I bought my first MK5 GTI in 2018 at 55K miles and still own it to this day it runs as smooth as to when i first bought her mileage doesnt make a difference on these cars if im being honest as long as they have been maintained on that note they are great fun cars but do require a lot of maintenance im pushing stage 1 and its one of the best cars ive owned the greatest GTI made such strong engines and have so much tuning capabilities and i owned a golf R but sold it after owning i always come back to my gti and can never sell it as i love it too much the car has too much character everybody needs to drive and own a gti and drive it to its full limits to understand how amazing these cars are also they come standard with adaptive suspension which make soo great at handling wise perfect cars will see a lot of stock gtis on tracks nowadays aswell but yh lovely car loads of fun little toy and great video ricky please do make more MK5 GTI content would love to see more also ricky you should invest in a MK5 GTI and take it stage 3 R-TECH best for GTIs you would have fun building a project car

I did a 12.39@115 in a stock turbo ed30 (not a gti) but basically the same with all those mods 370hp. Then I did a 12.0@121 in a stock engine dsg ed30 at 435hp with road tyres with a tte480
I've got access to a track spec ed30 with 458bhp 452ft-lbs on TTE480+ hybrid, running AR-1 semi slicks, wonder if that would dip into the 11's at santa pod
@@rs8psamo193 it’s got the power it’s all down to grip I did a 2.2 60ft when I did my 12.0 @121, I had a golf R at 480 hp and that was doing 1.7 60fts so a full 0.5s faster off the bat. If you can get a decent 60ft then it will go 11s, I did 12.0 3 times and gave up in the end lol, it made 455hp in the end but just span more
@@jordanlegard3764 Ahh nice to hear, yeah that's what I'm worried about, the 60ft. Last I tested a launch i had to abort as it was was worse than just planting your foot and setting off. Even with the semi slicks 1st and 2nd gears are redundant, sometimes 3rd too lol. More power don't always equate to faster time 1/4 mile times in FWD, but on track though it comes into its own
MK5 GTIs are great cars had mine 3 years if you look after them they’re great and they do everything well, bargain for the price and will appreciate I think,
Will give the video a proper watch later but I was looking at these back in December or so of last year mainly just to keep stock to be honest or very lightly modify. R32 / ED30 rear lights and painted rear bumper can really transform the look. I like the plate that this guy's got, I bought a similar sort of plate a few years back too before they all got bought up which I'm happy for. Trying to find one of these with lower mileage that has had all water pump and cambelt done at the right intervals and also ideally having the highline trip computer is a bit of a challenge. I was also looking for manual lol
@@jn5433 idk I was looking up to 6 or 7k on a mk5 gti but wasn't really sure how much funds I had available to spend. Ended up getting something more lowkey and newer for safety and building some experience first

Love these MK5s the most but they're ether 3-5k with like 110k miles or like 8k+ with like 40k miles, feel like I'd be spending more money fixing it than its actually worth.

It’s true, I recently got rid of my Cupra for a MK5 GTI and I love the car but in roughly the month I’ve owned it I have spent coming up to 3K alone in maintenance and repairs.

Thought something German was more “grown up” and “sensible” according to the misses. She wasn’t a fan of going anywhere in “the fun weekend car” 😂😂 What did you end up buying / plan on buying?

It seems with the mk5 gti it’s a sea of abused and not cared for (lack of intensive service history) and broken dsg boxes due to servicing not being done. The other faults with the platform are just like any other common faults but the poor servicing seems to take the life out of these mk5 gti’s.
I considered getting one or a regular MK5 GTI more likely so as my next car but gone for something a bit more boring first as I haven't driven for a few years and don't need people racing me
What times re you running 100-200 mate? That 1/4 mile is sick mate, I did 12.7 on an unprepared strip with street tires but with 116mph exit on my Scirocco R
I run 8.2 in a 380hp fiesta (100-200), I would think he would be near enough same times as he’s got the advantage of an auto gearbox so would make up for the extra weight.
Got access to an ed30 on AR1s with 458bhp track setup, might have to let you see what you think of it then, with full geo setup and corner weighting plus a quaife diff 👍

Risky with the stock connecting rods. Those usually hold up to about 350bhp. A well known tuner from the netherlands JDengineering had a mk5 gti with 375bhp and 465nm torqur and those connecting rods where bend after a few months.

It was Car off the year on top gear and fifth gear we all know Jeremy Clarkson, don’t like many cars never mind loving the mk5 even Chris Harris mentioned it the other day when comparing it to the new Honda Civic 2023 type R he said he loved the car it’s like driving a really fast mk golf gti even today it’s getting a mention Nice video Ricky you look a little scared in the passenger seat lol the cars is a beast one off the reason l have kept my GTi nearly sold mine a few times when it’s giving me a headache. Just be careful when purchasing get it fully checked.. try and get a service history👍🏽👊🏽

Took me months to find mine but 62k miles, full spec, manual 2 door completely stock and I love it. But I agree the rear lets it down

Iv been looking at doing a rear seat delete in my mk7.5 golf r. It’s crazy the difference of how easy it is to make power from the mk5 to mk7.5

Had the DSG 7R, amazing car but just too perfect. Sold it and kept my manual 2009 Revo Stage 2 MKV. Not as fast or composed, but tons more fun.

380bhp sounds about right you could push the water meth to get over 400bhp.. if you had E85 you could really stretch this out.
