Hi, it's me, Onion (creator of the hack). I had a lot of fun modifying the graphics. Luckily, some of the horror movie (and pop culture) references were already present in the game, but they were more subtle to avoid copyright infringement 😅. Now I humbly believe it looks how people really imagined it.
I would have loved to do it, but hacking music on the Nintendo NES is a pain in the ass, because every company programmed their own sound engine from scratch. That forces you to do some laborious reverse engineering work to first understand how the music works in the game before modifying it, which is totally out of my skill set. Who knows. Maybe some fan of the franchise with those skills will discover the hack and be encouraged to add the missing ingredient.
@@Crying_Onion sorry , I think it was 2014\2015 I found a ton of movie music done in either 8 bit, snes or megadrive styles. Huge fan of evil dead, and I found this hack I patched long ago. Going to have some fun this weekend. "Hey deadites...let's rock".
That, what i call a good Evil Dead video game gameplay. WHY DOESN'T OFFICIAL VERSION FOR C64, HAIL TO THE KING FOR PS1 & FISTFULL OF BOOMSTICK LOOKS LIKE THAT?!
Ash fough Michael Jackson, Henrietta by the second time, xenomorphs, Freddy, the fly, jason and the book itsel. all that for brandy, he's a hell of a dad
I love the artwork for your video covers, do you draw them yourself? I did layout some official cover art for those who use game launchers (I usually use my NES Mini), but it would be cool to see a design of yours. On the other hand, I'm glad you like my hack, have you been able to find all the cameos and easter eggs I put in it?
@@Crying_Onion Maybe Journey to Silius or Batman, maybe still using Ultra Magnus or Rodimus. Oh, and if you need stand-ins for whatever, I don't mind finding perfect bosses to use.
@@aweirdredtoad3637 You know? I think it could work! Right now I'm in a complicated situation that has slowed down both my video uploads and my projects in development, but I'm down with the idea because I think we all deserve at least one good Transformers game on this console 🎮👾
@@Crying_Onion Yeah, I understand fully. I don't mind helping with the character design for it, since I'm an cartoonist so maybe it could be abit easier than doing it from a 3d reference.
@@lorenmorgan1931 Parallax on NES is achieved with an instruction in the code that allows you to fix x lines of the screen, usually to prevent the HUD from moving along with the rest of the background. Only a few knew how to take advantage of that trick, which shows the skill of the guys behind this title. Another cool trick in this game (using a support chip) is that the color palettes can be changed in real time, which adds variety in the enemies.
@@Crying_Onion I have been reading a lot lately on how they do that. Would have been interesting to see Mario 3 with Parallax. EIther way it make this game seem almost 16bit like, and I guess one of the reason Ninja Gaiden 2 always stuck out in my head.
@@lorenmorgan1931 Totally agree: NG2 and its stage 2-1 is also the 1st example that comed to my mind when I think of parallax and NES. Another example that looks like witchcraft is Return of the Joker. Especially in the shmup style level, where everything looks so big and moves so fast and smooth as silk on the screen that it could perfectly be an arcade game.
@@Crying_Onion I am watching that game now, its amazing looking for an NES game. Sunsoft really were the kings of the NES in graphics and sound! If it werent for the flickering (i know they had to do this to sprite bank switch) it would look 16bit.
I was never interested in the original game, but an Evil Dead skin with more iconic horror cameos did exactly the trick to get me interested.
Adding Michael Jackson in the evident Thriller parody was a great touch.

@@Crying_Onion exactly! You made it look as originally intended and it's awsome. Also, the cartoony 8bit rendition of Bruce Campbell is ispot on. 😂
@@baifomet6425 To be honest, for Groovy Bruce I used as base a sprite from another NES game: The Adventures of Rad Gravity 😅
@@Crying_Onion LOL that sprite sure was inspired by Brucie.
This is so rad, even got that beautiful Bruce campbell chin heheh
This is what happens when you don't *Hail to the MF'ing KING!!*
Evil Dead X Splatterhouse (the SD NES one)....it actually does work surprisingly well!!!
Interesting at 11:29--a cross inside the Star of David! :P
Cool vid. I'll have to try it. Thanks for sharing
A Xmas Splatterhouse Roomhack will be funny..xD
This is so good
Yeah, it's pretty creative. I'm a little disappointed that the boss of stage V wasn't wielding a cat brush, though.
Wow that's really nice!
Ficou da hora essa hack adoro splatterhouse
Yooooo Nice
30 seconds in and I love it
20:44 ¿Why choose the BAD END route?.
The enemies are so BIG they make Ash look like a midget xD
"The important thing is not the size, but how it is handled, baby" -Groovy Ash 🤣
Groovy
I love it so far
Very underrated game. Could of used the 8bit music of the evil dead score.

Show!😉😉
But why Jacksonville 🤔🤣
Michael Jackson instead of the Dracula parody was a nice touch.
Also nes Jason and Freddy.
Does the hack includes the secret stages altered?
The secret levels are practically identical, but some color palettes have been changed to maintain the dark tone of other levels.
Просто 🔥🔥🔥👾👾👾🔥🔥🔥
Up!
Yes

She's suposse to be Ripley... 😅
Does there exist a physical copy of this?

Gostei
E também zerei o jogo original
I think there's another one of these but it's Zelda 2

It's a hack of an obscure installment in the Splatter House franchise released in Japan on the Famicom, called Wanpaku Graffiti.
@@Crying_Onion ok thanks
Cool hack, but i expected hack like this for 16 bit version of Splatterhouse. But yeah, it looks cool. All tho i don't like NES version of the game.
Im not sure that I have ever seen it, but this has some pretty awesome features for an NES game, or even mod, like that multilevel Parallax scrolling!
