@@TotallydubbedHD bro i got the monitor it has no ghosting what so ever . Please give the product another chance . Because i truly believe you got a faulty product.
I have this monitor and it actually does work for competitive play. The image quality is very good especially after turning up digital vibrance in nvidia control panel. I play on super fast response time and honestly its a very good ips panel but thats jus my opinion everyones welcome to their own tho
@@TotallydubbedHD i tried this one and an acer tn x250q 240 hz and it was very bad image quality almost no color so i went with this alienware one. @@alexubarnett thanks for sharing your experiences. As for 1440p - it's magical, and imo the sweet spot for gaming. Much better resolution; and makes things far sharper. But I understand if you want the maximum amount of fps, 1080p is good for such individuals.
@@TotallydubbedHD hmm really? Im tempted to try 1440 for multiplayer games that i usually get high fps but im afraid of the fps mainly in single player games that are super graphically demanding. I wish u could change from 1440p to 1080p on fly with 1 monitor lol
Thanks for the review from a competitive gaming pov. All the other reviewers act like this monitor is perfect for competitive gaming, but I'm guessing those guys like are gold/plat level and don't know the difference between response times etc. Cancelled my order the night of watching your review. Ordered the Asus you recommended. Gonna be comparing it to the Benq XL2546k before my return window is up. Kinda wanna see if an IPS will look any better. I love the Benq coming from the Asus vg248qe, but might as well try out an IPS vs TN 240hz.
Pleasure buddy, glad you liked the video, and found it useful. Indeed, I'm not sure why people are raving about it nor those who bought it as a result then come to this video to dislike/comment that I have no idea what I'm talking about haha. I think you'll love the Asus though :)
Thank you for posting this review. I had this monitor a couple months back and for me there was something that seemed a bit.. off coming from a high refresh rate TN panel. The claimed 1ms is non existent due to pixel overshoot and the Superfast mode which is few ms behind the claimed 1ms is noticeable if you're a competitive player. In your experience have you had the same experience? I'm now trying to go for the TN variant of this monitor instead which is cheaper and also has a decent TN panel.
Postin another comment because this guy is the GOAT. Get the Asus he recommended. Set up G-sync with vsync (there's literally no input lag if done correctly) and a frame limit and ELMB on. This is the literal most perfect gaming experience I've had on Apex. I'm an ex masters player too, so you can trust that I'm sweaty and can tell if there's input lag. It is so damn smooth and buttery. The colors are better than a Benq 2546k by far and has no input lag downfall. This is gaming heaven.
Haha thanks buddy! The only thing, however, is that you will not want Vsync on at all; G-Sync is fine however (which is effectively Vsync but without the massive added input lag)!
@@TotallydubbedHD Vsync never activates if you have frame limiter and gsync enabled. It just acts as a secondary frame timer for extra smoothness. I'm talking about 240hz only. It's only like a 1-2ms difference. And that's the type of variance you see in just overdrive settings alone. No one on earth can tell the difference between 1ms-2ms. ruclips.net/video/ztIehwt6qd8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/mOyRYX1Vyfg/видео.html Second video is a Radiant player and explains it well. I'm an Immortal and Masters player in apex. If my sweaty try hard ass is benefiting from it, I really don't think it's bs. I was 1 clipping people so much easier with this combo. But either way, cheers!
@@str8harry as much as I agree regarding the fps cap and Vsync/Gsync, I still don't use it. Those who want the utmost performance from their monitors will not want those technologies enabled, as even G-Sync will add some input lag (if it's minimal, it's still there), let alone the capped frames. Of course, it's a trade-off between smooth gameplay with a little added input lag, vs tearing gameplay with no added input lag. I choose the latter, and so do many pros. Just to make sure I wasn't spitting rubbish, I wanted to double-check my thoughts with a few of my friends (TFT Central and PC Monitors), two of the most well-respected monitor reviewers in the world; and they confirmed my thoughts. You can also check Blur Busters' forums where they'll say the same thing; lowest input lag = no Vsync or VRR technology. Should you want that or not is up to you :)
I went from zero to hero with my AW2521HFA ...g sync on and extreme mode gives me god mode...I am a CS GO competitive gamer with high demands and I found this monitor one of the kind....no ghosting no tearing no nothing...I dont know for the other monitor you prefer but this one is what I will never regret...
@@SHEEEEEEEEEEESH. yeah. RTings updated it. Freesync on w/ extreme is 2.9ms. Freesync off is 1.8ms. I use extreme with freesync off & then I adjust my brightness & stuff.
Hey thanks for giving your honest and critical review of this monitor. Really put some perspective on what to purchase. But I wanted to ask if you could create an up to date monitor tiering system on your website. Just a page where we can refer to when comparing all the monitors you reviewed. It’s hard to maneuver back and forth between RUclips reviews so some kind of reference page based on categories like 240hz or 1440p 144hz can be helpful.
Glad you liked the review! As for my website; it's been inactive for a long time (Totallydubbed.net), as I don't have time for such things nowadays - I review cars on TotallyEV.net, and do reviews in video formats on RUclips on both fronts.
I bought Alienware AW2521HF I got defective unit tho it had burn in aka image retention so dell just send me a brand new unit of it has less ips glow and no image retention until now anyways it’s really solid monitor you need adjusted the gain to the max and saturation first option is set to max and third to max personally it looks good to me but you could play with it and adjusted what ever you want to make look like true ips monitor weird enough dell don’t know how to adjust the colors anyways over all it’s a solid monitor no ghosting it fast mode and loved the design and of course the RGB
Smashing video, if only I watched this video before I bought my monitor it was have altered my decision.I have seen some comments about bad ghosting problems. Is this common for the monitor to have bad ghosting problems even on the fast default overdrive mode? My monitor has been playing up badly recently. The screen sometimes shows a image of something else I was watching on the monitor. Such as if I was watching RUclips, it would show the RUclips logo on the Home Screen on my monitor. It would go away after about 10 minutes. Do u have any idea on how easy it is on getting a replacement from Alienware as I’m starting to wonder I might have received a defective monitor. I look forward to you reply. Cheers
Think you've figured it out bud, something doesn't sound right. You shouldn't be getting any ghosting on the default OD either. I'd look to get a replacement or just send it back to where you bought it from!
@@TotallydubbedHD ok I will probably have to contact Alienware as I have had the monitor for about 1 month and Amazon only take in replacements after the initial 30 days of delivery. Wish me luck on getting my replacement from Alienware as I’m hoping they are not going to be difficult in replacing the monitor.
Looks like I'm the only real reviewer on RUclips then! In fact, there's no one on RUclips that has reviewed over 180 monitors, but trust whoever you want :)
i bought this monitor will arrive next week for 260!! was debating with the vg249qm it was 310 on amazon so i went for the cheapest option witch was the alienware aw2521hf
Maybe you got a faulty panel or monitor, I don't know what they call it. But I see a lot of people and reviewers are recommending this monitor. Great job on the review and I think it's Alineware Fault.
Am considering this panel as it's pretty much the best thing I can get for 430$ its either that or Acer XV272UP 1440p 144hz. But that panel has 0 reviews and it's definitely lower end 1440p 144hz panel compared to something like LG 27GN850-B. On the other hand, this seems to be one of the highest quality 1080p panels. Even tho I really want 1440p over 240hz for my eyes. (Bad vision, would benefit from a sharper image.) I might just play it safe and get this.
Nice review, I have had this monitor for 2 months and I can agree it differently does fall short. For some reason I have noticed the ghosting on the monitor has got worse. I have even gone down to the fast mode and it’s still has a lot of ghosting. what do u think could be wrong, could I have received a faulty panel? Another thing that has occurred with this monitor is that once it had LCD burn in from a game that I was playing. Is this normal to happen but it did go away after about 5 mins.
M8 I have been getting the same problems. We might have received a batch of faulty monitors, I can’t really see this being a common fault in this monitor.
I had this Alienware in my cart and was about to hit “Place Order” but decided i needed to see at least 4 more video reviews and all of them agreed that it was a “godlike monitor” until i found your video, you just changed my mind and now i ordered the Asus you recommended because im a competitive gamer and i think every spec matters.
you fucked up hard lol this guy is tunnel visioned he didn't provide any source bout that ghosting yes it is a little blurrier then on benq but hahaha its just funny how many of you he brainwashed oh wait you bought that asus shit bro its also an ips panel if you bought it only cuz of better ghosting and input lag he legit just scammed you and made you pay more money
Excellent video mate. Just having a concern as I read few comments. If I'm playing RUclips or Netflix would it be on full screen ? I read few comments saying that I'll get a black border if I'm playing a video on a browser. I am planning to buy for work purpose and not for gaming. Please advice mate. Thanks :)
Of course, you'll be able to run it fullscreen; not sure why you'd think otherwise? And as for advice, suggest watching the video/reading the description!
Would an RTX 3070 be overkill to use with this monitor? 240Hz sounds great and the jump to QHD with 240Hz still very high.I can get this from dell for £274 with 5 year advanced warranty.
I had the 27 inches version a while back. For me the image quality was more disappointing, than the gaming features. No matter what setting I used the image didn't have any depth. The full HD resolution also looks quite bad on 27-28 inches (even on 24). I agree with you and the similar Asus monitors are a better choice.
Thanks buddy, glad you liked it! Now if you could tell all the AW fanboys in the comments section and those who disliked it, it would be appreciated, haha!

@@TotallydubbedHD You might be pretty confident in your knowledge man, but from the gameplay showed on screen, i dont think you have the right to call yourself a good cs player haha. - Also, i dont know what you are smoking if you legitimately think a 27 inch is better for cs, i mean i know its personal preference, but if you are at least global, then you should know that the higher res makes it harder to hit headshots, unless you have the eye of an eagle, since the heads on long range are so small at that point. Huh.. I thought the monitor is pretty good seems like I was wrong... I have a question Rn I only have 2 options that support 240hz this and the Acer Predator XB253QGXbmiiprzx which one would you get? hmm this is weird. According to rtings the AW2521HF has the better response time as well as less overshoot than the VG279QM. You need to turn on Freesync with the Alienware for some reason though to get the best performance.
RTINGS isn't a place to be trusted. When they originally reviewed this monitor it was deemed the best, then magically 2 years after they published their review, they updated it with newer (worse) numbers. Believe who you want though :) And ps. No one should be turning on Freesync or G-Sync when playing hardcore competitive games - you don't want to be locking your frames (and ironically not your overdrive settings either)
@@TotallydubbedHD thank you, I know you said to turn off freesync so would that be the same for amd freesync premium? I play on console so idk if it matters
Would you still recommend a 1440p 165hz monitor for competitive gaming I have the Viewsonic XG27OQG but was considering 240hz but I like the nano IPS and full Gsync aswell?
To be honest, most 165Hz I've come across haven't got the lowest input lag - not tried that VS though. And if you want a high refresh rate IPS, check the Asus in the description.

Hi, you say it’s input lag isn’t so good compared to the competition, can I please have some numbers and comparison to the other models you’re referring to?
Ok I have had this model for a month or so now and I have heard that by putting the extreme mode causes ghosting and messes up the monitor over time. For that reason I haven’t moved it of the fast setting (the first one) and I’m still scared to as I saved a lot to buy this thing and I want it to last, so please could you confirm or recommend anything to cure my anxiety over the extreme mode as I really want it on but too scared to apply it. Thanks.
Swings and roundabouts, hard to explain it all in comments, but best looking it up online via trusted sources, such as PC Monitors and TFT Central; they have lots of info on this :)
@@TotallydubbedHD gotcha! Idk why but my Sceptre E255B-1658A 165hz (TN) monitor feels FASTER than this 240hz. It also costs more. Literally a waste of 240hz
Unfortunately I guess I'm out of options since I also play on a console (60hz/fps), and rtings shows that the input lag is horrendous on the Asus at that refresh rate (35ms). So I'll probably end up with the Alienware (9.7ms)... Any suggestions?
Can't comment on other people's testing, unfortunately. Why are you getting a 240hz for console though? Or is the console a secondary device? If so, look into the description for alternatives, like the AOC
Hi, I like the review of the ''Alienware AW2521HF'' However could you please do a review of the '''The Alienware 25 AW2521H'''. It is for my son who is an X box series X shoot em up gamer. I know the The Alienware 25 AW2521H is a bit overkill for an x box X, but I want the bet 24-25inch monitor for £400-£550 for him, thank you
You'll struggle to consistently output 240hz with that GPU imo. In the video, from memory, it was the RTX 2080 Super - but your CPU is just as important in certain games too
@@TotallydubbedHD your link goes to the 27 not 25, did you mean to use 25? And in your 2022 round up of all monitor types you didn't list the Asus at 25. Are you back to using the 24.5 AOC competitively now or still think the Asus superior?
@@ianobodie2338 no I reviewed the 27, did you watch the review? But the 25" model should perform the same. I get these monitors in for review, I don't own 200 monitors lol
What about for console? I play on an Xbox Series X for competitive Apex Legends, and I just want to know if the Asus would be noticeably better on console as well, or if PC squeezing out every drop of performance is where the noticeable difference comes in? Lol 😂 I really want the Alienware to be the better option, as I love it’s design so much! haha
@@TotallydubbedHD I would completely agree, but it’s only $250, so it’s not like I’m paying for the extra frames I’m not using anyway. Plus if I ever decide to switch to PC it will be waiting there for me too. But what do you think?
@@TotallydubbedHD Will do! I know your a PC guy, but the lack of monitors reviewed for next gen consoles is ridiculous! I’m not sure if it’s something you’d be interested in, but if you’d like to make a video or two covering 1440p monitors and 1080p monitors for Xbox and PS5, I think people would go crazy over it, cuz there is pretty much NOTHING about what you should get. Like for example, I have no idea wether I should be getting a 1440p monitor, or 1080p monitor for competitive shooters? Cuz my main concern is how well 1440p at 120fps runs on console, and not only that, but how well 1080p games run on certain 1440p monitors. Your knowledgeable and have competitive shooter experience, so I think you’d be perfect to review monitors for next gen consoles! But I understand if that’s not your thing. I was considering the 1440p Gigabyte Aorus FI27Q for my Xbox Series X for competitive shooters, but the response time & input lag aren’t as great as the 1080p monitors mentioned in this video. So I’m stuck trying to find the right one lol
So I’m deciding between this and the VG279QM, I’m highly competitive player and I watched your review on the VG279QM and it seems apparent that it would be a better option. Thank you for the reviews. Do you agree with this choice and is there anywhere I can find the best settings I should be using for the one I get as it seems rather in depth.

Are you in Canada? I was making the same decision and ended up choosing the Y25-25 since it was $50 cheaper after a coupon and the stand isn't as bulky. They both use the same panel (AU Optronics M250HAN01.6/7) but the Alienware gives you RGB if that matters to you.
I wish i was from Canada but no Europe sadly , rgb eh i mean its fine but my main concern is i've seen this review and like 2 others for y25-25 all of them say it has extreme inverse ghosting on max OD on the other hand the alienware seems to be split some ppl reviewed it without any or very little inverse ghosting on max OD , my point is i never had a 240hz before and i don't really want to buy the most premium but not something that's gonna make my eyes bleed either
Not a pro on monitors but I got this exact model and the ghosting you are saying from the "Extreme" mode response time disappears when you enable FreeSync, so I dont see the issue?
Hello, i love ur reviews :) I'm a valorant player and im looking for a competitive 144hz monitor, the best you could recommand for CS:Go/Valorant competitive player ? I Can go to 250€. Thx for the answer
I'd like to buy a 240hz moniutor for similar price. All I care about is 1080p, low latency for competitive gaming. Any recommendations IF this certain alienware is not the way to go?
@@TotallydubbedHD The one you've recommended has HUGE input delay on 60hz, which makes it unusable for single player games. 280hz tends to drop to 144hz or turn off the whole monitor. Seen multiple people complaining about it.
@@TotallydubbedHD For majority new single player games I can barely hold 80 fps. So using gsync could make sense. If I play Valorant, where I can get over 240 comfortably, then the Asus one you had suggested is amazing. Edit: I also don't want 27 inch screen, I prefere 24. 27' for 1080p looks bad
@@RicardoMilosGachi oh lol RTINGS strikes again. The same people who claimed this was one of the best monitors, then updated their review TWO years later with actual figures. The figure you're looking at is in relation to SETTING the monitor at 60hz, which you'll never do on PC. Only applicable to console games (where there's no point in buying a 240hz in the first place). So the performance you're talking about, isn't applicable even if you're running 60fps, while set to 240hz. Note, their figures aren't to be trusted either, I've not seen such a shift in input lag from my own objective testing that I now do.
@@gotivanmomak I suggest going forwards, on any RUclips video: watching the video before asking in the comments. It's disrespectful towards the creator.

And could be 30% cheaper then ASUS. so i dont understand how you can recommend some other shit with significaly worse pixel response time? maybe only because price.
From my own experience, Rtings always gets numbers wrong - or better still, will give you the best response time numbers, but then within in the same review say not to use it in the highest overdrive setting - believe who you want though :)
@@theprotagonist8988 thus not getting the fastest response time, making the above claims invalid. Just a little loop. As mentioned, feel free to trust whoever you want - that'll be the last on the subject :)
@@TotallydubbedHD when the measured the rise/fall time, extreme had the best. But when they measured the TOTAL RESPONSE TIME was best on fast. So technically it is the fastest.
There are no monitors that hit 1ms constantly. Some monitors, including this one, that can hit around 1ms at some point. It’s a good monitor, actually one of the fastests 240hz ips on the market right now. He says that Asus is better, however it has pretty much the same response time (a lil bit better on 240hz and a lil bit worse on 144hz). Anyways, you wouldnt notice it. The colors of both monitors are pretty much the same, so is the price. The only thing that Asus can be better at is ghosting, it has anti motion blur mode (that totally ruins your eyes if you use it, so pro players dont even bother using it). Benq, for example, has Dyac that is marketed as something incredibly insane that makes your gameplay much better. The funny thing is noone of the top tier cs go pro players use it. All of the ghosting thing around the web (blur busters, for example) makes no sense whatesoever. You won’t notice it while playing games, because you are concentrated and you dont care about a little blurry screen. So yeah, there is no monitor that has exactly what is shown in his description, but there are the ones that are really close to it. Such as this monitor, so I’d say that there’s no point in saying that it is bad or something like that. Just remember that the most important thing is your skill, I used to play cs on the 60hz 2007 monitor with around 70-80 fps and still got to a max rank and played really well.
@@TotallydubbedHD Monitor depends on the person a lot. I got up to 9 rank in faceit with the regular 60hz monitor while having fps drops below my refresh rate. I'm not very sensitive to the overshoot which some people find impossible to look at. But the thing is, after my research, currently there are 3 best 240hz ips full hd monitors: AW2521hf, Mag251rx, VG259qm/279qm. There are some differences between them but they are not that major to claim specific monitor is way better than the others. Asus might have slightly faster response time but its only on 280hz, below 200hz it loses to these two, it has the worst colors out of the three. Alienware has the best response times on 60-144hz, on 240hz they are similar, has good working adaptive sync (for some people its important), nice colors, but has no strobing (which most competitive players dont even use). Mag251rx is sort of balance between AW and VG, it has nice response time, low input lag, decent colors. My point is that there is no big gap between them, all three perform really good, whilst each has some pros and cons. P.S. if you have a different opinion about these 3 monitors, please write it, I'd gladly read it because I'm planning on buying one of three.
Hi there, I was wondering if you would recommend this monitor over a 1080p 144hz monitor? I am getting this for £219 rn and that is about £20 more expensive than the 144hz monitor that I am looking at. Also I am not exactly a competitive gamer but would consider myself as quite a bit more than a causal gamer. I would also like to say that I am not going to go over £220 so it is this or a 1080p 144hz monitor. What do you think I should get?
Would really depend which monitor you're considering. My suggest is the AOC 24G2U, which should be around £190. Refresh rate is important to some, but input lag and response are far more important in all use cases, and that's where the AW falls short.

For csgo i can see having fastest response time possible being important maybe im just not hardcore enough to notice the difference my main games are stuff like battlefield so not as hardcore as csgo.

You should check the alternatives in the description, those would be my pick! Glad you liked the review
@@TotallydubbedHD There aren't 240hz alternatives there but thank you!
@@levilima9925 check again "I'd recommend the Asus VG279QM, instead" lol

Second video is a Radiant player and explains it well.

I wonder if the AW2518HF tn panel is better
Not a pro on monitors but I got this exact model and the ghosting you are saying from the "Extreme" mode response time disappears when you enable FreeSync, so I dont see the issue?
That would insinuate that overdrive isn't active while Freesync is enabled.

@@TotallydubbedHD The one you've recommended has HUGE input delay on 60hz, which makes it unusable for single player games.

Note, their figures aren't to be trusted either, I've not seen such a shift in input lag from my own objective testing that I now do.

totallydubbedHD I watched the video I m asking another question ? This alien or this ASUS ROG STRIX XG248Q 24 ?
where are some numbers ? do you then say that rtings are hoax, they measured respons time , and iz very good, not like VG279QM but on the top for 240 hz and for 60hz.
@@TotallydubbedHD okey true, but they set to FAST , that not fastest mode.. i only' believe' aperturegrille : ) I should measure by my self.

@@Zynedify swings and roundabouts, feel free to trust whoever you want but I'm sure if my own, independent, unbiased and unpaid tests :)
What do you mean the response time and input lag is bad? i thought 1 ms on extreme mode is the best ?
You mean the marketing? Sure, lol
@@TotallydubbedHD so it’s not actually 1ms ? is the input lag bad ?
@@HidEx1337 many wrong statements mentioned here.
