    Some of my family was in that stuck on I-10 over 8hrs.Leaving Arizona. Most parts of Texas do not get that amount of snow. Most times no GPS. Thank God we were able to get them a room in Fort Stockton, once they started moving. I'm grateful they made it back to Killeen. Thank you God for watching over my family.

    This is west Texas about half way between San Antonio and El Paso. The elevation is around 3000 ft. above sea level and a desert climate. This area of Texas sees very cold air during the Winter but it doesn't last long. It usually warm back up in a few days. But it is not unusual to see snow and ice in this area, but heavy snow is pretty uncommon because it is a desert climate (very little precipitation). Texas is a huge state and east Texas is nothing like west Texas and south Texas is nothing like the Texas Panhandle. The Texas Panhandle is famous for white out Blizzards in the Winter, but this snow is further south (south of the Midland Odessa area).

      Nor will the states fund the proper equipment. Out of 15 Texas highway districts only one has a fleet of snow plows in the panhandle around Amarillo to keep I-40 open... Been that way for decades and will be that way forever...

      Out of 15 Texas highway districts, only one has a fleet of snow plows. In the panhandle near Amarillo to keep I-40 clear... This ice and snow will melt away in a day or two... Best to hold up in a roadside motel or hotel... Even for a truck driver, you will drive all day to maybe go 50 miles. Something you can do easily in less than a hour after the road clears... While Texas does get winter weather, in most of Texas it is for a few days, not a few weeks or like in Canada a few months...

    • @ronclark9724
      @ronclark9724 3 года назад +4

      This is a grader acting as a snow plow. Out of 15 Texas highway districts, only one has a fleet of snow plows prepared for ice and snow. The panhandle area around Amarillo along I-40. While Texas does get snow and ice, usually it melts away in a day or two. Nor does Texas lay salt on their highways, just sand. I have seen RUclips videos of Canada laying so much salt on their highways, their gray asphalt is white. And most auto parts stores in Texas believe it or not do NOT sell chains. It is simply wiser and cheaper just to spend a day or two at a roadside motel or hotel in Texas and wait for the roads to clear. Why spend all day driving at 5 MPH, if that, to go 50 miles when you can do that easily in less than a hour after the road clears.

      @Rocket Man This is west Texas and a completely different climate than Houston. There is nothing "tropical" about west Texas in the Winter. It gets extremely cold many times during the Winter and they almost always see some snow each Winter (but freezing rain is more common). It's unusual to see heavy snow, because its the desert and they see very little precipitation. Houston on the other hand gets a lot of rain and is nothing like a desert climate. It also gets pretty cold at least several times each Winter in Houston (by cold I mean lows in the 20s with highs in the 40s or so). It even snows in Houston occasionally.

    Haha...odd thing is, I’m in Northern Ontario Canada, our little bit of snow has been melting for a week, give it another day or two we won’t have any left...poor Mother Nature is so messed up...BUT, weather like this...we Canadians STAY HOME where it’s safe and warm, but even so, our Canadian roads are equipped with ploughs, salt and sand trucks. I used to live in Texas, one New Year’s Eve we had an ice storm and wanted to go spend New Years in Mesquite with friends (had I known there were no salt, sand or plough trucks in Texas, I would have stayed home) we ended up driving 30 minutes and only made it 2 miles out of Fort Worth, I was shocked to see how many cars drove like any normal day, cars flying everywhere off the interstates into the ditches, we hadn’t even made it to the mix masters yet when I told Steve (RIP) to turn around, as we were pulling off ramp, we saw one young girl hit the guard rails, spun around and then continued to drive, she sped up and went on her way, it was mayhem..lol...so we get home, turn on the news...the broadcaster was downtown filming the snow on the streets (oh yeah it made big news) they filmed one hotel where someone who yelled out the window, “we are from Canada touring Texas, but watching the news and all the accidents is more entertaining”, the news room cracked up laughing at that one. Common sense ppl, STAY HOME...the state of Texas or the southern states are not equipped to handle that much snow, your government needs to pull up their big boy shorts and invest in these equipments because our temps will continue to change, summers are getting hotter and places are getting tons of snow that has NEVER had snow

      It's not worth the money to have expensive snow plows sitting in storage and having to keep them maintained from anywhere from a year to 5 years and when we do get snow it's usually an inch or two. This snowfall and the one after it were flukes. My city saw about 18 inches which is practically unheard of. The most we ever see is usually 6 inches.

    It snows in Minnesota and everyone is like yay and drives in all the lanes..

      Plus Minnesota lays salt on the roads, has a large fleet of snow plows, and their auto stores sell snow tires and chains... None of which happens in Texas where winter lasts a few days, not a few months... Up until today most Texans are still wearing shorts. While you will still have freezing days and nights in May, in Texas we will be sweating beads in 90 degrees heat...

    • @singmysong1167
      @singmysong1167 3 года назад

      Yeah, I was told that we have oil-based roads to prevent cracking from the summer heat, so yeah, the roads can be extremely slippery when they get wet, alot of hydro-planing and such too, if you are not careful.

    Texas don't have snow plows

    • @greenidguy9292
      @greenidguy9292 3 года назад +1

      Because snow plows can plow more than snow, for instance trees that have fallen due to s storm, or brush blocking a roadway, there are more uses and being dump truck mounted they can get to more areas quicker than a trailered piece of equipment.
      There are lots of things to be learned from the folks up here where it REALLY snows.
