A terrific instrumental that was a massive UK Top 10 hit in 1976. Today it's all but forgotten, ignored by pop radio and even the oldies stations.

Mr Acker Bilk - Aria 1976. I have been looking for this since 1987 after hearing it in a Hindi film.
Today, after 36 years, my daughter helped me find it by asking me to hum the tune in her phone.
I thank God for this blessing. Mr Acker Bilk was a genius.

My dad played clarinet. He passed away last year. He played in the Dublin Concert Band for many years. They all came to the funeral and played. This was what they played as we carried his coffin out of the church. I miss him so much

Mr. Bilk had a unique way of playing the clarinet. As a "legit" clarinetist myself, it is nice to hear the instrument played with this kind of flexibility, and it is very expressive. He definitely had a way of touching the listener that few can come close to. And he wrote Stranger on the Shore, a helluva piece of music!

Thanks to my Dad when I was a boy (a long time ago) he took me and my Brother who were then just starting out on the clarinet and unbeknown to us He organised for us to meet him at Battersea in London when he performed in an open air concert, that was fifty years ago and I can still hear the clarity from that day to this, the man had a unique art for this instrument, also for those who may not know he had a partial amputated finger! Love this song.

I met him on a railway station when I was a kid on the way up to Scotland. 1962ish Carslisle? He gave me a signed photo. I remember being on a beach down the Gower in Wales listening to a transistor radio when this came on. I'm still on that beach. Then about 6 years ago I made a point of going to Brecon to see him play in the theatre. He was in a wheelchair but he was awesome. After he passed, it came out that I had seen the last performance he ever made. You couldn't make it up. Thanks Acker.
