BIG Problem With DJI Ronin S and GH5

DJI Ronin S and GH5 camera setup seems to have a HUGE PROBLEM! I noticed while connecting the cable for the ronin into the USB-C port on the GH5 while also connecting the HDMI cable to the external monitor makes the back LCD screen of the GH5 turn off! It's hard to believe that this video was published over two years ago and Panasonic still has yet to provide a solution.

@@GillyGill when I first got my Ronin the LCD screen worked fine everything was great. It blows my mind that such an issue can be created and never fixed
@@GillyGill I honestly thought I was crazy that my screen was working before but thank God you confirmed it in the video.I thought I was losing my mind Like I swear I used to be able to use my camera screen while it was connected to the Ronin.... Lol

Hollyland Mars 400, Weebil Lab with GH5 and camera control cable giving the same issue. Scouring the internet for answers but none found yet.
Reason is that the GH5 only has two video channels. LCD as a third channel in this situation is beyond technical capabilities of the camera!
feb-2020 and I still have this problem with my GH5 + Ronin-SC + Ninja V
So it has been 7 weeks since this was originally posted. Has the situation or problem been resolved either by Panasonic or DJI? Would rolling back Panasonic's firmware updates to the previous one solve this?

This is the exact issue that I am having... I'm just using the Ronan though I don't have a monitor although I can use my cell phone but I'm losing out on a lot of functionality and settings on the GH5
Man I was so hoping you had the solution while I was watching. I have the same problem with my Sony A7iii, I'm thinking I may have to use the micro usb port not the usb c port.
Bro you are the man for this video. I was trying to figure out the problem and you just answered it. I paid for multiple hdmi cables hoping it solved the problem. Unfortunately it was a dead end so I use the ronin without the plug
It's a shame that this problem exists... But to my knowledge it still hasn't been resolved

what HDMI cable are you using for the Atomos? i dig how flexible it is. does it support the 10bit 4k60 (2.0)?
So it’s November 2020 and there is still no solution to this.... also the new DJI RS2 Raveneye transmitter requires both the HDMI and USB-C ports too...

I know this is an old video but I have a GH5 and the Ronin SC-2 and recently got the Raven Eye and I'm having trouble with getting video connection to my phone. Has anyone found a solution for this?

Hi ! Got the weebill s atomos and GH5 exact same problem .... that come from the GH5
It's now almost May 2020 and the issue is still there (on the ronin SC)!! Luckily I'm using the follow focus so I can still use a monitor and just not connect the Ronin to the GH5 thru the type C. I can live with that but am bummed about not being able to use a monitor with my native glass...
I wrote a comment about this issue under a video from Lumix, on RUclips, what I got is that they blocked comments to that video! :D
Still waiting for this fix! Also the fact you can’t use the focus wheel when shooting in variable frame rates.
Might make a follow up to this, the problem isn’t fixed but I’ve made major changes to my ronin setup because of it

If you buy both from the same store, and the store recommends the combination, you can then put it back on the store.
I had a case in Australia in the 80s where a retailer recommended third party products for my computer, that retailer came to grief when the combination did not work.
In that case, I was the plaintiff.

Hi Gill, did you solve the problem? If I would be forced to buy a focus motor i would definitely buy the tilta nucleus nano instead of the dji. So i'm also free to use it with any other camera, in any other situation not on the gimbal. Do you agree?
Also, could you tell me which lens you use in this video, that supports the focus wheel?
I died read there are a few lenses support this feature.
Hi I just purchased a Ronin S second hand and thought a cable for my Gh5 wouldn't be a problem but it seems that possibly because of the problems you have kindly highlighted they have bought up all supplies and caused the mcc type c cable to become unavailable hence forcing people to buy the new rs gimbal, This is really naughty and I hope people look elsewhere for a Gimbal .Hard to believe but this is true.
Does this still apply after all the firmware updates?
So I had an even worse problem. I updated all the firmware on the GH5 and the Ronin-S and now the focus wheel will not work even with out any external monitors attached which really sucks. I suspect the latest Panasonic update might be the culprit but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to roll back to a previous version of the camera firmware. If I look on the DJI's Compatibility List pdf , it says that the Ronin S works with GH5: v2.2 /GH5s: v1.1 The latest GH5 update I installed is 2.5 so I might have screwed myself. I'll call DJI in the morning to see if there is a fix but this is not good at all. Be careful. Let me know if you guys find any work arounds.
Oh. No! This is disappointing for real! Tbh I have found the focus wheel to be wildly unresponsive to begin with, too laggy. I’d like to get a hold of the separate focus wheel with the physical motor to see if that’s a better experience
@@GillyGill For a gimbal, I think a better solution for me would be able to replicate the toggle and AE/Lock button somehow. I use the toggle to move the focus area and the AE/lock button in man focus to change focus.

Which cable do I need to connect to my GH5? I got the ronin S essential and it didn’t come with it?
Looks it was fixed today but only for GH5II
Even with the new dji transmission happen the same if you are using the ronin... still with the problem
Actually I’m facing the EXACT same from with my sony camera. The only thing we have in common is we are both using a ronin. It is EXACTLY the SAME problem. Anyways lemme know if you gotta fix 🙌🏼
I now use the RS2 with a Sony A7S3 so I’m unaware if this issue persists, but I still have the ronin S so I’ll see if I can recreate this issue on that camera.

This issue is fucking with me hard, just bought an RS2 and thinking of returning it because of this...
After more thought, I’ve actually decided to return the Atomos ninja. This gimbal has a lot of great features, and while I don’t see myself using Raveneye, I do love being able to quickly punch focus with the record button among other things. Down the line I will update my GH5, BUT I can get away with 4K 4:2:2 30p IN THE MEANTIME.

well do you really need a field monitor which has almost the same size as the monitor of the camera?
It's not for the screen size, it's for it's external recording capabilities, it let's you use the full potential of the gh5, higher bitrate, etc. Things that you can't do internally.

Hi Gilly, is it still like this that the GH5S LCD turns black when the Ninja V is connected to it and on the Ronin S? or did you find a workaround with firmwares? I have my GH5S but not yet the gimbal and the Ninja V.

Well, even if it did, Panasonic might just knock it out with the next gh5II or GH6 firmware update...it used to work and then they screwed it, and they could never be bothered fixing it.
But is it possible to hook up external monitor via usb output on GH5?
I don’t think so.. best work around I’ve found is to use a mechanical wireless follow focus but still you lose the functionality of the record button on the handle... which works ok but still have to press record on the camera which is inconvenient
The worst part is that you can't see when you're recording or not without the camera monitor

I recently updated the firmware on both the GH5 and the Ronin S but have not checked again for this issue. I am doing an update video soon and will include that issue if it's been resolved or not

A new GH5/GH5S firmware is coming, but nothing is going to fix this issue, man. I think there nothing that we can hope to use usb and hdmi together -_-
MCFilms I think you’re right. I’m worried to update firmware because I have the V-log profile (paid extra) but somehow lost the key for it lol I believe updating would wipe that log profile away 🤕
@@GillyGill You don't need to update because the firmware doesn't give anything important (especially for GH5) and in particular doesn't fix the HDMI/USB issue. Fuck**g Panasonic!!!

worked for me on my monitor under 2.6 firmware .... was able to focus and hit record and view my monitor over tether

DJI screwing things up with firmware updates? Again.
See I’m not sure if it’s actually any part of DJI that’s the problem.. I learned that Panasonic limits the video output to 2 and the lcd screen counts as 1. It also registers that usb-c connection for the ronin s as a video source for some reason when clearly it’s not. That’s why the black screen occurs when we plug in the monitor

No Game Is Safe Productions you need the camera lcd display to be able to see and change camera settings.

I really like to use manual focus but be able to tap the screen to set the focus. Can't do this without the camera screen. Not sure why Panasonic refuses to fix it when it used to work on a past firmware version.
Just don’t buy the DJI Ronin, I guess. What’s the point?
