. Thank you! Is waiting until age 70 to file for Social Security still a good idea with the potential cuts? What is the "new break-even" with these cuts in mind? Most of what I've been hearing leads me to believe filing as soon as possible and at your FRA, is the best choice. True?
20 years ago we all used to get sent these green and white 2 page letters showing what our social security amount would be and our our disability amount in that pamlet that came it stated a date when social security would end, if you saved them you can look, they stopped mailing them about 10 years ago the Republicans don't have anything to do with that.
My ss wont start until until 2027. I will qualify for. W EB and I deserve it for the work i did prior to working for the school district. When you let us know what to say to my representative i will do so
I am 79 years, my spouse passed in 2004 and I get SS AND MILITARY SPOUSE SUPPORT (annuity) is there any more I can get from regular SS SPOUSE SUPPORT AND WILL I get a cut in my benefits?
I retired and took my husband's benefits until I was 70, then I applied for my own benefits at 70. Am I entitled to any of my deceased husbands Social Security benefits? He passed away in 1998.
I am 68 on social security and it's my only income, on paper my benefits are 26,960.40 a year but my check is about 2200 a month, will the new laws affect me
I wondered why I have received increases In October the last several years. I thought it was related my continued increase in income but wasn’t sure. Thanks.
Dr. Ed, what is the exception that one (me) would receive higher rates surviving spouse benefits and I started out with SSDI/turned my SS. I get survivor benefits but feel I qualify for more.
Will there be a lawsuit for the money that was taken from SSA to other departments of the government? I challenged Biden and got an attorney letter in return
You have to have an appointment at the Social Security it's to keep the workers and people safe and they have guards, when you walk into the Social Security building at the door where we are at. The Social Security Fairness Act is not going to change, so you can call all you want, it's your dime
First appt on nov4th, got cut off,new appt for December,24th,they didn’t call, new appt for feb18th, I am 66 born 1/1/1959,handicapped since 1998,husband passed will I qualify for full benefits? He waited to full age?
When will we stop putting other countries needs in front of our own...If the legislative branches(INCLUDING THE PRESIDENCY)are so worried about foreign policy..i believe they should move to those countries, and run for a gooverment office in that country, and stop lying to Americans just to when an office!!!
Ed I’m 68 and have not taken my ss yet. We sold a house in 2024. If I take it now will selling the house affect what I will pay for my Medicare or my ss? I have waited on the phone twice for over 3 hrs each and hung up on
This is the first I've heard of needing to pay taxes on my Social Security income! I have never paid taxes on my Social Security, and I don't even file for taxes, because I don't make anything other than Social Security. I thought Social Security was tax exempt as an income.
Dr Ed Weir, I'm a 64-year-old retired military. I turn 65 in July. My post personal office tells me I will have to change from Tricare Prime to Medicare. Do I have a choice to keep Tricare, or will I lose money if I don't take Medicare and sign up for Medicare A and B? Also, I had to retire at age 62 due to an injury to my hip. Can I get SSDI along with SS?
You should be able to keep Tricare but it will be a secondary insurance rather than primary. Ultimately, the payments to medical come from the same pot anyway.
I received Social Security disability in 2002 it turned over to regular Social Security when I turned 65 I am currently 78 and I am trying to increase my benefits what should I do
SS customer service has been virtually non existent for years. You wait weeks for appointments if you can even get one, and newborn babies wait months for a social security number! How much worse can that really get?
Hi Ed, i'm just trying to get this straight. So once I turn sixty-five I can make what I want or do I have to actually wait for my FRA to hit which is sixty-six and some months?
Yes. According the the SSA: "Section 1024 of the Tax Payer Relief Act of 1997 (Public Law 105-30) authorizes the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to levy up to 15% of each Social Security payment for overdue Federal tax debts until the tax debt is paid." The other 85% of your SS benefit will be yours. Your SS benefit stopped increasing once you hit 70. You would have been better off filing then.
Will you give some hints on getting through to them? I’m finding it impossible and you say it’s only going to get worse. Are there small company type experts to hire that know the tricks ? Or just go to my Congressman?
Have you tried first thing in the morning, like Wed. or Thurs.? I would try at different times. Also, I have done everything online. I know this won't work for all things.
Hi Ed what do I do if I don’t get money to pay my takes I’m disabled was a SSI recipient but in 2016 I my ssi was terminated and I was giving widows benefits still not enough to live on is there a tax forgiveness something that can help us disabled senior
im 64 and going to start collecting my SS I created my SS account. I noticed I have 00 for 1980, 1981 and 1982. Wont this change my amount I receive? or is it too late?
was married to my X 14 years. I remarried. Current spouse turned 65 in April 24 and began drawing SS. I am still working at 74 but began SS when I was 62. X of 14 years passed last week. Can I draw surviving spouse benefits on him and if so how does that potentially impact what I draw now? thx
I have a question. My sister passed away a year ago. Her birthday was on the 30th so she got her disability the last Wednesday. She sadly died on May 2nd so they took her last check back. How can that be right if your pay was for the previous month?
Hi Doc ED, I have been on Survivor benefits since January 2018. I was on SSI from 11/2012 until then. I am disabled and am unable to work. I am 62 and the last time I applied for SSDI I was told that I didn't have enough credits. I applied for retirement and didn't get it nor did I get an answer of why. I had a lot of short term cash jobs in my distant past. I do get Veterans Disability at a rating of 60% = 1,395.00 a month. What do I qualify for social security wise? Thanks Doc.
Question I recieve social security but working part time will I be getting the social security increase and back pay from the social security fairness act.
Receiving social security working part time as a personal care assistant for an agency do I get the increase and backpay with the social security fairness act
I filed for SSA on my own earnings. But I keep hearing about divorced spouse benefits. I was married for 13 years & have been divorced for more than 2 years. I have never remarried. Can I apply for ex-spouse benefits? And are those benefits added to mine, or do they replace mine?
I have been divorced for over ten years and never married again to someone else. My ex- has been drawing social security for during our divorce. My question is do I have to be 62 to be entitled in Independently entitled divorced spouse .
Can you do a show specifically addressing spousal benefits? We both received SSD, and are both retirement age. My husband is making more than twice what I make. Do I qualify for a higher benefit amount? We are married.
Hello Ed I have a question iam 53 disabled women I been collecting disability 24 years for my brain TRAMMA bleeding in my brain n I want to take out my retirement n ssdi sorry for the spelling of nit really no what to do brain thing thank you your a shinning prince
A young woman 54yr old I know is diagnosed with chronic heart failure. She is drowning is medical bills.Do you think she would qualify for disability SS and wouldn't it be a good idea? It would be money coming in She is married is makes a difference
Sign up for Medicare Part A when you turn 65. Then sign up for Part B 3 months before you leave work. On your Part B application, set the date you want it to start to be the date you leave work.
Ed, how is some one who put many more quarters than necessary, 25yrs. to be exact…then worked a career on local governments until retirement being not treated unfairly when he has been WEPPED for the last 12 years. Under this new law, I will only be reimbursed for one of those 12 penalty years…what fair about that? You don’t seem to talk about that but there are millions like me in the same boat…why is the government fair and return all my WEPPED penalties plus interest?
@ BS….MILLIONS OF OTHERS ARE JUST LIKE ME BEING WEPPED UNFAIRLY….FOR MANY YEARS…AND IN MY CASE, 12 YEARS AS I SAID….YOU APPARENTLY HAVE NOT BEEN WEPPED OR YOU WOULDN’T SAY SUCH NON-SINCE!
If the calculation is off, then fix the calculation. Some checks were reduced by half or completely eliminated under WEP. GPO wiped out spousal and survivor’s benefits for many low income women. Neither WEP nor GPO were part of the Social Security Act. They were never fair.
I have 5 years and 200 days before I turn 62. My husband collects now. How does that work? Do I collect mine Do we have to get a divorce in ordered for me to claim my full benefits?
I terminated my SRA Plan part B benefit as of 6/1/2024. If I want to reinstate my part B benefit is there a penalty for it? Pls advise. Thank you Dr ED

Raise Fica tax ceiling
This is the first I've heard of needing to pay taxes on my Social Security income! I have never paid taxes on my Social Security, and I don't even file for taxes, because I don't make anything other than Social Security. I thought Social Security was tax exempt as an income.

If you no longer working, you don't pay FICA.
Your income may be too low to have to file federal taxes. State taxes are a different matter.

??I I am currently working with a tax repair company to pay off taxes from 6 years can I still file for Medicare and SS?? I am 71 ?
Never got Decembers payment SSI- due to fraud- told them they said check will be sent to my address by paper still haven’t gotten it?
Second time they said it will take 10 days now total 20 days waiting?

Official PÍA applies to divorced wife like me? He already is getting it at 63 and I’m planning to get it at 64
How do you make appointment? Call or can you do it online?
was married to my X 14 years.
Call and ask does not sound right
Hi Doc ED, I have been on Survivor benefits since January 2018.
Yes if you worked both govt and in private sector where FICA was collected
Receiving social security working part time as a personal care assistant for an agency do I get the increase and backpay with the social security fairness act
I filed for SSA on my own earnings. But I keep hearing about divorced spouse benefits. I was married for 13 years & have been divorced for more than 2 years. I have never remarried.
Can I apply for ex-spouse benefits? And are those benefits added to mine, or do they replace mine?
Yes, call the social security office, and tell them you want to apply for ex spouse benefits...
I have been divorced for over ten years and never married again to someone else. My ex- has been drawing social security for during our divorce. My question is do I have to be 62 to be entitled in Independently entitled divorced spouse .
Yes.
No use contacting Congress.
Can you do a show specifically addressing spousal benefits? We both received SSD, and are both retirement age. My husband is making more than twice what I make. Do I qualify for a higher benefit amount? We are married.
Have you watched the ones he has already done? If not, type in spousal benefits in his search function, there are several videos.
@ thanks

A young woman 54yr old I know is diagnosed with chronic heart failure. She is drowning is medical bills.Do you think she would qualify for disability SS and wouldn't it be a good idea? It would be money coming in She is married is makes a difference
Have her talk to her primary care Doctor as they will submit the paperwork. I would guess that she should be able to collect.
A friend of mines husband passed and he was on the wep/gpo deal. Can she collect on him under the gpo
I’m gonna be 65 years old this coming April stiil working full time with health insurance. Do I need to file for medicare ? Is it compulsory?
Sign up for Medicare Part A when you turn 65. Then sign up for Part B 3 months before you leave work. On your Part B application, set the date you want it to start to be the date you leave work.
What is GPO
Government pension offset ...
Hello ED ,i am collecting my ss icome ,my wife will 62 this coming May .when she should apply for binefit. thanks
You express the same frustration I feel when I listen to this.
Learn the calculation. I did when I retired and then it will be clear that the change gives a disproportional amount to this group.
Do I need to reapply for Widows benefit every year?
No❤
No
That cost report is a 10 years time period but cuts coming in 5 years? So only half that forecasted applies ...
The WEP repeal is going to impact SS by only Six months.
We don't yet know what other things might be passed.
How do you make appointment to sign up for social security? Call or can you do it online (for appointment)?
Call your local SSA office in your area to set up an appt.
Better to do it on line using a my social security account
I have 5 years and 200 days before I turn 62. My husband collects now. How does that work? Do I collect mine Do we have to get a divorce in ordered for me to claim my full benefits?
I'm on disability can I move to another country without hurting my payments???
Only if on SSDI if you are on SSI that would be halted upon leaving😎😎
I terminated my SRA Plan part B benefit as of 6/1/2024. If I want to reinstate my part B benefit is there a penalty for it? Pls advise. Thank you Dr ED
Yes there is a very good chance good buddy
Are you saying that even if our husband’s haven’t died we should file now for survival benefits??
