Bilk really had the most marvellous 'throaty' tone, almost iconic. I don't remember anyone having a tremolo tone quite like it.

Wonderful, takes me back to New Orleans about 20+ years ago, before President George Bush JUNIOR let the place ROT to Hell. Stranger on the Shore and Midnight in Moscow were my Father's favourites.
New Orleans one of the very few City locations I ever liked, JUST the French Quarter!

I saw Kenny the Other night, he was getting over a chest infection and although he started off very strongly he did go down hill towards the end, and did have to try again on the very last note. I'm so pleased he got it. Met him afterwards and he was a gentlemen.

Kenny was plagued with the chest infections after his recovery from a cancer in the early 2000's and the old phrase " The show must go on " could have been written for him. I remember us doing a one - off 3 B's concert in Chemnitz and his doctor advising him not to travel, but he did anyway because he didn't want to let the Promoter and audience down. It wasn't about the money for the gig, it was just the way he was.... I think it could have been his last concert.... a true showman ....

@mattcollier5957 Hello to you. Ackers, Brother Dave, was a neighbour of mine in Bristol. Unfortunately Dave, died a few years back he was eighty nine. Dave was Ackers, manager for many years, he would often reminisce
      concerning those days.
      Peace to all.

That old film footage of Acker shows how he had a resemblance to American actor Christopher Bale. Fantastic. We will miss Kenny but I see that Kenny's son (a singer) has joined up so that they can still do some shows as" Barber, Ball and Bilk".

Is this what generally happens to life alive then, and ignorant kids now try to show they appreciate the effort of then with 'whatever'?
"Kids now don't appreciate the effort and sacrifice that has helped to make things easier for them." This is almost a straight out quote from my grandfather, and it makes me sound like my parents.
Kids these days, the future is theirs, but WTF would they know during the moment of youth.
They don't even realise that they will soon be the old people one day.

"Strangers on the Shore" - I have a cousin in New Zealand who is a professional Jazz musician who plays it as part of his repertoire - I'm afraid he's given it the unfortunate title of "Strangled by a Whore" - sorry Acker.

No Syrup on Kenny Joe, or hair dye on top, although he did put a bit on his trademark moustache. I was his soundman for his last 13 years on the road so I know. His hair was a very dark grey. They did many Back to Back concerts together and 3 B gigs with Chris Barber... wonderful memories of them both..

People can wear what they want, not conform to a standard that has no merit other than made up, narrow minded fashion opinion. If a person is comfortable with what they wear and doesn't care what others feel is a free thinker. Those who deride another's choice of attire are anything but.
