Never forgotten by us.The long hot Summer of 76 we were planning our future together. My dear Wife and I still together in 2024 long warm eves this wonderful track was one of many forming a great musical backdrop.
Mr Acker Bilk - Aria 1976. I have been looking for this since 1987 after hearing it in a Hindi film. Today, after 36 years, my daughter helped me find it by asking me to hum the tune in her phone. I thank God for this blessing. Mr Acker Bilk was a genius.
My dad played clarinet. He passed away last year. He played in the Dublin Concert Band for many years. They all came to the funeral and played. This was what they played as we carried his coffin out of the church. I miss him so much
Simply beautiful. God rest the souls of all who have left us. And please remember to appreciate your loved ones while you still can. God bless you all.
Is the 10th anniversary of my Dad passing next week. Just listened to this and bawled my eyes out. Dad used to play the clarinet and this man was his hero. Him and Glen Miller. ❤
always bring a tear to my eye, beautiful piece of music, brings back memories of times gone by , forever grateful to Mr. Acker Bilk for this timeless melody
This is probably one of the most "emotional instrumentals" I have ever heard! When my time comes to depart this mortal world I would like this played............it is just absolutely STUNNING! Acker Bilk, what a musician; and Ruby Flipper the dancer's interpretation is just truly awesome!!
Too true! I played what was known as a "major recorder", only one in my area of England. It's harder than a normal recorder BUT, not as complicated as a clarinet!! As I soon found out! This is my favorite piece of clarinet music full stop!!
Goodnight Acker Bilk, great clarinettist, and influential to many! Cleanest Clarinet player ever, and incredible tonality... You have to be a musician to get it properly, but enjoy anyway
this was a year ago we played this at my dads funeral one of his favortite songs ever still makes me happy to hear it full volume as thats how dad loved it he was 86 when he passed away he chose strangers on the shore for when we brought him into the church and aria for half way through then louis armstrong wonderful world to leave us to october 30th 1year u left love u daddy and acker bilk.s music keeps us remembering u as we grew up with u blasting it around the house xx
So strange, for my dad we had Aria on the way in and Stranger On The Shore on the way out. and yes I think of him every day, even though its 14 years this year.
I feel your pain, I lost my mother 3 days ago and am looking for music for her funeral and she always loved Acker Bilk, listening to this brings back so much, it is so hard
Mr. Bilk had a unique way of playing the clarinet. As a "legit" clarinetist myself, it is nice to hear the instrument played with this kind of flexibility, and it is very expressive. He definitely had a way of touching the listener that few can come close to. And he wrote Stranger on the Shore, a helluva piece of music!
Such a moving and beautiful piece of music. Even more poignant now in light of the passing of this masterful artist. I will always love this. Many thanks.
I lost my Mum 9 years ago and we had this played at her funeral. I am a pro drummer and had the pleasure of playing drums in Mr Acker Bilk’s band he was a legend such a nice guy .
Certain pieces of music makes you reflect on life and question the wrong decisions made concerning love and past relationships. This is one - if only?????
This to also reminds me of my dad who I lost when I was 14 and now at 56 , I still have memories and our family all together just blows my mind every time I hear it makes me want to cry so much .The feelings and emotions when I hear Acker Bilk just so sublime amazing xxx
A wonderland piece of music. The other day they played this tune on the box. I had, as usual, fallen asleep and awake while it was being played. Straight away it brought back happy memories before I lost my husband
this reminds me of my mum & dad who are both dead now. I miss them and cry at this song as they played this when I was young memories can be so wonderful but heart breaking too. love you mum & dad till we meet again you're loving daughter xxxx
Thanks to my Dad when I was a boy (a long time ago) he took me and my Brother who were then just starting out on the clarinet and unbeknown to us He organised for us to meet him at Battersea in London when he performed in an open air concert, that was fifty years ago and I can still hear the clarity from that day to this, the man had a unique art for this instrument, also for those who may not know he had a partial amputated finger! Love this song.
it breaks my heart to know that I will never see you again my dear friend, may your pain be a distant memory, something you will never be, you and your wonderful legendary music will never fade, you will live on forever in mine and millions of other hearts. bless you and thank you for your music and your friendship, goodnight sweet man.
Trop peu de français connaissent cet homme qui pourtant surpasse de très haut nos meilleurs clarinettistes . Il faut l'écouter seul dans une pièce pour en savourer sa valeur .
Growing up in the 60s and 70s I never really appreciated just how very, very good Aker Bilk, Kenny Ball et al really were. Now I'm older I have gained a little wisdom and have realised that these were mucsians who will remain etched in peoples hearts and munds forever.

On this special day ...my love to all those I've lost ...but stay close in my mind and heart forever and always .This tune is.....simply ....beautiful.
I met him on a railway station when I was a kid on the way up to Scotland. 1962ish Carslisle? He gave me a signed photo. I remember being on a beach down the Gower in Wales listening to a transistor radio when this came on. I'm still on that beach. Then about 6 years ago I made a point of going to Brecon to see him play in the theatre. He was in a wheelchair but he was awesome. After he passed, it came out that I had seen the last performance he ever made. You couldn't make it up. Thanks Acker.
That is what ALL OF US CALLED MUSIC. I am 77, and the great music seems now...all behind us.
A terrific instrumental that was a massive UK Top 10 hit in 1976. Today it's all but forgotten, ignored by pop radio and even the oldies stations.
And that's really too bad, because it's timeless. I love it!
Not forgotten by me. I remember my brother in law playing it when i was very young. Brings tears of time lost
You need to Tune into Boom radio
Never forgotten by us.The long hot Summer of 76 we were planning our future together. My dear Wife and I still together in 2024 long warm eves this wonderful track was one of many forming a great musical backdrop.

Truly a genius. Anyone who has attempted to play this instrument will be in awe of this man. My favourite piece of music by far.

Great control of that clarinet, makes you wanna go buy one . If I could hit just one of those notes like aka I know I’d be hooked.
