Yup. Kansas girl here living in New Brunswick.. Everyone drives 4x4s or at least FWDs, and need studded tires. Not too hard getting around until snowfall is over 6 inches.
And see, I'm here in Michigan, thinking of moving near Wichita and just keep hearing "how bad the winters are in Kansas!" No, they're not. We got nearly 60 cumulative inches here in SW Michigan this winter. From everything I see, it's barely winter at all there! :) I've never once used these things called "snow tires" in the 50+ years I've lived here.
My brother and his six freinds would carry his to school then home. Idiots but it had to go to school. No i had a Ford fair lane dependable car if I was not driving in snow
Man, I had 8 inches on Wednesday and didn't think anything of it. Getting 4-6 right now and I think I'm glad it's not a lot today. I need to move somewhere warmer than Wisconsin.
So here is one who had 8 inches but his girlfriend had her doubts So she measured it in centimeters and now she thinks he's got more than meets the eye
Around 10 a.m., everything was fine here in southeastern Iowa. There was snow on the ground and roofs from the other day, but streets were clear, life was good. A couple of hours later I look out the window and it is snowing like crazy; near white out conditions. Glad I'm in the house.
With winter tires (Michelin x-ice and Blizzack ws-90), a Limited-slip differential, and some sandbags in the back you should be have no problems through the winter if its your only vehicle.
Because we rarely get that much snow. We normally get a dusting, or maybe an inch or snow. Plus, people old enough to experience deep snow here, like me, have learned long ago how to drive in this. Those inexperienced ones drive full speed like the roads are dry. No common sense.
We hardly get this much snow anymore. Last time I remember having this much snow was when I was about 20. Most of the drivers here get ether impatient, cocky or aggressive with other drivers taking their time to drive properly on snow. We always end up having a ton of collisions and runoffs because of these idiots who have no concept of what traction is. That and the people with AWD or 4X4's think that having all 4 tire spinning will help them stop normally and will drive even faster than what they usually would when the ground is dry. I don't know how many times I've had a truck drive by me on US 54 going 80 while I'm going 50 with my FWD Fusion having no problems driving just to see them in a ditch, spun out or slammed against a concrete barrier. I always get a good chuckle out of that as long as no one got hurt.
I can confirm this as fact. I comute every day on 400/Kellogg 40 miles. I've lived hear most my life and I'm just dumbfounded by all the idiots driving around hear.
I swear if it isn't someone whipping in and out of traffic nearly clipping people, it's people going as slow as they legally can, straddling the line instead of getting completely over. And so many people seem incapable of using their signal when getting over (almost got clipped by someone going painfully slow who decided to change lanes at the last second without signalling. I'm surprised my wheels didn't screech when I hit the breaks).
I don't know I've lived in Texas as well. I'd say it's pretty close match between the two. I can tell you one of the best investments you can make that doesn't cost a lot of money is to put a camera in your car that's what I did I run it every time I'm driving that thing is recording. .
yeah ... the end of the world ended in 2020 for about 350,000 'mericans thanks to DICKtator-don --- more deaths than most US wars combined since 1776 , and he accomplished it in less than one year .. simply be doing nothing

Just to put it into perspective, the annual average snow for Wichita is 13”. This is almost half of that in one day.
I live in Wichita. Spent the entire afternoon shoveling out my place and two of my elderly neighbors.
Yeehaw!! Happy New Year
I live here too. Snowstorms have become a rarity but I don't miss the shoveling. Happy New Year!
Did you use a spoon it to me 30 min to do 1 acre
There are still piles of snow melting I had to walk to work that morning it sucked so hard
I have yet to see a snow video that didn't have a Mustang stranded.
Yeah the people with challenges know not to go out in this condition , wait to the streets are clear!

If he had some kind of snow chain that fitted his vehicle he could of backed that out ..taken them off and been on his merry way ?

First mistake driving a Mustang in the snow. They are 6 month of the year cars......

I didn't realize it was record breaking.
OMG, grew up in Wichita. Never saw snow, other than scant dusting a few days during the entire winter. Good luck with that.
Most of the roads will be fine long before the end of today. Sun's out and the plow trucks will make quick work of the interstates.
